How did he add salary?
He took a salary arbitration eligible player that was likely or is likely to make more than kerfoot or Holl and lost that player instead of a salary that was possibly Kerfoot. He covered his a$$ as to not have nothing for the Kadri trade. The snowball just keeps going eh

Tampa's advantage is their individual guys play with more toughness man to man. So if we're trying to simplify this concept and say Tampa has a nice 70%-30% skill to toughness ratio throughout their forward group, everyone's chipping in a little feistiness, defensive play, grit grind, etc. In the end what you have is a convergence of high end guys who will grind it up, and grind it up guys who can chip in a little high end skill.

Our problem is our high end talent doesn't necessarily bring any toughness, so on a capped out budget, the GM has to dumpster dive on window dressing maturity and toughness to get the same 70%-30% ratio. Problem there is the skill is just skill and the grind is just grind so you never have the right mix of both in any player on any unit with consistency.

I tend to think that TB has skilled players that will play with some grit because they usually have a guy on the ice playing with them that has it in abundance. That makes players with skill play a bit bigger because they have back-up out there. The difference with our "Grit" guys is there is just 1 really (Simmonds) and he plays on the 4th line most of the time for less than 10min a game...he can't back up anyone in scrums when he's on the bench.

You need grit that can play a half decent game for it to blend in well as you stated in your post.

Let stressful if you expect the worst and hope for the best. That is my what I am going with next season.
I made a promise to myself i was not watch anymore until these clowns running this are gone. I like Keefe. The rest can beat it. They embarrassed themselves and the fans enough for my liking. They are complete failures.
Screwed us 5 years now and then our players choke out like wilting flowers with a 3-1 lead. It’s on the players too. These guys want to keep going the way it is. Really eh ha
I fully expect the worst. Save myself the aggravation and waste of time suits me better ;)

I wonder if the Blues would eat half of Tarasenko's salary to move on from him at this point. Assuming he is healthy I'm thinking a three team trade:

To Stl:
Engvall- fills Hoffmans spot for cheap, already have Buch from the Rangers to fill Tarasenko's spot.
Dermott - replaces Dunn
Assets from Ottawa for Kerfoot

To Tor:
Tarasenko @50%

To Ottawa:
Kerfoot - Gives them a center that makes $750k this season (bonus already paid)

-We would still need to then replace Kerfoot and add some D-men to support Sandin and Liljegren but I think the upgrade on the top line would be worth it. Tarasenko-Matthews-Marner.

I think Schwartz and Granlund are possible options. That being said if neither work out at the right price I could see the leafs getting creative and adding a right wing then pushing Nylander to the left side.

McGinn is not the answer to our LW but I feel we can get him cheap and he will out perform the contract. He can also be on the PK so would also help in that department.
Good points sire. Some otha fool also recommended him in our lineup threads and free agency threads and he was a winner too  Him and coleman would kill in toronto. We needs to get our killas hard. Another solid, cool, ok goalie, who bout that cheap paper. Also eh uh, some fool d-guy who weights a ton and lifts a ton too. We need gym freaks, they stoned, but still cool, like some gangstas. I know some gangstas who only train behind their house, backyards. They some tough mothers I'll tell y'all.

3 options I was playing around with on Capgeek, noticed that it seems like its either a new 3C or go with a better top LW. If we do a new 3C and kerfoot is the new LW then we have some more room for a better goalie... we have options but I see we should trade Engvall and maybe Mikheyev better cheaper options out there for what they bring

I’m hoping for Erik Haula flanked by Kerfoot and Mikheyev on the 3rd line.

One of the top-6 LWs should be atrade acquisition like Lawson Crouse, Jordan Greenway, TJ Miller, or Warren Foegee. The other top-6 LW should be a bargain signing like Michael Bunting or Alex Galchenyuk.

Sign a #5 D, a #4 C, and a goalie partner for Campbell.

Hopefully, maybe something like…
Galchenyuk-Matthews-Nylander
Greenway-Tavares- Marner
Kerfoot-Haula-Mikheyev
Simmonds-Kuraly-Spezza

Rielly-Brodie
Muzzin-Holl
Cole-Liljegren

Campbell
Halak

Galchenyuk Matthews Marner
Kerfoot Tavares Nylander
Foligno Getzlaf Perry
Engvall Spezza Simmonds
Brooks

Muzzin Hamilton
Rielly Brodie
Sandin Holl
Hutton Liljegren

Campbell
Halak

Not a bad line-up I don't really like Galchenyuk on the first line.... but we are where we are, I think the trade route might be bit rich and we don't have a lot of assets atm

Yeah, we’ve gotta go cheap on at least one of the top-6 wingers. Not ideal, but that’s the only way to keep Kerfoot.

For trade, I tried to look at guys who could possibly be had for something like Dermott + Engvall + a prospect.

I’m hoping Robertson can be that cheap winger and Galchenyuk in the mix also. I want our prospects to have a fair shot to fight for minutes. Worst case we add reinforcements at the TDL

Perry is exactly the vet this team needs. Nobody on this team ever be nominated for the Lady Byng trophy again

we need better depth and a pp solution.

i would target the following in order.

armia, very underated , 200 foot player with huge size. He player anywhere in the top 9.

grandlund/huala or bonino for 3rd line center depth.

hoffman, our powerplay solution. Our powerplay is predictable because we only have 1 shot threat. even our D has garbage shots. Easily fixed by getting the best sniper available and i don't think it will cost that much. YES he sucks defensively but playing with our top 6 who can cover up. He is also 500 times better than gally offensively and defensivly lol
