Islanders made the right pick and he is the perfect fit. Like you, I'm excited to see what he can do. I hope he can make me look good and live up to my hype.

Definitely going to keep an eye on him.

The Isles will likely send him back to Oshawa for more development, is he likely to remain at LW since Cole Cassels will still be around to center him? I'm wondering if he isn't tried at center since Laughton will be gone.

I think that he will most likely stay on the wing. Really happy to hear he'll probably be back in Oshawa. I think that might be best for him. Let him work on his skating and defensive game while he dominates the OHL and plays in the WJC. Then after that, he'll be ready for the NHL.

Don't pin your hopes on him, he's a long shot to make it. If he does make it, won't be for a few years anyhow. Don't need him anyway, already have enough firepower.

Don't worry, we pin our hopes on John Tavares. ;)

The Isles have become quite patient in their prospect development. It's no surprise that players like de Haan, Strome, Nelson, and Lee had NHL success as they all have had at least 2+ years of steady development after being drafted. Unless MDC completely beasts it up in training camp + preseason + 9-game stint, he'll be sent back in Oshawa. The Isles seem to really like the Oshawa program so let them develop him and WJC experience will be great for him. Strome and Reinhart were stalwarts for Hockey Canada - I'd like MDC to get the same experience.

Re-assess his development at next year's training camp. If he pulls an Anthony Mantha type of season, then I don't think he'll be back in the 'Shwa for a 4th season. It's up to him.

You have been one of his biggest critics. I like the kid. He's confident but still very well spoken. I he doesn't have any other issues like being late to practice/team meetings than I don't care. He's outspoken and flamboyant not a criminal or a headcase.

His main issue is he doesn't play a responsible team game.

In rookie camp and training the isles will meet with him and they will tell him what they want him to work on improve on back in junior. He has to work on his decision making and defensive play. He turns the puck over a bit too much. And he has to learn that just because your gifted at handling the puck does not me you should over handle it. I'm confident he will improve in these areas within the next few years and become more of a complete player. That being said if he's scoring goals and setting them up than that's really the most important thing.

Ho-Sang is so selfish that he's even hogging the attention in the Dal Colle thread :sarcasm:

For real though, wherever the Isles 1st rounder ends up next year, they made the right choice in giving it to us. Dal Colle is going to be a good top 6 winger, and potentially a legit 1st liner. He should be that perfect fit for Tavares they've been looking for. Great shooting skills but he's also a capable playmaker. I actually ended up ranking him behind Nylander and Ehlers (and the standard top 4), but even if I turn out to be right, Dal Colle was likely the right selection due to fit.

I'm not sure about that, in the reports from the interviews when asked about how to play in a team structure, he didn't have a clue. Not to mention are the Isles really any good at developing their talent.

Last time I'm going to reply to you in the Dal Colle thread but he's expected to be a pro and prospects are investments and every pro team supports their prospects. One of the ways is rookie camps where they can learn how it is to be pros and what is expected of them.

To your last sentence, are the isles any good at developing? You tell me. You will say Bailey And Nino and I will say Hamonic Martin Lee Cizikas Okposo Nelson Strome de Hann.

All current islanders who are on the team and developed properly. Strome and Nelson in particular.

Gut feeling, unless he just dominates, it's highly unlikely we see Dal Colle in the NhL for another 2-3 years. Isles will bring him along similar to Strome Imo.

I'm not necessarily talking about rushing them into the NHL, I'm talking more on the direction they're getting about what they need to improve.

please send him back to oshawa. hes been my favourite ohl player since he was drafted. i used to play against him in his draft year which makes me feel kinda weird being a "fan" of him lol but hes still a great player

I think there's a good chance he will be back with Oshawa.

And how the hell do you know what "direction they're getting"?! You're just another Islander hater.... nothing of substance to add, just a quick fly through so you can get a couple shots in.

Is this perhaps the quietest 5th over-all pick in recent memory in terms of fan discussion?

How has he looked thus far Islander Fans?

Probably got lost in the Islander draft pick discussion because the other first rounder we took is a bit more noteworthy and a media darling(else we would be getting in fights with other teams fans who is better Dal Colle or some guy drafted below him). lol

How has he looked thus far Islander Fans?

I honestly can't give you a good opinion since I haven't seen much but seemed in the Ottawa game he played decently. All that being said he is taller then I was expecting but looks like he needs to add a few pounds.

As others have said, he's played in 1 game and it wasn't televised (there was a stream though, I believe). There haven't been a ton of TC reports on him either I think due to the fact that its pretty much a foregone conclusion that he's going back to Oshawa. There's simply no room on the roster right now with the Islanders having too many forwards as is (word on the street is that Strome could be sent down to BP) and MDC probably needing to add a few pounds.

He (and JHS) looked good in the prospect game over the summer, FWIW (not much, admittedly).

Thanks for the info! He is one of the prospects I most wanted to follow from the draft.

Dal Colle will be playing in Islanders final Pre Season game tonight, which will be broadcast on Islanders website. I am guessing he is back in the OHL by tuesday
