I liked Bruce a lot, and think he is a pretty good coach, but there is no question he may not have been THE problem, but he was A Problem. He also wasn't their coach and should have been fired or let go in the offseason.

Wait are you doing calendar year and not nhl season years? Who the f*** does that?

Yes for the following season we should be a playoff team.
23-24 aka this coming season
- get rid of Pearson, Beau, Myers at TDL and use asset to add a good piece that we extend
24-25
- hopefully get rid of Garland+Boeser for actual assets and use to add one more piece
25-26
hopefully Willander/Lekkerimaki comes in and you start to trade 1st rounder for another piece

Also Demko will probably not finish his contract with us. Don’t think he’s the same core as Hughes and Petey.

LOL well OK, I added the previous year now to the post. The point hasn't changed.

Your scenario, we are actual SC contenders in 2027-2028. Now even serious contenders take 3-4 years to actually be SC winners so now that pushes a cup into 2030-2031.

A lot of hope in your scenarios. And now you're advocating trading Demko...how are you going to maintain the playoff streak without him??

You are wild.
Wild eh, is Carolina wild then for healthy scratching him because he wasn't good enough to be on their roster... But he was good on the Canucks roster in your eyes... On a weak D team. Seems like fans really over evaluate players here.

Or maybe they just buy into everything management sells them...

Hmm how did this team do that with Hronek, I guess the spot was just open with him injured how did they even manage....

If he was that good, I wouldn't let him walk.

You thought Bear played good last year... Interesting.
Chuck, i didn’t offer an opinion on Bears play

I am once again petitioning that we should trade for Andrew Peeke. CBJ has so many right side defenceman (and many more to come who are prospectss) he’s clearly the odd man out. And he’s fit our needs perfectly. He’s big, physical, defensively sound, young, and plays big minutes.

Hughes-Peeke
Soucy-Hronek
Wolanin-Cole

They had the perfect opportunity to tank last year, but instead they wanted to compete, but people believe they're not contending lol okay.
What does this mean? People believe they aren’t contending? They are a bubble team. I don’t think anyone believes they are a contender

In 2025/26, this team is going to be paying Pettersson, Miller, Kuzmenko (assuming he is re-signed), Mikheyev, Hughes, Hronek (assuming a long-term deal), Soucy, Demko, and OEL (assuming they ditch Garland) close to $60 million. They will need to fill 15 roster spots for ~$30-35 million, including 8-10 important spots where they need quality players.

Between Podkolzin, Hogland, Raty, EP2, Lekkerimaki they might have one or two more quality NHLers? Willander might make the team by then but is probably not going to be a difference maker. That's still a lot of holes to fill and not much money to fill them. And that assumes Miller doesn't regress, everyone else carries on without injuries, etc. - basically a best case scenario for how things unfold.

Filling out that team is likely going to be a much bigger mess than what they are facing today.

I'd probably swap Soucy and Cole but yeah, Peeke would be a great add. Younger and signed for a few more years and like Gavrikov would potentially look much better once out of Columbus.

The above actually looks like a decent defense. Not Stanley Cup Champion calibre or anything but certainly a vast improvement over the past decade lol.

It's okay to believe what you're being sold all the time, but you'd think after a few years of the same crap people would learn, but oh well.

What exactly do you think people are being sold? Like, please lay it out in detail. Drink at least a tall glass of water first, though.

There are more stages to building a hockey team than just rebuilding or being an all-in contender.

We have a handful of managers in that room that have realistic goals and expectations for the coming year and winning the Stanley Cup in 2023-2024 is probably not their short term goal.

Of course winning the Cup is the end result we all want to achieve but this idea that we have to be a contender next year because we didn't rebuild is a poor argument.

Well rebuilding is one stage, but you have to commit instead of trying to compete on the fly. They made it clear this fanbase can't handle a rebuild, but definitely can handle another retool lol.

good grief.
I'll keep going if you want to continue quoting me.

They made the decision they weren't going to burn the team down with Pettersson, Hughes and Demko. It had nothing to do with what the fans could handle.
