I love JR. He's about as transparent as a guy in a senior management position can be. Don't have to agree with everything he says but it is refreshing.

i wish someone had asked rutherford to reconcile his comments about the miller contract not being a cap problem and his comments that the cap was preventing trades and was going to lead to the loss of horvat. i get that he was talking about the miller contract with regards to the future and the horvat deal is a problem right now but what responsibility does he take for putting them in a position to lose horvat over the cap?

Credit is due for being open and honest, but I think the problem is that we're not looking for more talk.

We want something productive to be done about the situation.
I think we all want that, and I think he kind of explained why there has been so little movement...I mean I can't defend some of his decisions...I think we all know the value of cap space, he even alluded to it in the interview, but re-signing Miller, signing Mikheyev and re-signing Boeser are all moves that created a restrictive environment...so he's made his bed somewhat, but the market overall has been dead as a doornail and we do have a shit ton of bad money tied up, it's cumulatively a shit sandwich and we're only a few bites into it.

My summary: "re-tooling but that will necessitate moving out some players who are thought to be in the core. Some big contracts for underperforming players will be bought out if they can't move them in a trade by the summer". Both of these points should be welcomed news to this fanbase.

He's the PR spokesperson to reinstall confidence to naïve fans. You just cannot hate the guy because he says everything we want to hear.

This was a wonderful press conference. It will undoubtedly placate most Canucks fans outside of HF.

Yep, exactly.

This will satisfy the non-HF people out there, and the will forget once Tocchet gets the dead cat bounce and everyone forgets how horrible the season will go.

Horvat stays for the playoff push, we trade more assets for "help", we miss the playoffs, win meaningless games at the end to ruin the odds for Bedard, and rinse and repeat.

We never once heard from John Weisbrod in the 7 or so years he was AGM. You never really hear from AGMS period.
That’s horse shit.

He was quoted in interviews when Todd Harvey was promoted. I remember it because the best he could manage was “he’s a great guy to have a beer with” as the reason why he was promoted, lol.

He’s been quoted on other stuff, but that one stood out.

Did he ever do a press conference or media availability... no. No he did not.

He did the same thing earlier in the season, and when he was hired. I understand PR is PR, sure, but when the result is shit, PR is merely sprinkles on a shit sundae.

Until I see actions, his lofty speeches to me means f***-all.

I swear this fan base is suffering so much PTSD from the Benning era that you guys assume any trades will lead to Benning-esque returns. Just chill out, nothing is going to happen for like a month since teams are still accruing capspace.
The rumors are like all over the place. The same Marek who said Canucks are targeting other team’s best prospects is now targeting win now players. Yeah like the ask is really going to change in 2 days….

You need POM’s old avatar but Rutherford as Dirty Harry.

CALLED IT!!!!

Wants young players who
“didn’t work out in their entry”

And people were talking prospects
When given the choice between “upside” and “readiness” they’ll choose readiness every time
Is this a real quote? Yikes

Agreed. He's speaking to a certain segment of the fanbase that is still willing to believe there is some form of hope here. Hope for what ... who knows ... I'm guessing some playoff appearances. Anyone who thinks this team, as composed, is anywhere close to legitimately competing for anything is completely nuts. They are a cycle away (5+ years), and it will take some hard moves and good management to get there.

They are doing what Benning did, just trying to claim they can do it marginally better. Abandon hope, all ye who enter here.

FAQ really learned you need a personable character to really buy more time. Linden was supposed to be that guy but he came off as to insincere and combative to the public.

It does work wonders for naïve people. You hear stories of companies hiring a new approachable VP or PR spokesperson after a traumatic period of layoffs/firings, in a lame attempt to rebuild moral and company imaging, only for the company to just fire more people. One of my companies did this, we had so many workshops and meetings aimed at gauging why our moral was lacking, and then laid us off during COVID.
