One thing that stands out from today's comments in the presser were about the lack of movements and inability to move contracts and cap space that they have issues with.

Yet.

Boeser, Miller, MIkheyev and more were all done by this management team.

It needs minor surgery but now major surgery yet the core is fine.

So many comments that contradicted each other.

And like I said above, it's pretty clear that this whole coaching mess rests with ownership.

Rutherford and Allvin very clearly wanted to bring in 'their guy' in the summer and were forced to keep a lame duck coach they didn't want because the fans liked singing a dumb song.

I can't really blame management much for being frustrated that they're stuck with someone they don't want.

I'm getting a bit sick of this song and dance, to be honest. Fine, it's ownership, or it's management, whatever it's bush league.

Rutherford is standing up there at the podium saying "ownership has no influence in my decisions", so he's lying, or he's not. It doesn't really matter. It's a giant joke regardless of whether you believe him or not.

How they've handled Boudreau is just a giant black mark on this organization that won't go away easily. There's absolutely zero rational reason anyone could provide as to why he's still coaching here.

Define lame duck though?

I still see Boudreau as being an offense first coach and he's certainly doing that.

I think the telling point will be if Cull Yeo and King stay on after the new coach takes over

What?

Lame duck means a coach on an expiring contract that everyone knows isn't coming back.

I mean, Rutherford can't go up there and say 'my boss created this absolute mess!'. Of course he's lying.

And yes, the whole thing has been a total circus. But it rests with the owner. At this point I have very little doubt that this isn't what Rutherford/Allvin wanted.

Again apples to oranges. Name me another situation where a coach is still employed and every insider has all but confirmed who the specific replacement coach is. Not speculating names, but actually identified the next coach in advance.

And how about the team president openly stating that he’s been talking to potential replacements for months while his current coach is still here.

Just give me one example.
Remember when rumors were flying around the VGK regarding De Boer being replaced and the insiders were speculating who would replace De Boer. Yeah that happened.

You are right that there hasn’t been a case where the POHO has came out and stated that they are talking to people about a new coach. Are we going to sit here and pretend that this is surprising. BB has failed horribly at his job and there is zero case for him to be extended beyond this season. There could’ve been talks internally between management and coaching and we don’t know that. If there is then I don’t see the issue with being transparent that they are going to move on with another coach eventually. What’s the point of sugar coating or lying about it? There is no point, we all see the results.

Finally, for those of you who think we should treat BB better by firing him and risking us having less odds for Bedard. Come on out. I am willing to say I care more about Bedard odds more than I care about BB’s potentially hurt feelings.

Wholeheartedly agree. Aquilini is too dumb realize that all this posturing on the part of his employees just makes him look worse.

Kind of strange to say it, but I think the guy who comes out of this most improved is Jim Benning. Benning took lots of flak for his management term here and his track record was poor. That said, after having seen what has happened so far in the Rutherford/Allvin term and seeing that people who are far more competent can be made to look like complete clowns because ownership is determined to sink their own ship it does leave you sort of going "hmm, I wonder how much of the Benning Bads were actually on Jim".*

*This is what I had been saying the whole time by the way. Don't mistake me for being a Benning bro, it's just that being an Aquilini antagonist comes first!

And it was weeks out and the specific replacement coach was all but confirmed by multiple insiders? I don't remember it like that.

Like I originally said, this situation is bizarre.

Yeah, no.

Benning consistently made absolutely atrocious personnel decisions. Every single transaction the new group has made has been a good target at reasonable value, save Stillman who they probably had to take.

If these guys make an OEL deal or a Gudbranson deal or a Sutter deal or spend $6 million on Roussel/Beagle forcing Tanev/Toffoli to walk then maybe Benning would look better. But nothing like that has happened.

Most of what we're seeing now is *because* of Jim Benning.

Yes, Aquilini is a terrible owner who is probably trying to meddle. But the disaster under Benning was way beyond ownership.

I mean it was pretty clear after last TDL that we have another incompetent management group. Since their lacklustre TDL performance last year all they’ve done is make it even more clear that they don’t have a f***ing clue what their doing. How could they have not known moving contracts was going to be difficult, they were all working in the league and many of this new management group had front office jobs so they should’ve known that. It just blows my mind that this are the best people for the job… it’s clear their not but we just have another circus show for a front office again. Excuses after excuses from them. Goodluck in the retool! 😂 no cap room, no assets, nothing coming up yeah lets see how this works out for the long term.

Would love to see a side0by-siude live feed replay of this message boards comments on his presser today compared to his first presser as a Canuck

I'm just somewhat shocked a guy with Rutherford's pedigree would come in here and be dicked around by Aquilini like some Benning-type idiot. Why is he sullying his reputation by doing this? Just the money?

re-signing Boeser at 6.6 and Miller at 8 million when we had cap issues and an unsigned Horvat, Mikheyev is a nice player and he’s deal isn’t bad but he’s more of a luxury player and we just didn’t have the cap room for him if we wanted to keep Boeser, Horvat and Miller. This management group hasn’t been very good at all.

It's been brought up in countless threads, and oddly a continuation of a contradiction we have seen the last 8 years.

You can say the execution has been somewhat better with the trades the past year and argue that the Bear and Dermott trades have been wins, but point remains...the intent seems on bridging the age gap via taking chances on cast-offs who have a lower ceiling.

This management group, much like the last one is working on a provided blueprint which puts forth a "win-now" mandate set out by ownership. You can call it a re-tool if you want, but you are not re-tooling by killing your cap flexibility and stating your intent to clean house.

There's no way to really articulate this weird dynamic to the public without throwing FAQ under the bus so you get these weird press conferences where you have many contradictions.

News of Rutherford's hiring wasn't announced until later in the week -- he was battling an illness when the team was initially seeking a decision about his joining the organization -- but he said Canucks owner Francesco Aquilini consulted with him about hiring Boudreau. Rutherford said he told Aquilini he "most definitely" approved of the coaching hire.

"I like Bruce a lot," Rutherford said of Boudreau, who is 4-0 since taking the reins.

That was December 13, 2021, even less than a year. Someone please photoshop Rutherford and Bruce in that MAF stabbed in the back meme, please.

For any other team it'd be a giant black mark and will be treated as such, with much serious considerations and stoicism. For us it's just a dot on an encyclopedia of epic failures for nearly a decade, a drop of ink in a silo full of piss, and a pebble on a mountain of embarrassment.

Well we don’t even know if this rumor is bogus. JR said that they talked with multiple guys. It’s almost he is saying you think you know it’s Tocchet?

Here is what we know based on today’s press. I didn’t watch the beginning since I thought it was just about Pearson but apparently not.

They are tanking so there goes the rumor of this management group not wanting to tank.

They have talked to multiple coaches and those guys have not leaked so who knows if Tocchet is the guy based on that.

He said he wanted picks and prospects or did I misheard that.

Oh Pearson didn’t raise any issue throughout the whole process so if anything wrong it seems like it’s the unfortunate nature of surgeries. Pearson also in the process of getting multiple opinions and is undecided in terms of what to do next.

Well we don’t even know if this rumor is bogus. JR said that they talked with multiple guys. It’s almost he is saying you think you know it’s Tocchet?
It's not bogus. Friedman, Seravlli, Weekes....they've all zeroed in on Tocchet.

They don't all do that and then miss.

I do have to say though, with each passing day, the meddling of Fredolini is becoming more and more apparent. There have been hints and rumors for a very long time, extended back when Gillis was around. But it is only in the last few years, for myself, that these things are becoming basically impossible to ignore. I'm sure many brighter minds than mine already figured this shit out long ago, that our team is owned by a small man with a big Napoleon complex, and he's driving the team straight into the depths of eternal hell.
