Nikita Filatov had 4 goals in his first (and only, that year) 8 NHL games. 2 in 13 was his followup season.

Not that I seriously believe that Baertschi will be the next Filatov... but making such a prediction is about as valid and probable as assuming he'll get over 60 points. (To say nothing of 90! Good lord, folks.) The NHL is a tough place to play, y'know - and circumstances change as folks start paying more attention to you.

Obviously the people predicting ridiculously high numbers are just having a laugh along with this thread.

But the Filatov comparisons aren't fair. Filatov was known for being lazy. Baertschi is the complete opposite.

I think regardless of the numbers Sven puts up next year, we're going to see progression from him, and Flames fans will still be very high on him.

Just a question how Filatov look defensively in the nhl?

Much like Baertschi, he's not in the NHL at the moment, so one can't really say. ;)

Filatov's never been "lazy". He is, however, apparently uncoachable. That said, my intention was not to claim that Baertschi would fail for the same reasons as Filatov, or even that he would fail at all. I was just suggesting that expectations be tempered maybe just a teeny tiny bit. I have nothing against Sven - heck, before we traded the 8th overall he was the guy I was hoping we'd get. :)

If y'all want an actual prediction from me, I'd say about 35-45 points, with the chance to go higher if he finds good chemistry off the bat with someone.

Really like the kid, even though he's a Flames prospect. I think a 45-55 point season would be pretty darn good.

I'm the same way. I got to watch him be a one man wrecking crew against the Oil Kings. It's too bad for Portland that they were a one line team in the WHL finals because if anyone other than Bartschi and Rattie showed up, they would have been in the Memorial Cup. I'll be honest. I was nervous every single time he was on the ice. He's a special player and if you disagree...you haven't seen him play.

The Flames fan above thinks he's going to be on the 3rd line. No offense but you either have way to much faith in your team or you don't know what you have. Bartschi is going to be your 1st line left winger and he's going to score 20+ goals/50+ points playing with Iginla.

Wouldn't be shocked at all if he scored 25 goals and had 55 points.
I feel the same way. Not that I think he's any sort of lock to hit these numbers, but I think he has a decent shot. I see him as one of the early favourites for the Calder next season, and those are fairly standard Calder-type numbers. He's a lot like Jordan Eberle IMO, not necessarily a guy who stands out with crazy speed/size, but he's just a totally natural skater, puck handler and shooter with a really high hockey IQ. He has a very mature, polished game, he's also a pretty hard worker and strong on the puck, to me he just seems very NHL ready, a guy who will make an impact at the NHL level immediately. If he stays healthy and stays in the NHL all season I'll be pretty surprised if he doesn't hit at least 35 points, and I could see him scoring quite a lot more than that.

Not sure I'd go quite that far, as Cammy, Tanguay and Glencross are all pretty good, and all natural LWs (though I think at least 1 will switch to RW). I can see Bartschi starting on the 3rd line, then making his way into the top 6 if one of Calgary's top wingers (Iggy/Cammy/Tanguay/Glencross) gets injured and/or struggles.

I thought Cammalleri was a center. If he's playing the wing then I take that back. If not then I think Bartschi is on their first line. I'll be honest, I don't have a ton of faith in a 33 year old Tanguay. I think Bartschi can match his stats playing with Iginla as a rookie.

60-70 points about, does that sound right, but still, Calgary is going dead last

Ya the first overall pick almost always wins the calder the next year.

Like how Ryan Nugent Hopkins beat out Gabriel Landeskog for it this year.
Or how Taylor Hall beat out Jeff Skinner for it last year.
Or how John Tavares beat out Tyler Myers the year before.
Or how Steven Stamkos beat out Steve Mason the year before that.

Tavares plays on the Islanders, enough said. Stamkos received limited playing time, mostly thanks to Rick Tocchet.

Don't forget, he really is a young kid. Even if he impressed last season, he will have to adapt to the next level. With 3rd line-minutes i don't see him make 50 points. Maybe around 30-35.

So Baertschi scored 3 goals in his 5 first NHL games.

But, isn't he more of an assister than a scorer ??
in whl
61 assists, 33 goals 94 pts in 47 games regular season. 1/3 goals, 2/3 assists.
20 assists, 14 goals 34 pts in 22 games in playoffs. 2/5 goals, 3/5 assists.

but in NHL 1/1 were goals.

I believe that he had little chemistry with the Flames ... therefore he only scored.
(1 or 2 goals where he assisted were ... not goals after the referee checked on the vid.)
We are in the obscurity in forecasting his points.

60 points 25/35 would be awesome for me ... yet it wouldn't surprise me to see more.
it wouldn't surprise me to see him injured (he is still small and young) and score like 30 points in like 45 games played.
