No, they make "no sense to you"

But you're literally only looking at what the new team has done in a year while using the entirety of the 7.5 years of Benning as your counterpoint.

Like it or not even Benning made some meh/ok trades in his time. Don't forget that at days end it's only been one year.

Benning’s entire tenure is a counterpoint to anything that happens in the NHL. He is GOAT level bad for that reason. He does shit that no other GMs do.

Wow, what a joke. First off Donnie is right, the timing of this press conference could not have been worst. Move it to tomorrow and show some respect for Gino for f*** sake.

JR: you spent months analyzing this team and thought it only need minor surgery? You didn't realize it will be hard to dump contract in a flat cap world? You get paid millions and spent months on this and you STILL couldn't come to the right conclusion? Any regular joe who pay any attention to the team for the last couple years could've told you this, yet you with your army of new GM/AGMs can't? Time to move over grandpa and let somebody who actually understand hockey and salary cap take over.

Allvin and the rest of the AGMs: I don't believe you are all ok with this, so speak up or GTFO. I understand Allvin might need the paycheque so he'll happily play the puppet, but Castonguay and Granato, you guys have high paying and/or respectable carriers to fall back on, why are you guys staying on to be yes-people!? Grow a spine and quit before it tarnish your reputations too!

This is such a clown show, I almost kind of feel bad for the players (key word: almost).

It's not bogus. Friedman, Seravlli, Weekes....they've all zeroed in on Tocchet.

They don't all do that and then miss.
I mean sure, if it happens. I mean did they get the Dermott,Hamonic, Dickinson trade? Did they get the Mik and Lazar signing? The Miller or Boeser signing? I think the only thing anyone got was Bear. So they have a remarkably low hit rate with rumors.

And how many assistant gms do we have,do we ever hear from any of them,,wtf do they do,,
Well the media declared this diverse staff the best they ever assembled the minute they were all confirmed. You cannot criticize this regime or they may one up themselves and appoint another person in charge with an irrelevant resume to fill a quota.

Yeah, no.

Benning consistently made absolutely atrocious personnel decisions. Every single transaction the new group has made has been a good target at reasonable value, save Stillman who they probably had to take.

If these guys make an OEL deal or a Gudbranson deal or a Sutter deal or spend $6 million on Roussel/Beagle forcing Tanev/Toffoli to walk then maybe Benning would look better. But nothing like that has happened.

Most of what we're seeing now is *because* of Jim Benning.

Yes, Aquilini is a terrible owner who is probably trying to meddle. But the disaster under Benning was way beyond ownership.

I wasn't clear enough, since you missed the point.

Benning was a bad GM and his poor personnel evaluation compounded management's terrible overall plan. He was also not nearly as bad as people think. (like 2/10 instead of 1/10, which is twice as good!)

That plan matters way more than the quality of player evaluation and the hockey world will now be giving Jim the benefit of that doubt. "He drafted Pettersson and Hughes... imagine what he could do with a competent owner letting him make other decisions". I can just see the hockey world lining up to offer him a chance at redemption. My main point is that this is funny. "Benning-Bro" was tongue in cheek.

Ive said this since the start.

Its going to be benning's plan executed better, but at the same time of cleaning up his mistakes.

I think they are much more competent than benning, but the strategy is still wrong and not conducive to winning a cup.

They are better than JEB but not a whole lot, from what I see. And...that's a depressingly low bar, don't you think?

They can talk better than JEB, and...that's really about it.

They claim to be tanking but their signings and attempts to retain Horvat contradict that. Or maybe it's all part of their tanking and half-ass retool tactic?

Two aspects of their managing competency have yet to be seen, drafting/eye for talents, and trades. Contact negotiation, one can say that signing Miller is a plus, but given the circumstances at the time, where someone like Pacioretty could be given away for nothing, and how Miller's been performing since then, I would not put that as evidence that Moleman and Alv are good at dealing with contracts.

Again, you're making weird comparisons.

I'm saying they don't miss when they zero in on a move with specific names. You're saying they don't catch every move before it's made. Two different things.

Also yes, Mikheyev and Bear were rumoured before acquired. This organization isn't the sealed vault that some like to pretend it is.

Unless Tocchet is the one leaking info prematurely.
I mean he does work in media so that's very possible

No, he really was that bad.

After some consideration I'd give JEB a grade of 0.5/10. He did a few not-so-shitty-things, and he could stand and walk on his own. He could talk on his own, sort of, but you'd think either he doesn't know how to read the prompts or his thoughts move at the speed of glacial migration.

Coming up with any positives for this man is really like trying to scraping of inside of my toilet with a box cutter...

Yeah Tocchet does work in the media so it’s very obvious who is doing the leaking. But until a contract is signed, you don’t know if that’s going to land.

So there are really only two possibilities right now. He signs and all the leaks are right. He doesn’t and all of this is a giant FU to the media.

Its a very low bar, me saying they are much better than him doesnt mean I dont believe we dont have bottom 10 management league wide. I was quietly optimistic until the miller extension. That one was an absolute dagger, but if the eye is to try and make the playoffs over the next couple seasons, re signing miller gives a better chance of that than the pieces he would return.

The kicker is, so does re-signing horvat. Which I would bet money on still happens. I fully expect horvat to be here next training camp with a new deal.

I am not even going to say I come in peace

Did I hear right that the canucks confirmed they have talks with several people about the coaching position? Did they fire Bruce and i missed it? As an oiler fan I can say our entire organization often rides in a clown car. But if the canucks did make that statement? It is beyond oiler level stupid and disrespectful.

What the hell happened with the team? If Bruce got hired a month earlier I think you guys make the playoffs last season.

How did he lose the room so quickly?
