That is entirely justified. I'll believe it when I see it. This sort of "cutting corners" type of management typically tends to blow up in your face. Benning, or not. There are very few GMs who've managed it successfully, especially with the type of limitations here in Vancouver, and none of them works for the Canucks.

It very simply has a materially low probability of any type of legitimate success. If your intention is to tread water around 95 points, you might have a better chance.
I get it, they need to earn your trust and this is due to like the trauma from the last 8 years.
I don’t quite believe the rumors since this management group has not leaked trades so far. We made a trade for Dermott and none of those insiders knew about it despite it being in their backyard.

That’s the thing people keep ignoring. Benning’s pro scouting was f***ing whack. Like a hockey trade does not naturally lead to bad outcomes. It’s just that Benning is so f***ing awful with his pro scouting and has missed on so many trades that this fan base is now apparently completely unable to grasp the idea that trading for non futures can have a good outcome.
I'm having an argument with a guy that thinks this teams issues are Gillis'fault because he didn't draft or develop and that Benning left this team in great shape for the future.

Bit early to be drinking but w/e

"I can't speak to what's happened in the past."

3 seconds later:

"We want to bring younger players."
"We are going to try and add more draft picks, bring in younger players."

Dude, that's what the previous regime said many times. Read up on history. Watch Benning press conferences!

I don't even think it's a question of competence. The road they are choosing to walk has such a narrow path to success ... the chances are overwhelming that they will fail and we'll be stuck with a full-on rebuild in 5 years anyways. You could have Sakic or Yzerman in charge here, it wouldn't matter.

Good interview so far, it's not meant to build anyone's confidence...I think he's misread the marketplace, but overall he's been left with crap and nobody in the league wants our crap. He's honest and candid and i can appreciate that...I disagree with some of his philosophies but I appreciate him sitting in the hot seat and laying it out on the table for everyone.

Interesting. Mentions that he won't tell players / coaches not to try to win, but is making decisions "for the future" that do (reading between the lines) weaken the team - i.e. Hoglander, Aman, Podkolzin to Abbotsford.

Meet the new Jim. Same as the old Jim.

Anyone having PTSD at this comment Rutherford just made?

"Ownership has not interfered with any decisions that I have made"
"We are not looking toward a rebuild it's more of a retool. Looking at acquiring younger NHL guys vs draft picks that will help in 4-5 years. We have to go about it in a way that's not a long term rebuild"

He could have ended this press conference so long ago and only discussed the Pearson, but he's allowed the Doctors to leave, and has stayed to answer so many questions and "questions" (reporters asking for thoughts on random Twitter posts from season ticket holders).

credit to rutherford for taking all these questions but if he's just going to repeat they need less bad players and more good players i dunno how much value this exercise has

Talk is cheap, Moleman.

I can talk too, I can say hey tomorrow I'm gonna become a Russian attack helicopter, or that King Charles will officially pass the throne to Meghan Markle. I can say these things and NOTHING will stop me from doing so.

But does that mean I'm not a gibbering village idiot?

Credit is due for being open and honest, but I think the problem is that we're not looking for more talk.

We want something productive to be done about the situation.

I mean he already said they will try to move them out and if they can’t they will buy them out.
It’s like he is telling us yeah one way or another, those players will be gone

He's the PR spokesperson to reinstall confidence to naïve fans. You just cannot hate the guy because he says everything we want to hear.

This was a wonderful press conference. It will undoubtedly placate most Canucks fans outside of HF.

What does this even mean?

Yeah I don't get this, needs context or tone that I'm not getting through the tweet lol.

He might've been better off saying less. That quote about talking to potential Bruce replacements for months is just garbage.

I'm sure the age gap bros are thrilled that they'll be trading Horvat for some young role players.
