Yes we heard a ton in the last 24 hours of the guys we did sign... again seems like agent leaks.

Multiple people have been talking about Cole and Soucy for a week or two. Twitter being down makes this harder, but a couple of examples:

Drance and Dhaliwal on June 20: “In the event that Carson Soucy hits the market, he’s a player the club would be interested in bidding for.”

Dhaliwal on June 26: “Another defenseman to keep an eye on for Vancouver if, capital letters IF, he hits the free agent market is Tampa Bay 34 year old left shot D Ian Cole.."

You haven't shown anything here... again go back two weeks lots of speculation about lots of players, then as we got closer we wee linked to a few players, mainly Cole and Soucy.... I am not refuted we have heard there names... for weeks. that actually still fits my narrative.

I dont know why it is so important to some posters;
This idea that the current management has found a way to keep everyone in the dark.

Its obviously not true. They just cleared house and the media folk need to build new relationships.

Naysayers be damned, today was a solid day. Hard to be fatalistic and doom and gloom when every single signing was rock solid.

Who woulda thought that getting rid of the dumb people and bringing in smart people would help?

I know we're not done yet either. Which is kind of exciting.

Cautiously optimistic? Competent management? What is this I'm feeling? It's a strange, foreign thing in my heart.

Unless they can make a trade they're done.

You might have to change your poster name. :D

With the FA signings feels like biggest problems still remains.

On defense

Hughes- ?????
Cole- Hronek
Soucy-Myers
Everyone else.

Need a backup goalie as well.
The ??? Beside Hughes is probably going to be Juulsen take that how you will.

you guys are sleeping on wolanin. he's gonna force cole or soucy to the right side.
Absent more moves I think you’ll see the opening night roster look like this:

Hughes-Myers/Cole
Soucy Hronek
Wolanin-Cole/Myers

That said, I think they’ll move Myers out and acquired another top 4 D in a trade. At least I think that’s what they’re hoping for.

oh god it's already so much better than last year
I wouldn’t even put Wolanin in the “fringe NHL D man “ category. He deserves to be on an NHL roster somewhere. In recent years the team has constantly been trying to slot in tweeners on a nightly basis.

They’re not done yet but I like the steady process of improving both the NHL D core and the D prospects.

You’d think management might just know what they’re doing.

Reckon it’s the best it’s been in a very long time. Cautiously optimistic. If Demko can bounce back, our forwards take another step, we’re looking like a good threat for a PO spot.

Or we lose the first game and the wheels come flying off again.. October can’t come soon enough!

It's just nice to see management targeting players (especially D) that know how to play the position effectively. We seem to have a defense that is competent for once and not full of Myers, Pouliot, Gudbranson, OEL and whoever else Benning scouted once and got hyper fixated on.

Decent trio of signings.

Team got better and harder to play against with palatable contracts.

Blueger one is a little odd but the contract is small enough for it not to really matter.

I hope they aren't done because I really don't want to watch Myers in a Canucks uniform for one more second but if he's being shipped out we probably are going to have to wait for that bonus payout.

Still got little bit of a winger logjam, as well.

Any chance Hirose or McWard fit into the top 6 next year? Strangely I haven't seen their names mentioned much but both looked great during their short stint with the Canucks.

I think Hirose has a shot to fight against Wolanin for that 6th and 7th spot.

Gotta say I am pretty satisfied with Allvin's work today. They added some useful players that will help in the areas the Canucks are particularly lacking in. And they avoided some of the abysmal contracts that were handed out like candy. The 3C hole is still there, but with the cap space they had, they were not going to be able to address everything.

I think they leveled themselves up to the point that the playoffs should be expected. I see them as a better team than STL, CGY, and WPG - who are the other Wild Card competitors.

Cc: Other posters who routinely called me a management hater or too negative or "traumatized" by Benning. I'm as objective as I can be. When management makes moves I think are solid, then I think they're solid. If they don't, I don't. That's it.

A nice sane beginning to the off-season from management. Essentially turned over half of the top 6 defensemen the last 4ish months. Not to mention the rest of the turnover in the organizational blue line depth during the same time.

Can’t really prove a negative. What other players? Stetcher and Schenn are the only other ones I can recall before yesterday, and that was just lazy speculation because they are former Canucks. None of Holl, Johnson, Graves, Klingberg, Gustafson, Gostisbehere, Clifton, Mayfield, etc were in rumours before yesterday.

Sane is the right way to describe it. Targeted weaknesses, gave term to someone trending upwards, no inane overpays. Kept in mind OEL's buyout will hurt a few years from now so no tying hands any further.

As an aside, OEL signed for 2.25M... if you add his most expensive buyout year with his current caphit, it's still less than how much cap room he took. Which I think proves straight away that PA made the right decision to cut the franchise's losses on Benning's mastershit.

I'm optimistic on Wolanin winning a top six spot and things working out like this:

Kuzmenko - Pettersson - Boeser
Beauvillier / Hoglander - Miller - Garland / Hoglander
Mikheyev - Blueger - Podkolzin
Dakota - Aman - Di Giuseppe

Hughes - Cole
Soucy - Hronek
Wolanin - Myers
Rathbone

Demko
Martin

*I'm hoping for a winger trade where we offload Garland (hopefully) but maybe most realistically Beauvillier making room for Hoglander who I'd like to see be given a shot.

Room for improvement would be moving off a winger, maybe replacing Myers with someone cheaper, hopefully getting a more bonafide 3C (right-handed good face-off person preferred) bumping Blueger down to 4C with Aman as depth.

But this is more balanced than we've had in a long time, with Myers remaining the really bad dead cap space with only a year to go with him, maybe Boeser but hopefully he can turn it around. Everyone else is either market rate or even below market.

Balanced, cost-effective, with room to go and cap space to get there.

Not complete, but definitely trending in the right direction. And where I have the biggest questions (1RD and 2LD) we hopefully have the pieces on the way (Willander and maybe Pettersson, though admittedly the latter is a bit more of a hope).

Also, I'm putting a lot of weight around the importance of Tocchet, if he can instill an aggressive culture and disciplined structure I think that could have more impact than a lot of the roster chagnes.

McWard definitely needs time in the AHL. Hirose showed very well and I thought they'd let him battle for a spot at camp but it appears the plan is to start him in the AHL, as well. Wouldn't be surprised if Wolanin is kept on the main roster as the #7.

Who do you have ahead of Wolanin? Hughes, Hronek, Soucy, Cole, Myers and ?
