It's not good but I was expecting worse.

The one to Vlad is pathetically far away.

Also, the reason the run skew isn't worse is because they were almost all strike 2s instead of 3, meaning that they didn't end the atbat but forced the hitter to be ready to swing at a ball.

Isn't he a total head case? Imagine that's why the Indians were quick to wash their hands of him.

Broke Covid protocol to go out with friends in 2020 and has twice broken a bone reacting in anger (once while aggressively removing his jersey, according to the team, and the other time far more publicly when he punched the mound after giving up a HR).

There's also the part where he's absolutely awful and has been for his whole career outside of that 55 inning debut in 2020. He limits walks and... that's it. He has one of the lowest strikeout rates in the league, allows too many HR, and gets hit HARD all the time.

I guess maybe if you want someone to replace Drew Hutchison in Buffalo for the rest of the year or something and don't need to give him a 40-man spot? But no, not interested... he really, really sucks.

That was my first thought too.
At least White has a bit of an "unknown quantity" allure to him.

The Jays starting depth is atrocious and needs to be improved. Did have an impact with White and Tiedemann being injured but white has been awful. The AAA starters are struggling down there.

The Moreno trade is starting to look really poor. Paid the highest premium for a guy who is basically all defense only.

Picked a weird time to bring it up for the bazillionth time after he just had a good series offensively.
I haven’t really brought it up that much.

Atkins really needs to connect on some of his moves. He’s been too content with being a mid team, and then when he finally makes a risky move it’s seemingly the wrong one.

But it’s been beaten to death to start the year. We get it trade looks bad yada yada yada, but the argument seems to always come down to Gurriel because of his hot start. Hard to evaluate the one for one for Moreno when he’s performing basically at the same level as Varsho.

I mean Gurriel was part of the premium paid. Atkins threw assets at the Diamondbacks for arguably their most expendable outfielder.

Gurriel is in the last year of his contract and Atkins did him right by not holding onto him and letting him ride the bench.

I’ve mentioned this before but the transition from other divisions to the AL East is a big one. Chapman struggled early on too. Varsho has been making great strides and recently had a long streak without striking out, much to no avail in terms of offensive production.

Despite that I still see his BIPs AB by AB and notice how often he gets BABIP’d. His xStats also suggest he’s been unlucky to start the year.

Once again, people for some reason expected Varsho to hit like 50 home runs and I don't get why.

They don't need him to be an all-star caliber hitter to win the trade. Get above 100 wRC+ and with the defense he's more than valuable enough to justify it.

Hell he's put up 1.1 WAR already despite basically going ice cold all of May. Once that bat gets to a normal level he suddenly is worth his weight in gold.
