Who do you have ahead of Wolanin? Hughes, Hronek, Soucy, Cole, Myers and ?

Apparently I'm on drugs or something.

For some reason I thought we had 6 D-men ahead of Wolanin lol.

So I guess he is our #6 and perhaps we acquire another depth D-man to be the regular 7?

I don't know I'm confused now.

e/ I guess I'm operating under the assumption that we acquire a top-4 RD via trade which will push others down and Wolanin out. Perhaps that's not a foregone conclusion, though.

I think you can pencil in the following:

Hughes Cole
Saucy Hronek
Wolanin Myers

I would love to see Woo and Hirose challenge for a roster spot. Woo is waiver eligible so that factors in as well.

Can’t really prove a negative. What other players? Stetcher and Schenn are the only other ones I can recall before yesterday, and that was just lazy speculation because they are former Canucks. None of Holl, Johnson, Graves, Klingberg, Gustafson, Gostisbehere, Clifton, Mayfield, etc were in rumours before yesterday.

Yeah, not sure where you have been, but Holl was rumoured yesterday....

We have been linked at one point or another to any player that "fit" what we would be looking for. I was going to check twitter, but it won't let me even log in so...

You’re out to lunch

You should take a few years off posting until we are a contender. Thanks in advance !

People are allowed to have dissenting opinions.

His is not an outlandish one.

I'd have to take a look at every team's depth chart but I don't think many would consider our defense to be that great. It's not hideous either, so depending on how bullish you are, it's between decent and below average.

If Myers is still on the team, Cole slows down, one of the depth/young LD don't step up their games, Soucy shows that he's definitely nothing more than a #5, it's not going to be pretty. And I don't think the chances of some or even all these things happening is that low.

When fans list their roster on paper in the offseason, there's always a veil of optimism, as if every player is going to play up to their capabilities. That rarely actually comes to fruition.

Right off the hop Anaheim, San Jose, Arizona, Chicago, Philly, Montreal are all worse. I could likely come up with another five or six. It’s not a great group but it’s damn sight better than last season, and the roster isn’t set yet.

very good pickups didnt break the bank for all the guys signed. now onto trades, if they move a few bodies. like everyone here is saying find a 3c right handed guy, pushes down blueger to 4th line duties alongside aman. and another top 4 rhd for hughes then the team is set.

hughes/soucy
cole/hronek
wolanin/myers (might get traded if they find the right dance partner) ahl fillers.

All true but then also consider all those teams are clearly tanking.

So bottom-5 was definitely not a good way to put it, but perhaps bottom-5 out of the teams that aren't trying to be horrible is more appropriate.

I'd say there would be a pretty reasonable expectation that this group would be a bottom five in the playoffs D if they qualify.

If Myers plays decent for the first half of the year they should be able to dump him and quickly replace him with Bear if he still isn’t signed.

So this management group who continued to say to the public it was just structure was the problem, even though majority knew the D was crap under the last 4 coaches, is now realizing the D is not good enough . Oh and how they tried selling Bear as a piece going forward was kind of funny, because it shows how they over evaluated him, so definitely makes you a little skeptical going forward on who the go after.

Might sound weird coming from me...

But I think you are just looking for reasons to be worried.

Cole on the top pair with Hughes doesn’t sit right with me. It’s like having Schenn there all over again. Too old and asking to to do too much and too many minutes. I still think we need a top 4 right shot defenceman to pair with Hughes.

It should be something like:

Hughes-???
Soucy-Hronek
Wolanin-Cole

Worried about what? This franchise has been over sold for the last 10 years, it's become a laughing stock, expectations are the lowest they have ever been since the Keenan years. I'm just pointing out how this management has been blaming structure and not the D, and now looks like they have flip flopped and realizing how bad the D really is, something fans who watch have been seeing for years.

Weird how Rutherford has mentioned how the team needs at least two years to retool since he was hired, and Allvin continued to make “this team needs major surgery” comments over the last year or so.

They built a narrative that Bruce was the problem and that Tochet solved that problem. Just so happened the schedule got super easy the day he coached his 1st game with us. This was so they could get their own coach in.

I would not jump to the conclusion that their pro scouting is flawed.

It was just bullshit narrative they built.

Or they said it took months to get Bear and were so happy to finally get him to just let him walk....

I feel bad for Bruce, because it didn't matter what structure they had the D was so bad, but credit where credits due Scott Walker actually was able to make it work a bit with how bad the D was, sucked for Bruce he wasn't back the next year, and then Demko being out killed Bruce, but it wasn't all structure it was always the D they had that was crap, but management continued to go on about structure.

Also.

For what ever reason OEL and Myers had a massive bounce back year. And then 2022-23 happened to them.
