So when was the last time a NHL team made a coaching change and rumors didn’t fly around who the replacement is from all the hockey insiders.

Probably never? The whole point of sports journalism is to talk about shit like this. Even if there aren’t any credible rumors they will make shit up because media need stories.

Of course it is, but it isn't to leak from the POHO during a press conference, I'm sorry show me where that has ever happened before?

The respectable thing to do here would be to fire Boudreau and then do a search, which is what most teams do, but like everything else we do things ass backwards.

You're missing the point.

The mismanagement pertains to how long they've kept Boudreau around swinging in the wind and trash-talking him in public. If you don't want the guy, fire him and name an interim.

Nobody cares about rumours, it's the context. The way they've gone about doing it is trash. There is no excuse for how they've treated him.
EXACTLY

I swear Rutherford could murder a few of these posters families and they’d still have a laundry list of excuses why it’s not their fault and shouldn’t be held against them.

Like now it’s the media’s fault….ffs.
Same stupidity that had so many loyal to Benning until the end.

Man just listen to the 32 podcast and you’ll hear them talk about coaching replacement for whatever team every other pod.

“We don’t like to speculate other people’s job because I wouldn’t want that to happen to me” and then proceeds to speculate. Does that sound familiar to you?
That’s not the same as this situation at all

BB is paid to coach and they have let him done the thing that he is paid to do.

Regarding the “trash talk”. From all the interviews I have listened to, and I think I have listened to most of it. The only thing they have said is the system is not there and the training camp is not good. That’s a critique on the results and not on the person.

Somehow all of you guys assume that the management cannot critique the results at all. Like results are results and we can all see it. In my world, that’s how we are taught to give feedback, talk about the result and not the person and here are you guys going on about omg JR so classless, how could they talk about how bad the result is. Like wtf are you guys on?

Which coach is on the hot seat right now and who would the replacement is?
From what I know, they have talked to this person, that person.

Tell me you have never heard something like that before. It literally happens every single season on pod, radio, sports net panel, TSN panel, twitter

And like I said above, it's pretty clear that this whole coaching mess rests with ownership.

Rutherford and Allvin very clearly wanted to bring in 'their guy' in the summer and were forced to keep a lame duck coach they didn't want because the fans liked singing a dumb song.

I can't really blame management much for being frustrated that they're stuck with someone they don't want.

can we switch directions

why is the canucks head doctor a chiropractor

(no offense to any chiros in here) but a non significant minority of chiros would admit it’s pseudoscience

Wait, what?

All of these guys have medical degrees?

Again apples to oranges. Name me another situation where a coach is still employed and every insider has all but confirmed who the specific replacement coach is. Not speculating names, but actually identified the next coach in advance.

And how about the team president openly stating that he’s been talking to potential replacements for months while his current coach is still here.

Just give me one example.

If you can’t manage up to convince ownership that you have to remove the coach with only one remaining season left youre failing.

This ownership blaming is tiresome. Nice words Rutherford told us his job was also to manage up. He’s failing.

I really don’t get this notion that they have to fire the coach.

Like in what world is it acceptable to underperform so badly that you get to be paid to not do the job you are paid to do? You guys are really failing to understand they live in a world that is different to ours. Yes in the normal world, your boss won’t talk about who is replacing you out loud. Well guess what, in our world, we also don’t have million dollar guaranteed contract where I get paid regardless of me f***ing up or not and the next job is just around the corner despite how hard I f*** up.

They are paying him to coach and he is coaching. They even admitted that they are tanking right now so why the f*** should they risk making a change?

ok i phrased it poorly. why is a random “consultant” harry sese playing such a significant role? does not seem like a consulstant?

He was asked, point blank, during the conference to clarify if he's full-time or a consultant and he said he was a consultant. Earlier said his role was to review the practices and operations of the medical team. Gave a recommendation. When they reformed parts of that he continued with the Canucks to recommend people for the open roles.

Francesco Aquilini? Is that you?

If not then maybe look to the way most teams are run, it's called respect and if you think for a second that the result on the ice is Bruce's fault, I don't know what to tell ya man, like that's head in sand mentality

Reasons not to fire Boudreau:
- what's the point, this team isn't making the playoffs
- a "new coach bump" will only give the Canucks a worse 1st round pick

Reasons to fire Boudreau:
- it makes people feel bad to see that cherubic face looking so glum

The main reasons to fire Boudreau are :

1) Management should have had the ability to hire their coach who fits what they want to do as an organization right from the start, and the sooner this is corrected the better.

2) This team needs a culture reset and needs to create an environment where they can retain Pettersson/Kuzmenko etc and the sooner that happens the better. And needs a defensive reset.

I think that's unfair.

Boudreau is a very offense first type coach. the architects of the defensive end of, and special teams aspect of last years success were not pursued at all and were replaced with yeo and culll. Boudreau still has one of the best offensive teams in the nhl but with yeo and cull in place of shaw and walker it's not even close.

At days end the results do rest on the shoulders of the HC but he also has a team to work with and Yeo and Cull are not pulling their weight at all

Walker would have been back if not for his concussion issues. Shaw jumped to take an 'associate coach' promotion with his longtime friend Torts. I don't think it was a case where the organization shoved either out.

Regardless, management clearly wanted to bring in a new coach last summer who aligned with their vision and weren't given that opportunity, and it's gone just about exactly as you'd expect with a lame duck coach.

Define lame duck though?

I still see Boudreau as being an offense first coach and he's certainly doing that.

I think the telling point will be if Cull Yeo and King stay on after the new coach takes over
