It’s news because:

A. She’s is female and mgmt made a big deal about hiring equality
B. BB literally just said she was going to be a part of their plans
C. People questioned the hire due to her past
D. Team went dark in regards to the response of her firing (likely for a few reasons)

From start to finish, not good.
A and C were the only reasons her firing was noteworthy, which caused completely ordinary behaviour from the team following her firing, i.e., not answering questions or deliberately releasing information about it, to be construed as a "veil of secrecy."

Between the offseason and now Doerrie, bang up job so far by new mgmt.

Geezus............this fanbase has the patience of a 4 year old with ADD waiting in line at the candy store.

Doerrie is small news and being completely over exaggerated here by this fanbase. Maybe everyone is still shell shocked from our last regime but the hyperbole coming out of peoples mouths on this thread is wayyyy over the top.

regardless of the specifics of the doerrie thing the canucks did a terrible job managing it. it takes very little competence to terminate someone without it becoming a pr crisis. how hard is it to have a separation agreement and pr cover ready to go before you tell the employee they are no longer required? it's not like doerrie could do any damage as an analytics analyst/assistant video coach. they could have just put up with her until they had their ducks in a row
They might have had all their ducks in a row. The problem is that the team needs to give her enough time to get independent legal advice before she signs the separation agreement, otherwise it could be set aside.

I don't know, it went like 36-48 hrs without a confirmation. I think its one thing to not feel you need to comment on a low level move, and another to not just say yes, we have let her go.

I think they have also let it become a story if it was or wasn't. This is their doing, and I still think this came from ownership not management. But that is just my opinion.

It should be phrased something more along the lines of "she is no longer with the organization"
Doesn't indicate which side precipitated the exit. Keeps it neutral.

Appropriate strategy to follow for *EVERYONE* to follow if your employer gives you a document to sign when they terminate you. Tell them you'll sign it once you get your "lawyer" (or somebody with some expertise in the manner) to look it over. Don't automatically sign it until you at the very least take a VERY good look at it.

But my law experience consists of taking *ONE* Commercial Law course at UBC (*DECADES* ago lol) & watching "The Paper Chase" movie a couple times.

It's like you thought all these points add up to something noteworthy. They don't. You've drawn your own conclusions - what exactly are you trying to say here? What isn't good about this?

All I'm getting is someone got fired and management doesn't think the media and fans should be privy to the information. Ohhhhhh nooooo.

Media and fans are going to find out in this market.

Mgmt can keep a lid on it initially, but eventually it will get out.

Especially given her past.

Especially because she was part of the new wave female regime.

Especially cause Bruce just talked about her.

Especially cause no one actually knows why she got fired.

It’s a high profile Canadian market where everyone wants to know every detail down to where someone bought their bbq.

It looks bad because if she was not good at her job, then why was she brought in in the first place? Mgmt would look foolish regarding their evaluations of talent and it would seem like the hire was entirely based on the fact she was a female (even if it wasn’t).

That doesn't look bad you've manufactured your own drama.

It's a hire that didn't work out. You are literally fluffing everything up.

I don’t know - sounds like mixed responses about Horvat with Allvin. Will be interesting to follow.

He talks about cap space, future signing of Elias Pettersson and recent signing of Miller. Maybe foreshadowing something or just using these factors for negotiations.
It’s been quite underwhelming so far with the new management team. Nothing was really addressed.

What was she hired to do? What was she not doing (that she was hired to do) that got her fired?

Her hiring got a lot of media attention that was facilitated if not even encouraged by the team. She was played in team videos, put in interviews, and had senior management comment about her importance.

So if her hiring merited that kind of attention then it's naive and even hypocritical to then argue that her firing wouldn't deserve the same level of regard, let alone any comment.

Management need to be all over the D market and waivers. OEL Hughes Schenn and Myers are safe. Dermot with be in the 8 somewhere.

Every other position is up for replacement. They should be looking for 2 upgrades, not afraid to send some of the existing players down. They need to get brave.

Weisbrod always gave off the impression that he had to be the smartest person in every room.
Couldnt have been tough with the Canucks considering this was the only other person in the room:

I objected to the idea that her firing is somehow bad or a negative. If people want to discuss what happened of course feel free.

They just doubled down on this shit team for the foreseeable future.

Those 4 year olds will be 10 year olds minimum before we are competing for a cup.

The funny part is the folks complaining about this also praised the previous regime almost to the end.

Jagger loved him some Benning.

It actually cracks me up how many Benning guys now act like they weren’t Benning guys.

Oh gawd I never loved Benning...........I preached patience for the first several years........just like I am here. Eventually I clued in that Jimbo needed to wear velcro shoes and adjusted my attitude as such. Probably a good season too late but yeah it became pretty clear to me that Dim Jim was fully unqualified for the job. If it makes you feel better to think otherwise feel free........I'm have about as much interest in correcting u as I do in knowing the price of tea in China right now.

People on this board expecting current management go from a fat overweight and broke 30 year old into a stacked wealthy in shape stud overnight..........that's not gonna happen as the sins of Jimbo are not gonna be erased overnight.

For the most part I think management has done a decent job - other than re-signing Boeser (which would have been an incredibly tough decision but the right one to let him walk) and not saving that cap for a d man they've been fine.

Yes you can see from 4 solar systems away we need a massive upgrade on our D - sooner or later that will happen. .............Until then I'm gonna do the same thing as I've done - preach patience. Rome wasn't built in a day and neither will this hockey club.

They just doubled down on this shit team for the foreseeable future.

So we should have done what? Our team - despite your assertations - was never in a position to rebuild. We have too many high quality assets to do so.

If we don't fix the d at some point then yeah this management has failed.........until then I'm in wait and see mode and not rush to indict mode........
