LW Matthew Boldy - Boston College, NCAA (2019, 12th, MIN)

For a newly 20-year old he is strong along the boards (he shrugged off various hits while protecting the puck), has soft hands (never watched him before), great hand-stick co-ordination, and a wickedly hard slapshot. Please don't rush him Wild.

He rang one off the post earlier in the game from almost exactly the same position. Also had a breakaway, and made numerous great setups that weren't converted by teammates. Seems to be equally at home passing or shooting. Also is more than holding his own in board battles. Certainly strong enough for the AHL, but needs to be stronger to play his game in the NHL. Not a speed merchant, not slow. Could improve balance in small areas.

Seems to have a high IQ, especially offensively. Tends to make the right play most of the time. You would think that he will get much better once he gets to know his teammates. Seems to be more of a complimentary player, in the best sense of the term, who will make those around him better, rather than a one man show. Interesting that he and Addison are playing so well together, especially on the PP. Might be seeing those two playing together for years to come in St. Paul.

Wouldn’t mind giving him a couple games in Fiala’s spot if he ends up being out for a bit. Would like him to get more seasoning in the AHL, but a few games won’t hurt.

Im sorry but that skating from Calen... Jesus christ, maybe the smoothest backwards skating sequence Ive ever seen.
he's got PP quarterback, offensive dynamo, defensive liability written all over him. what has happened to Wild hockey?

Lmao, sounds like Dumba when he was drafted, to be fair. Anyway, does it matter ? You guys will have a great team in no time, I believe, so much talent coming up.
Addison has nowhere near Dumba's physicality or shot. Seems to be less risky of a player than Matt was at the same age, though. I am not sure if Addison is a decent defender, or will need to be sheltered, or Brodin'ed, as we say in Minnesota. At worst, he will be a third pairing, PP QB, I think.

Boldy doesn't seem to need to have the puck on his stick very long, which is an attribute that will serve him well in the NHL. If he can improve his skating he I think he will become quite the player, and slot in as a wing besides either Kaprizov or Fiala. Given his IQ, I can see him adjusting to either.

Yeah I only meant Dumba had that defensive liability doubt going for him in 2012. I think you may be underselling Calen to be fair, I see definite top 4, if not top 2 upside there.

Boldys a beauty for sure, goalscorer version of Mark Stone was my comparison in 2019.

Yeah, I see Stone's sneaky good offensive hockey IQ and shot, too. Boldy will probably end up being a better skater, but don't know if he will ever be as tough as Stone. Both have really calm, quiet games.

Any team would be excited to have a Mark Stone on their team, but that's a lot to expect from Boldy.

Certainly has the look of a guy that could step into a top 9 role next year

Type of guy that can fit seamlessly on any scoring line you put him on with his size, hockey IQ, and shot. Sort of a jack of all trades scoring winger. Glad he was able to turn it around after a fairly dismal start to his college career last year. Was on my wish list at pick 10 for the Canucks.
