Leafs are top 10 in hits this season so far, ranking #6 in that category. At #2 are the Panthers, #3 the Bruins, the Rangers at #7, and the Lightning at #9. These are all potential playoff matchups in either round 1 or 2 and suffice to say any series with these teams will be a slobberknocker. Boosh would rank fourth on our team for hits and plays a physical game. Now of course if this doesn't work out and we're first round fodder again this will seem like a waste (again), but it doesn't hurt to add extra muscle that can step in.

In any case, really hope we can add one more impact defenseman with term. This is a desperation move but newsflash, we are desperate. Management doesn't want to lose the season so this is what it is.

I like for the use of the word slobberknocker. Well played sir

3 things i get from this.

1. keefe obviously had an influence in this trade
2. boosh is a bigger leader in the lockerroom than we thought
3. our defensive depth just got tougher

That's not how I remember him in the playoffs. He certainly wasn't a liability. We deserved to win that series.
We lost the series we should have won and then reversed it the next year...We literally played the way Montreal beat us in '21 and fluked off the win last year IMO....just opportunistic with our point shots...we got hemmed in a lot compared to the year before. Let's see how Boosh does this go around...but Reilly doesn't need anything more than a safety net...so we should be good.

Lighten up and enjoy the sport.

Been saying this for years!

Not saying that the team/players/management can't be criticized, just saying that sitting back having some refreshments and enjoying the game is a lot better and healthier than obssessing about how much disgust you can muster and reiterate the same tired point again and again using the same words over and over.

As long as Lube isn't used in the first pairing game in game out, it's a good start for Tre'.

I like but dont love this. His playstyle compounds Benoit as well as McCabe. Opponents will have to keep their head up. We probably use that additional cap space for something else but why 75% cap retention? It’s only a 6th but still.

The big win is for Sammy. Pretty sure he and Boosh and their wives spent Christmas together last year when Boosh was in Buffalo
My hope, which is probably unrealistic, is that Tre limited the cap hit so he could regain some draft capital by taking on a cap hit to facilitate some other team's trade. I know, very unlikely to happen.

In an ideal world, we get a number two defenseman or a co. number one with Rielly whom you'd pay the premium draft capital (what's left of it) and prospect and whatever else to make it happen, and he's a medium to long term solution. A guy like Brodie has been declining, is increasingly an odd fit, so he might be moved out for cap space to make it happen this deadline. But those are complicated moves and I get the sense it won't be that loud of a deadline. That project will probably be left till the summer, when they could let Brodie walk and maybe pursue a Brett Pesce.

We all know that Benoit looked so bad on that team that they decided to walk away from him they will not have to fix him a competent team around him and some rope and I think makes us better

I would love for Tre to trade for Makar but that didn't happened.

Honestly, Boosh will be a good mix with the current group as he offers size, PK and toughness on the blueline.
Considering the price that Flames was asking, would rather have Boosh than Tanev.
Lets face it, even with Tanev, the Leafs will only go as far as AM, MM, Willie and Reilly take them. If AM and MM combined for ONE goal in a series again, it really doesn't matter if Tre trade for any Dman.

I don’t think it is unlikely at all, was thinking the same thing mate.

Still remember going to the Leafs versus Panthers game 2 seasons ago and watching Boosh totally destroy them in the d zone. We won 5-1 I think. You need to see the games live to realize the effect he has. They come through the neutral zone into our zone differently when he's on the ice.

On our team he will have a specialized role, so most likely exceeds expectations.

Boosh, Benoit, and McCabe are solid d-men for the trenches in a platoff series

These aren’t the soft Leafs of years past.
Yep, these guys aren't killers exactly, but they all will "take your head off" if it is offered. The effect this has on teams relying on zone entries kind of makes teams dump and chase turning every rush into 50/50 pucks

This guy couldn’t be a Leaf fan. The words he uses when referring to the Leafs defence and Treliving are truly repugnant and downright nasty. I understand disagreeing with the moves, but this guy seems to be really disturbed. He should stop writing about the Leafs, it just isn’t healthy.

From Reilly, a professional hockey player unlike any of us, I was unhappy when he left, his type are needed here:

Rielly is excited for the defenseman's arrival. Not just because he adds a boost to the group, but because he knows exactly what's he's getting out of a defensive partner.

"He’s physical. He was one of those guys that you like being around," Rielly said. "He’s competitive. He puts the team first with how he plays and how he acts. He’s just one of those guys you like having on your team."

Count me in the ‘like it, don’t love it crowd’. Cost is okay, fills needs, didn’t empty the cupboards.

One thing I like about Boosh is that he has the nickname and playstyle to actually encourage fan participation during games. It’s like an empty arena in there too often. But that’s just an aside.

Maybe there’s another addition incoming…but as is, I can see two fluid pairings among the three.

I can see Reilly and Brodie on separate pairs and Lili/Boosh alternating between them depending on circumstance. Lili and Reilly paired if you need some offence. Benoit and McCabe stay together.

I think one thing this deal shows is that money in/money out isn’t on the table too much and there’s not much appetite for moving forwards with term (Kampf or Jarnkrok, for example). Or that it doesn’t make much sense at the moment.

A couple other things:
A) the anti-Dubas crowd are insufferable
B) I don’t for the life of me understand the anti-Liljegren movement. Guy is good now, just hitting his stride, and has loads of skill.

^This. After the sky stopped falling last night and I realized this probably wasnt the clubs last move. I also figured out the defense now has the capability of tenderizing opposition forwards if required, If this is Keefes real scheme then the team can show something they have not been able to since the Burke years because this isn't a plodder defense group.

Sometimes the devil you know is better than the devil you don’t. Seems to apply here.

Too many fake Leafs fans.

Only good thing about American Major markets is they don’t f*ck around with the homerism.

This dude would be out of a job so quick.
This was an article written by Dubas fan, or a Leafs Rival.

Bettman Hockey encourages us to subsidize crappy teams and even low brow soon to be destitute, 10th grade writers.

It’s true what they say. Everyone’s a Leaf fan even the haters. This guys a soulless sellout who for sure is a cuc* wishing he wasn’t employed by the Leafs teet to feed his family.

Pfffttt.
