I would much rather listen to James Tanner’s opinion on a trade than a fellow NHL defence man. He raised a house full of girls in Sam Francisco, that’s tough work

This guy couldn’t be a Leaf fan. The words he uses when referring to the Leafs defence and Treliving are truly repugnant and downright nasty. I understand disagreeing with the moves, but this guy seems to be really disturbed. He should stop writing about the Leafs, it just isn’t healthy.
What’s funny is this clown regularly posts condescending articles with grammar/syntax mistakes littered throughout.

He’s some Joe Public blogger who thinks memorizing analytics acronyms makes him a more educated hockey fan than the rest. Just a random Twitter bozo.

Excited to see him back in the lineup. Having Lyubushkin, McCabe and Benoit, teams better start to worry when skating into our zone.
I hear board sounds.

Now that's a good takedown lol.

Rielly plays offense more like a 4th forward so he needs a partner who can play ALL the D. So ofcourse Boosh offense numbers are better with Rielly and Rielly’s d numbers look better with a d man like Boosh
Away from Boosh the O zone start rate for Mo shoots up which inflates the shot based metrics and the scoring differences. Riellys numbers look better away from Lyubushkin.

For some context, 5 on 5 Boosh had 20 D zone faceoffs beside Mo. For the rest of his ES minutes beside all other players, Mo had 1 D zone faceoff. Boosh played 2 1/2 times as much as all other D with Mo and had 15 O zones starts to the others 13. If we want the stats to be closer we would need to use them the same way. I think SK is a better coach than in 2021 so we will see if he uses the guy more successfully.

The answer is on a good day he is a #2 and on a bad day is a really good #3, most leaf fans wouldn't know what a #1 d-man is if it bit him in the ass. We've been told for so long Morgan is a #1 that we have lowered our standards. Makar is a #1, Hughes is a #1, Hedman is a #1, Heiskanen is a #1, Morgan is not a #1. Morgan can for short stretches play like a #1 against teams having off nights but he is not nor has he ever been a true #1.

Morgan is a #1. Is he an elite one? Absolutely not. The difference between him and Makar, Hughes, Hedman and Heiskanen is the Morgan is not a FRANCHISE #1.

That is a world of difference. There are only a few true franchise defenceman in the league but, technically speaking there are a minimum 32 #1's.

Morgan slots in the lower third of those but he is one nonetheless.

Morgan is not even a 3rd pairing d-man in his own end, he is a guy who plays at a high level from the center line in only, #1's raise their linemates, not sure Rielly ahs ever done this in his 12 years. Can anyone name a dman who had a career year playing with Rielly?

Ummm, most of them? That's why we can't afford to keep them when they leave and get a fat bag elsewhere.

Can you name a true top pairing defenceman the organization has ever given Morgan to play alongside?

In an 11 year career, Morgan Rielly's best D partners are TJ Brodie playing his off side, Ron Hainsey, Luke Schenn for 30 games and Ilya f***ing Lyubushkin. What a joke
Blame Dumbass and that Tavares albatross of a contract.

Why are people fixating on advanced stats this year, we know the player, we know exactly what he can bring. Could care less what he stats are on a dogshit team, again we know exactly what he is.
Some leaf fans need to beat themselves on the head. They are doing all this Tre-loathing because they think this is the one and only deadline pickup.

Just wait until next week. Then give us your report card.

Boosh is not a distant memory.

Also, we don't have much to offer really, everyone else I read understands, except here apparently.

Boosh may be a plan B in case hes unable to find a top 4 rhd.for rielly.

Rielly Rhd
Brodie Boosh
Benoit Mccabe

Then why were Rielly's numbers so much better with virtually every other defenseman than Lyubushkin?

Most of those stats are fairly similar - the outliers are the ones in the 60s none of which I remember being played all that much with Rielly at any point (except Holl for periods), so I’d wager the sample is just small for Rielly-Muzzin and Rielly-Gio.

It's a failure on all of them. Lou was here for three seasons and also couldn't acquire anybody worthwhile, and Mark Hunter's drafting was dogshit to the point where he had 30+ picks to work with and the only players he hit on were lottery picks and first rounders.

Brodie... he was Gio's partner the year Gio won the Norris... that's a pretty good resume. Point remains true #1 raises the performance of their partners not make life harder on them. Rielly in every way does not think the defensive game well. Watch him tonight skate himself into a corner in his own end or give the puck away in a panic to get the puck out or play hot potato when he can figure out how to get the puck out of his own end, I can make that statement with confidence because he does that every game. Not a coincidence that Brodie had his best 5 game stretch this year when Rielly was suspended. Rielly should be a #3 on the 2nd line. In the other teams end he is a star, in his end he is a black hole.

I wonder if we could target Connor Murphy from Chicago. Big, physical D who can play top 4 minutes and is under contract for next season. My only issue with him is his injury history.
Is his 'injury history' any worse than that of Tanev? And Tanev, with his massive list of injuries, was a want on here so bad. I'm glad Dallas did us a huge favor by picking him up.
