As a Calgarian Jets fan, I'm pretty surprised by the amount of fellow Calgarians who also think this play was really shitty. Overcoming hometown bias isn't easy, you guys are alright.

Damn there must be a lot of built up frustration on that team. Already the 2nd absolutely gutless play by them this season and we're only 10 games in.

Just like the Andersson one, I think this should be 7-10 games because there's literally no "hockey play" here just a pure attempt to injure another man, but NHL are cowards and will do the standard 2-3 games.

What on earth is that? He is already down and then you smash his face off the ice or attempt to at the very least. Needs to be 5-10.

No one wants hitting out of the game.

When people say they want crap out of the game, this is exactly what they mean.

This stuff should be suspendable because it adds nothing and just enables bad actors. This stuff leads to injuries and the other team retaliating.

Hockey has to clean up this crap for the upteenth time. Until a player is suspended for a significant amount of games this nonsense is just going to continue. I give him 10 games to send the message that any defenseless player can't be attacked in that manner. I also want the rules changed that the team suffers not only a loss of a player but a roster spot as well. Calgary plays with 19 players until the suspension ends.

They might as well remove cross checking opponents in the back of the head while they’re laying on the ice.

Quit calling match penalties and suspension for plays like this. It’s hockey, it’s the NHL, and the NHL has a built in mechanism to remedy these types of plays. Use it.

Wholeheartedly agree.

It will always be tricky to police hits appropriately because it's a legal hockey play that happens fast and can go bad so many ways. But plays like this aren't in any way a hockey play. It's pure intent to inflict pain/injure and should be punished harshly.

So naturally the DoPS in its infinite wisdom only suspends for one game.

I mean, it's good that he received a suspension but man, they let these go like 50 times per match. Call all cross checks rather than selectively punishing only those that cause an injury.

McAvoy's shoulder rode up on OEL and they gave him 4 games. Chuck Mangione over here tries to literally break a man's neck and the league is fine with 1?
