LW Matthew Boldy - Boston College, NCAA (2019, 12th, MIN)

Like his hands on the half wall and below goal line - quick one touch passes and seems quite accurate with backhand passes as well. First step is average and stops moving feet when has puck but see that quite a bit at that age. Puck protection seems pretty good and will likely get better as fills out/gets stronger.
I thought that too about the feeth that stop moving, he puts them wide and tries to outplay more with his hands. Feels a little like dubois before, his father and torts talked about it earlier in his career, got much better at it. i feel boldy has some similarities there. Obviously dubois is another type of physical specimen right now

You can't have Zegras at center with Caufield on the same line. At least not against the good teams.

Why not? Obviously they would need to be deployed properly and it's likely not a line you match up with a team's #1 line. That's what the proposed Turcotte or Beniers line would have to do.

So now you've got a line with your two best players that you have to worry about how and when to deploy because a third guy is bringing the line down? Yeah, that doesn't make a lot of sense.

Huh? Zegras and Turcotte are the two best players (on paper of course), and you saw how Russia was able to shut them down. I would like to see Zegras away from Turcotte. You're also acting like that line would be a complete liability defensively, which is far from the truth. I'm saying use Turcotte as your matchup center, and let Z's line play against whoever. It's quite clear that Kaliyev is bringing down that line anyhow, so I'm not sure what your point is. Doesn't make a lot a sense.

If you’re gonna create an all offense line that doesn’t play against the other teams top line Boldy won’t be on it, it would be Kaliyev-Zegras-Caufield.

Would probably be a terrible idea.

This guy gets it. Splitting up Z and Turcotte wouldn't make a line a complete defensive liability, but the line listed about probably would and I haven't seen one poster asking for that.

I’m getting really excited about him lately. Between him, Rossi, Kaprizov, and Fiala, it feels like we finally have respectable forwards in the system. Really like the direction we’re going.
He looks like he'll compliment the players you mention above very well also. He brings a pretty unique skill set.

Points dont reflect how good he's been in WJC he has been carrying his line I wish he could play on the top line and really showcase his talent. He's gonna be very good for sure I'd like to see him get a little bit meaner and bully people he's big and strong enough to do it

Really liked this player in the bubble WJC’s. He’s not the flying fancy (easy to notice) type, but he does all the dirty work really well, while being very skillful. His game will transition nicely to the National League. I see a top six winger, who will be harder to play against physically than some of the fancier guys on his US team.

Stone is a good comparison, I guess, but one comparison that only the oldest of HFB members will get is George Armstrong. Same strong two way game, and unflashy, smart offense.

If he turns into a Mark Stone I've got wood. However, even though I think he could be a selke-caliber winger, I don't think he'll be a point producer like Stone at the next level. Maybe as a complementary player with other play drivers, but otherwise I see him has more of a 60 point player. I would love to be wrong on that, though. Would like to see him improve his shot and skating a bit. Both have improved since last year, but he swings through his stride a little too much and doesn't have the best one-timer. He's 19, and I've gotta think those things come with time, though. Really happy with his development and being able to get him where we did at 12th. If Minnesota can get another top 6 center prospect and a future 1D in their prospect pool, they'll be scary going forward. And, with 2 firsts this year and Dumba likely getting moved at some point, I don't see that being too far away. Rebuild is going smoothly in Minnesota.

I've been a little down on his hockey sense the last few years, but I've been really impressed with it at this tournament. He's learning to simplify, which is what he needed to do. He's such a talented player. He's a little raw in that he's a big guy with great tenacity and unbelievable offensive skills, but in prior years I thought he tried to do too much. Now he looks fully ready to step into the NHL next season. He's such a talented player. I wouldn't even be surprised if he starts to keep improving. The Wild got this pick right. He's going to be one of the leaders of their next generation.

When he physically matures, he's going to be a puck possession beast, as he was here. His puck possession game reminded me of Jordan Greenway's performance at the WJC in 2017, except Boldy is also highly skilled and good defensively.
I made that exact comparison during the pre-tourney game, he was a monster at possession and did all the little things right, loved his game.

Fiala
Kaprizov
Boldy
Rossi

We might not be your older brother's Minnesota Wild for too much longer.
I think you can add Beckman to that list, even if he is maybe a tier behind these guys. Forward group for MIN is looking great going forward. They have become one of my favorite franchises to follow.

I think he'll be ready for the pros next fall. He has gotten much stronger, but a few more months of working out and eating will allow him to fill out even more( assuming he does these things), and perhaps work on explosiveness a bit more.

He might need a bit of AHL time, might not.

There was talk of BC playing him at Center. That might slow his development a bit.

I really like Boldy's game. He has a bit of Brady Tkachuk in his game .. although Boldy is more refined and a little less of a physical beast. Really good combination of skill and size and tenacity.

Its always fun to see a team trending up. This year should validate (or not) Fiala and Kaprizov's status. The next could be seeing Boldy and Rossi's level of play. It will still take a few more years with them to see exactly what you've got but it looks promising. So many teams seem to be seriously trending up young talent-wise. Ana, LA, NYR, Det, Car, Col, NJ, Ott, Van The next five years will be interesting.

I thought he had kind of a soft game when he was drafted, but either i was really wrong, or he has matured physically. I don't know that i would call him rugged, or nasty, but he sure seems to win a lot of puck battles, and doesn't get moved easily when in scoring areas. Just seems to be very low key. Sort of the anti-Zegras.
