Another Russian prospect that was saved because of NOT being a great prospect at 16-17.

Currently only those Russians who are not noticed by scouts at 16-17 have any chance of becoming elite players.

This may be deceiving since he has been on the #1 PP unit with Hartikainen and Omark. As long as he stays on that PP the points will come in abundance.

Around six of his 24 points have come on the powerplay (very lazy count, someone can correct if they have better numbers) so it is a factor, but not really disproportionately so.

Give it a rest, man.

Do you think his game would transfer to the NHL, or would he be better off with another year in the KHL? Speed and strength are usually the biggest factors, but if he doesn't play a decent two way game it could be a problem too.

I personally think, he's already NHL ready, but another year in the KHL won't harm his development. He's already played 120 regular games in the KHL. It's full 2 seasons, so you can call him a seasoned pro.

He has one year left in the 2015 khl contract. We need to beat the KHL salary with ELC in 2018 summer. Not optimistic.

He can buy his KHL contract out next summer, but I doubt he'll do it, because ELC money isn't enough for this. But as soon as his contract over, he'll come to the NHL, i.e. in 2018.

I'm guessing he will get more TOI next year, allowing him to work on his stamina. As much as Wild fans are impatient for the next Gaborik, it makes more sense to let him develop on another team's dime. If he has a good year next year also, hopefully he'll hit the ground running in the NHL and won't have to spend much time in the AHL.

Can someone please put in context for me how Kaprizov's 19 year old season stacks up against other stud young Russian players at the same age in previous years? 30 points as a 19 year old seems impressive to me but how does it compare to Kuznetsov, Tarasenko, Malkin or others?

You can use this link to find best KHL seasons for U20 players: link. It is only for KHL though, so Malkin and Ovechkin aren't there, as they've played their U20 seasons in the pre-KHL era.

Even more impressive than his points are his penalty minutes. Except for some lunatic called Ryspayev - 7gp 0g 0a 83 PIM - KK is already way ahead in PIM for u20's and there is plenty of season left! Sure he isn't part Canadian?

Yep, not that Kaprizov couldn't contribute in 2017-18, but let him play another season in KHL and the Wild should be very happy with the player that comes over for 2018-19.

Kaprizov doesn't avoid contact, but 50 of his PIM are from two game misconducts vs Magnitka. One was called checking from behind and another spearing. You can judge those majors for yourself.

The "spearing" wouldn't even get called in the NHL, and the checking from behind would be a minor penalty. I'm guessing, after seeing several of these videos, that the KHL is much stricter in its enforcement of the rules than is the NHL, yes?

I believe he said he wanted to come over for training camp next season, right? Is there a possibility that if he makes the final cut, he stays with the Wild instead of returning? If so, is there any precedent for an NHL team buying out a players KHL contract in order to get them onto the team?

Yes, there is, and the name escapes me. Kovalchuk?

If he knocks everyone on their ass at training camp, then maybe, but I think the wisest thing is to let him develop in the KHL next year. There should be more spots open in 2018-19, as Koivu's contract will be done. Parise ...who knows, and Pominville will be either bought out or playing fourth line.

I'm hoping that Tuch and Ek will make the team next year. They are the type of players that we hope will play top 6, but if they don't will slot in fine in the bottom six. Kaprizov we want playing in the top 6, or at least in the top 9. Don't want to see him on the 4th line.
