Respectfully. Benning also had Granlund and Baertschi which looked like wins at the time. Until....

Baertschi and Dermott are kind of getting cut from the same cloth. Probably will be decent pieces to round out the roster but injuries will hold them back. The big issue with Baertschi was the insane extension he got when he had no leverage.

He changed his name a couple of times afterwards, maybe somebody has his posts saved

He paid cap dump price to dump Dickinson. Seems like you are the one overlooking that part of the deal. Hell JR even admitted they paid to dump Dickinson.

So tell me the difference in this so called "age gap" you mentioned between Benning and Rutherford?

-Dermott was 25 when he set foot on this roster
-Bear was 25 when he set foot on this roster

are you advocating for older age gap players and skipping early 20's?

Donny and Dahli reacting to today's presser.

Donny nailed it hard. Today should have been 100% about Gino the Algonquin Assassin Odjick. Instead Jimmy decided to pull this ridiculous presser for little to no reason other than to talk about Pearson's injury. When you look at this and then how he's treated Boudreau by dragging him out publicly and going behind his back to look for a replacement while say he isn't going to be replaced but he's talked to replacements

One has to wonder, wtf kind of respect Jimmy Rutherford has at all for this organization and its fans at all. I haven't seen someone so completely out of touch with this fan base in some time.

Don Taylor going on a rant about how management had a press conference today after the Gino news yesterday. Even though the conference was scheduled days in advanced and was long overdue. Not sure who pissed in Taylor's cereal this morning.

RIP Gino, he'll have his day on Wednesday hopefully.

Uhhh Granlund was trash, we were all saying that when they acquired him.
We all said Baertschi’s price was steep.

That’s the thing, Benning paid premium for these 2nd hand pieces. JR and Allvin had paid discount price for 2nd pieces.
You're forgetting of course that Ruthervin has ONLY been in charge since Dec last year. IN a short year he's gotten two rhd players and paid to offload others. It's been a single year vs Benning's 7.5

Give it time. Once the coaching bump happens because the Canucks start playing a different style than what every NHL has tape on them for and they string together some credible wins; you'll see a lot more of the same stuff I'd think.

I am fully prepared to see this team do nothing or add at the TDL and possibly lose one of Kuzmenko/Schenn/Horvat for absolutely nothing and hear how lots of calls were made, we tried but the market/other teams/the cap/injuries and finally we were close and believe we can be better next year.

I like how throwing a future 2nd rounder is excused because it dumped a salary (that wouldn’t have been Required had they managed their own spending) in a season the POHO has recognized now as “tanking”.

I also like how the player that came back ad part of the dump gets discounted because he sucks, even though he’s on the roster AND signed next season.

People would be lol’ing if Sam Jose was paying high picks to dump salary given their situation but here many seem to love it.

They paid a cheap price for NHL players that are on a cheap contract that have not hit their ceiling and god knows if they will.

If this was another team, the fans of those teams would simply refer to those trades as…. a trade.
The age gap concept it’s a stupid concept that Benning and Weisbrod invented to rationalize the premium price they paid. It’s a concept that no other teams and other GMs adhere to or even mentions

“But these guys are actually proven in the nhl” will be the response even though both played themselves off playoff teams.

Wow you are going to lump in Hamonic as if that was a bad trade?

That’s the thing people keep ignoring. Benning’s pro scouting was f***ing whack. Like a hockey trade does not naturally lead to bad outcomes. It’s just that Benning is so f***ing awful with his pro scouting and has missed on so many trades that this fan base is now apparently completely unable to grasp the idea that trading for non futures can have a good outcome.

This fanbase has been absurdly traumatized by Benning.

Mention any sort of perfectly normal, reasonable trade for a 22-25 y/o player and everyone starts cowering in a corner chanting about AGE GAP Vey-Clendening-Baertschi-Granlund.

The fact that Jim Benning was a terrible evaluator of talent in addition to a terrible negotiator who consistently overpaid for terrible players doesn't mean that making hockey trades for young players is a bad idea. 0

Quotes coming out of this press conference aren't inspiring any confidence right now.

Yeah. A lot of frustration, not a lot of answers.

Wow. Openly admitting that you've talked to the current coach's potential replacement going back as far as months ago.

How can people defend this shit?

It's pretty much confirmation that they weren't allowed to select their head coach last summer and ownership forced them to eat a lame duck Boudreau.

The coaching mess at this point I put 100% on ownership. Management got absolutely screwed over here.

Yep, exactly.

This will satisfy the non-HF people out there, and the will forget once Tocchet gets the dead cat bounce and everyone forgets how horrible the season will go.

Horvat stays for the playoff push, we trade more assets for "help", we miss the playoffs, win meaningless games at the end to ruin the odds for Bedard, and rinse and repeat.

What?

He said almost the opposite of this. That they want the #1 pick, that Horvat is probably getting traded, that they aren't making moves for this season. Joked that we're tanking as it is.

Basically......what a f***ing clown show we are.

They had a good trade and got a 3rd for Hamonic. k

People also didn't mind the Sutter trade, the Miller trade or the Vanek trade.

Again. It's been a single year.

Give them time. With what's been said, is being said and the moves that have been made it is so eerily similar to what we've gone through since 2014 that it is giving me some ptsd

How’s this different than all the other in season firing and replacement of coaches?

Everybody knows that BB is going to be gone sooner or later. Any diligent management group would talk to every single coaching candidate they can to prepare for it.
Are they suppose to hold off any coaching search until BB is actually fired? It’s not like BB doesn’t know that he is done once the contract is over, it’s not like that part is not transparent to everybody involved.

Yah all that would happen, behind closed doors, which, you know is the opposite of this.

You are brining in examples that makes no f***ing sense.

Have they made Sutter like trades or Miller like trades? They haven’t so what’s the point you are trying to make? They will eventually make a trade that bad because <reasons>??

Thank you for being the prime example of a fan suffering from Benning PTSD.

I don’t follow other teams close enough so if this really is normal then I’ll take your word for it

So when was the last time a NHL team made a coaching change and rumors didn’t fly around who the replacement is from all the hockey insiders.

Probably never? The whole point of sports journalism is to talk about shit like this. Even if there aren’t any credible rumors they will make shit up because media need stories.

No, they make "no sense to you"

But you're literally only looking at what the new team has done in a year while using the entirety of the 7.5 years of Benning as your counterpoint.

Like it or not even Benning made some meh/ok trades in his time. Don't forget that at days end it's only been one year.

Man just listen to the 32 podcast and you’ll hear them talk about coaching replacement for whatever team every other pod.

“We don’t like to speculate other people’s job because I wouldn’t want that to happen to me” and then proceeds to speculate. Does that sound familiar to you?

You're missing the point.

The mismanagement pertains to how long they've kept Boudreau around swinging in the wind and trash-talking him in public. If you don't want the guy, fire him and name an interim.

Nobody cares about rumours, it's the context. The way they've gone about doing it is trash. There is no excuse for how they've treated him.
