Finnish posters seem to forget how good Matthews is. As far as I know Matthews is very balanced player who was able to produce at high ppg level In Swiss league. Laine had many off-games in regular season. Laine was kind of non-factor in those games. Yes he is producing at the moment in playoffs with the MVP of Finnish league Kuusela but he was not consistent in regular season. As far as I know Matthews was more often the best player in games this season. I would like to know more from posters who have seen Matthews play.

And you talk that Matthews cannot produce in playoffs. Well Matthews scored 3 points in the 4 games he played. Laine scored 1 point in the first 4 playoff games he played. Matthews did not get to show his skills in the playoffs because his team sucked. It is just pathetic that some finnish posters downplay Matthews because of Laine`s good play in playoffs.

NHL.com brought in a scout who watched Matthews play during the playoffs and he said he was the best player in 3 out of the 4 playoff games. Love seeing what Laine is doing but I can't help but ignore the posts that are so one-sided for either of these prospects.

Dominating liiga finals >>>>>>>>>> being the best player in 3 games of NLA playoff first round. They were heavy favorites in their league which has teams from top 35-50 in Europe. Laine dominated semifinals against current #2 in Europe and is again doing it in the finals against a great team. Zurich would have gotten steamrolled by karpat or hifk. Laine is making them look mediocre

In the grand scheme of things, where Laine or Matthews get drafted is going to matter for about... a day. After that, who cares? Then all that matters is how they perform in the NHL, not where they got drafted.

This. Matthews is good but for any argument on Matthews performance being great, there's a counter-argument for Laine having performed even better against better opposition.

North-Americans dont seem to get the difference between Liiga and NLA. It's like NHL vs KHL

All lines palying only trap now for Tappara, 1st line seperated. Not trying to score much now.

Yes you are correct. People are just tired of the ridiculous bias. Especially the stupid, stupid idea some north Americans have that the two leagues are relatively close in level. If Matthews had shown he is above, everyone would agree but Laine has really distanced himself from Auston in wjc and club

****, that was intense! Congrats to Laine. Lift that cup baby!!!!!

Yes, people are tired of the ridiculous bias. Is this post for real? What is going to happen when Matthews is drafted 1st? The NHL, scouts, everybody got it wrong?

WJC Champion,

Kanada Cup Champion.

Some one take highlight recording when he lifts it

First post on the forums. Well... I'm an IFK fan so obviously bummed about the loss in the finals. But on the upside, was fun and great to observe Laine in action (saw 2 games live too). Congrats to Tappara. Damn, this kid is so good. Laine for WHC please!

Playoffs MVP in liiga playoffs and he has just turned 18 year old. Most talented finnish player ever at his age.

Not even close. Game was already over when Zabo put the puck in from theblueline.

Laine gets the MVP award, well deserved.

It was "scored" from behind the goal by ramsted. The goalie said the buzzer played when he took the shot behind the net (and then it took few secs to go in)

That is an opinion, and I respect your right to it. Everybody has a voice here, no matter how qualified their opinion, and at the end of the day, what we posters on an internet forum come to as a consensus matters not at all. So far, the professional scouts, and ranking agencies view Matthews as a near consensus #1. After these playoffs, it is possible that there has been enough for that to change.. I can't personally tell.

I don't care either way who is ranked #1... though as a poor suffering fan of the Leafs, I hope it is a very relevant discussion very soon.

And he gets the playoff MVP, wow.

This has to be among the best performances by any 17 year old in the playoffs. Dare to say more impressive than McDavid's OHL playoff performance last year?
