And since we’re looking to upgrade on Names, I don’t really see the point?
If the Jets are looking at Laughton, I'm not looking at it as necessarily to be an upgrade on Names, or even to initially take Names's spot. I would think they are looking at him because he would bring utility and depth to the middle 6, and then move someone like Appleton down to the 4th where the team can have depth with Apples, Iafallo, Barron on the wing, and Kupari and Gus in the middle.

He also only has a cap hit of 3M, and another year as well so it gives the Jets some wiggle room next year to possibly let both Appleton and Iafallo go (with the cap going up those players will likely make more than 3M).

Pagnotta on WST saying he's heard two schools of thought for the Jets approach for the TDL.

1) More depth/utility type add(s)

2) Last few days, there has been steam they'd look for F/D with term. Which position just depends on opportunity cost. Willing to pay up for term if a deal presents itself and has heard Colby Barlow's name floated around recently.

Again, FWIW, Pagnotta nearly never gets anything right with the Jets, lol.

Big takeaway for me is Barlow's name being thrown around, which makes sense if the Jets have concerns about his development path and future with the org. Would make a lot of sense to salvage some value and move him out for a piece that helps now, if that's the case.

Laughton would be the 7th most productive Fwd on the team, and adds C versatility. Also, his scoring per TOI rate is quite good this year.

For a 1st no chance.

But >top 50 pick I wouldn't hate it. He'd be an upgrade on most of the bottom 6ers.

I watched that and it just seemed he was covering all basis lol

If Barlow's name is out there, and if they do move him, I personally don't immediately jump to the conclusion that it's because the org has concerns about him.

It could be because the org is firmly not willing to move Yager and Salo (rightly so), and possibly Lambert, and of the next group of prospects he might have the most value. Could be nothing more than a "have to give to get" situation.

Laughton or Frederic or preferably Rakell...guys who can play up and down the lineup, fill holes. But not if the cost is too high.

On defense I don't know if there's a needle-mover out there.

Any prospect winger with top 6 potential or style of play may be looking on the outs in the medium term. To qualify though, a recent 1st like Barlow I would not trade for a rental.

I don't have a qualified opinion on Barlow as I do not watch him, however he strikes me more of a top 6 or nothing guy whereas a player like Chibrikov can have grinder/agitator versatility suited for a lower role.

3/4 top 6 wing spots I think you can label pretty good certainty they'll be here for a while (Connor, Vilardi, Perfetti). And Ehlers I think they're hopeful he'll re sign, but who knows. If he's back too, where does Barlow fit in the next 3-5 years? May be more beneficial to use him as a trade chip, but like I mentioned, wouldn't do it for a rental, and the rental market stinks anyway in terms of higher end players.

Based on previous transactions, the Jets seldom trade out of prospects who don't want out of here (ie: not including Mcgroarty, Gawanke or N. Smith).
Think you can count on one hand the names they traded for upgrades. It's usually picks.

Rasmus 3rd, Gus 4th. We have a deep team and have nice players that we can plug in from the Moose.
Kupari isn't a sustainable solution at 3c I think. Having a player like Laughton who can at 3W, and then 3C if required would be beneficial.

Not giving up a first for Laughton and we don't have a 2nd which they apparently don't want. As for Kupari it's not a forever spot for him but rather if something happened to Vladdy and Lowry moved up a spot.

Well said, DRW,

I am not necessarily ready to throw in the towel on Barlow, but I am not opposed to moving him in the right deal, whatsoever. Especially if we are talking about getting a piece with term back and solidified within this roster.

I think while he has some interesting qualities which we lack in the pipe, namely that shot/goal scoring ability, but the organizational depth really matters as you said.

The pro roster is going to be extremely tough to crack at W in the top six - even if Ehlers signs or not - but Barlow also suffers from positional flexibility behind Yager and Lambert in the prospect pool.

Obviously the Jets would love for one (if not both) those guys to take the reigns being a C, but they know full well that if they don't, they both have the ability to kick to the wing and be top six contributors in the future.

You would have to think that factors into Chevy's outlook moving forward.

I wouldn't move a 1st for Laughton. A late 2nd, or future one, sure. Kupari and Gus are 4th line players. Maybe not even regulars on a PO team post tdl.
The Jets 3rd line fwd is a high leverage spot so would want players better than those two.

All thing being equal with Lowry's line intact I see no need for Laughton. Even though they wont score in bunches Arniel seems to love that line and they do what he wants for a third line so I see no spot for him.

Those two players have 20 points combined over the last two seasons…
And I suspect either would have quite a few more if they were centreing guys like Perfetti, Ehlers, Iafallo, Nino, etc. over the past two seasons...

I'm not sold on us chasing some rando third liner.

I think we have solid depth and some pretty versatile players. Perfetti or Vilardi could play C if called upon...Ford, Lambert or Toninato could be slotted in if needed...and Lowry and Kupari could be moved up the lines if required.

For every TDL that brought us a Stastny, it seems there have been 3-4 that brought us guys that messed with the chemistry, took opportunities from prospects, and lost us draft picks.

The 1st for Laughton would have to include the statue they will build for him, dino Torts LOVES him :)

Flyers have 3 1sts and 3 2nds this year already, i'd prefer a young player.

AI shit on my team more than anyone, but he would add some physicality to Jets, can still play center and is a darn good PK guy.

Lowry at 2C with Laughton as 3C wouldn't be the worst case going into the playoffs, could match up defensively vs anyone.

My hope is Hot Rod puts up another 4 goal game this Saturday LOL

I look at Dallas acquiring Granlund, and he's not even playing center for the Stars, he's on the wing with Duchene. Wyatt Johnston has bounced around he's the #3 C currently. Jamie Benn takes draws too but he's a little too slow for center.

I think an injury to a middle 6 center on the Jets would definitely give the Stars the advantage in that position. Kupari hasn't been that impressive, just holds the fort. I think he's ideally a more limited minute player like Sam Steel, the Stars #4 C.

If the Jets win a round in the playoffs good chance the next round goes through Dallas, and I think that's where Chevy is looking.
