To work in.. media?

Not trying to be a dick, I just don't understand the connection to this thread.
Let’s not sugarcoat it, we’ve been taken for a ride.

Outsmarted by a covert operative from the epicenter of Toronto’s media landscape. A man who doesn’t just spread news, but orchestrates the Leafs’ propaganda.

So don’t worry about feeling like the dick, my friend

Ploy for attention?
Or just a negative expectation of the current group, wether warranted or not.

That's good.

I just notice a lot of mob mentality on the Canucks boards these days. Eventually it starts to annoy me and I have to type something.
Yeah.

There are a handful of posters that everyone else parrots.

The negative reaction to overage draft picks on this board might be the dumbest thing that happens here, and that's saying something.
It'd probably be less if these guys were coming out of the Canadian major junior leagues, but those tend to be scouted pretty heavily. The two best examples of overagers I can think of are Pearson and Perron, who ended up going in the 1st round in their D+1 year, and people here were hoping for Perron back then instead of Patrick White (barf).

Weegar, Mangiapane, Martinook, Palat.

Hit rates are substantially higher for overage players in the mid-late rounds than first-time eligibles but 11 years ago we took an overage guy who was bad so these picks are dumb and bad forever.

When can a junior eligible player actually become an unrestricted free agent do they have to be passed over three times in a draft?

Immediately. Guys who have been passed over 3 times are UFAs permanently and guys who have been passed over once or twice are UFAs until the start of next season (I can't remember if it's September 15 or October 1) before going back in next year's pool.

I would be looking at giving an ELC to Djibril Toure, incidentally.

Ahhh.. that clears that up for me the window until the season starts

So in theory you have an 18 year old passed over.. he can technically be signed until the season starts?

Yup - Philippe Myers born 1997 signed September 21 2015 after being passed over in the 2015 draft is an example.

Evan McEneny born 1994 signed September 14 2012 after being passed over in 2012 is an in-house example.

We could sign a Mazden Leslie right now if we wanted to, as a current example.

Ok then.. thank you. Myers yeah remembering that one now .. he was touted as getting a free first rounder i remember

At least people aren’t trying to re-define words and do mental gymnastics because they think they are married to their beliefs/opinions and unable to ever change. The bad faith disagreements seem to have mostly gone away after doofus was shitcanned.
I think the terms retool & rebuild have been re-defined in endless semantic debates here now...

Honestly think we should rebuild but on the back end at least, there has been major surgery.

Benning's last season
Hughes-Poolman
OEL-Myers
Hunt-Schenn
Burroughs

Today
Hughes-Cole
Soucy-Hronek
Wolanin-Myers
Hirose

just swapping players out isn't really surgery imo

i need to see them rebuild the defense so that it's an actual effective unit. i guess hronek is a start but i'm not sold on him being a significant improvement on ethan bear or luke schenn

cole is just a placeholder and soucy is a nice bottom end guy but again not a big difference over who the canucks have had their before
