which UFA LW should the Leafs target in free agency?

I don't know if he's physically broken or not but I have a feeling Schwartz might slip through the UFA cracks a bit and he was one of the best players for STL during that cup run.

Have been a fan of Schwartz for a while. His offensive output is pretty streaky but his overall effort is always there and for a smaller guy he’s not afraid to go into dirty areas.

What kind of contract do you think he’d get this off-season?

Trade for Bertuzzi
Sign Joel Armia for Hyman role
Sign Shwartz if you can for cheap
Sign Sean Kuraly or Jordan Martinook for 4th line LW

* Assuming Kerfoot taken by Seattle. Engvall also traded away for a pick of some sort

Bertuzzi - Mathews - Marner
Armia - Tavares - Nylander
Schwartz - McCann - Mikheyev
Kuraly/Martinook - Spezza - Simmonds

This is what I’m hoping to see for our forward group.

Schwartz - Matthews - Nylander
McCann - Tavares - Marner
McGinn - Roy - Mikheyev
Simmonds - Brooks - Spezza

factor in what players are being paid for perspective before complaining about players...........

I think thats the whole point of the original post. Hyman will be paid about half of Marner as early as next week.

Logic: 0 goals in... how many games? For how much more? I'm sure you know that.

I'm not even a Marner hater...

Ya, that sniper Marner cant put the puck in the net....

Im all aboard the trade Marner train, but criticizing his goal scoring is odd...

Armia, isn't playing above Schwartz

Doesn't matter. Sure sitch it up. I just think Tavares needs a type of player who plays a big body game and retrieves pucks.

But regardless, these are the type of players they need to be targeting. Look at how Tampa won a cup.

Big Boys like Palat, Killorn, Goodrow, Maroon are all on the left side. Leafs got a long way to go

This looks pretty good to me . I might flip Schwartz and Armia but not much to complain about.

Come on man don't be that thick. You know exactly what I'm criticizing.

At least Tampa is losing Goodrow for Sure and most Likely one of Palat/Killorn or Gourde. They will take a hit size and skill-wise.

If we run pretty much the same team back it won't matter as we cant hang with a depleted Tampa group with the same losers as this year being on the team, but if we make big additions at forward and Tampa loses Palat/Kilorn + Goodrow + Coleman and finds their younger guys aren't as good as expected we might be able to beat them in a series

Edit: I guess you said might. It just feels pretty pie in the sky when we are comparing back to back champs to haven’t won a series since I can’t even remember

Coleman would closely replicate what Hyman did. He’s a better scorer, but not as good on the forecheck or at retrieving pucks. He might be better defensively.

Saad is a super simpler complimentary player. Up and down the wing. Plays his defensive position responsibly. Good finisher, but not creative.

Schwartz is probably the most interesting. At his best, he’s a harder working and grittier version of Nylander. He’s has an unreal shot.
Ya I like Schwartz a lot. Really think he would thrive in the top 6. Probably too expensive for Toronto though
