I saw all of his games this year and I can say he isn't any slower or especially weaker than Kucherov. I mean guy is 5'11 and weighs 192 lbs, he's pretty stocky and he's strong on his skates, which allows him to be competitive even against khl vets. Both kids are all around offensive talents with incredible nose for the net. He'll be ok, that's for sure.

Kaprizov is bizarre. Not a great shot. Not a great size. Not fast or great skater.

Kind of stocky. Racks points like a beast.

If he improves his skating and forecheck, Parise is a great comparable.

23rd in KHL scoring for forwards.

Tied 6th for KHL 5v5 goal scoring.

Parise was fast( still is pretty quick) when he was younger.

Kaprizov is a great skater, not sure why you think he isn't.

OK, that's the first time I've heard it said he is a great skater. I thought he was just alright.

BTW, how common is it for KHL player's contracts to get bought out by NHL teams holding their rights?

Gaudreau isn't the fastest skater, does it mean he's just an ok skater?

Well, STL gave Lehtera a bonus, so he could buy his contract out. The problem is it's impossible to give a bonus to ELC player. And I'm not sure it's allowed by NHL rules to buy players for money, even from other leagues.

Pretty sure that it was mentioned he needed work on his edges, and that he wasn't particularly fast.

Gaudreau not fast? Well, maybe not McDavid fast, but he is fast, and he is exceptionally quick, with superb agility. He is a fantastic skater. If Kaprizov is anything approaching him as a skater he'll be fine.

It's often overlooked how important skating is as the basic skill that matters most in the NHL. Almost all of the greats were great skaters, and now even 4 th liners can skate. The minor leagues are filled with guys who were star scorers, but are just too damn slow, or have some other flaws in their skating.
Most Europeans are better skaters than your average NA player when it comes to skating, but recent experience with Pulkkinen( mediocre skater) and Granlund(has worked hard to be average) has made me wary of taking anything for granted.

Well, in Salavat games I watched, Kaprizov's skating looked in many ways similar to Panarin's. Alas, there are no good Kaprizov's videos, so I've found this Panarin's video, because it looks similar enough to what I saw from Kaprizov.

Is it good or bad skating?

You brought up Parise an hour ago. I actually really like that comparable.

I meant that if Kaprizov significantly improves his skating, his upside might be around Parise.

Parise's skating as a 19yo is irrelevant. Prime age Parise is the measuring stick, not the prospect being evaluated.

=> Thus my comment.

There is bunch of his goals here:

Copy "Капризов" to the left side box, 3rd from the top. The "Игрок" box.

The press the lowest blue rectangle in the left menu. Says "HaNTN"

It's good, though I would argue that is more of a puck handling exhibition. More to the point is that if he receives a stretch pass in full flight and he is neck and neck with an average NHL Dman can he turn on the jets enough to turn the corner and get a decent scoring opportunity?

On our team, Haula and Zucker can, easily, and Coyle can. Parise, when he's healthy. Ek can. Staal, surprisingly. Pominville can't anymore. Our two Finns can't though they have skills that might help them get a shot.

Vanek:laugh:

 It's good, but the fact it's kind of a different guy makes that video less than relevenat in assessing Kaprizov's skating. No, he's not a great skater (though he's improving nicely), and he's not as good as Panarin, easy there. Kuznetsov is a great skater. Younger Parise, who was brought up here, was a great skater. Kaprizov has become good, but not above that.

He doesn't really do that in the KHL, so...

Ehlers would be an example of a young player who had great wheels coming into the league.

I appreciate you guys having the patience to answer all of my questions. I'm curious, and very hopeful that Kaprizov can come to the Wild within the next couple of years and replenish our forward line that will have players like Koivu, Pominville, Staal, and Parise facing heavy decline due to age.

Both he, and Sokolov(admittedly a longer shot) seem to have the ability to pot goals, and that's ALWAYS important, I don't care what league you're in.
