LW Matthew Boldy - Boston College, NCAA (2019, 12th, MIN)

He's been great in his first 2 games back. Even without Newhook centering his line being at Canada's WJC camp, he's still been dynamite. His confidence is really high and playing awesome. He's become an absolute weapon on the PP. I would actually say his skating looks improved this year too, he seems to be a step quicker than last year. He still needs to improve defensively, had a couple hiccups Friday night where he sagged off assignments in the Dzone which resulted in goals but was much better in game 2.

There's always a question on how a winger will play without a high end playmaking center to set them up and I was interested to see how he'd play without Newhook to start and he answered a lot of questions in that regard. He carried the play, created his own chances and was really impressive this weekend

You didn't actually watch him much last year did you?

Pretty Good start for Boldy as he has 8 points (3+5) in his first 4 games this season before he leaves for WJC camp. Hopefully he makes the team! Shot looks good, he’s catching goalies a lot with that quick release and his ability to shoot well off of either foot. Couple highlights from the weekend:

had a nice tic-tax-toe primary assist to Ambrosio today, too.

Nice to see him producing even without Newhook centering the line. I kind of wish Newhook was still in Boston dominating with Boldy instead of wasting time for Canada. Boldy and Newhook probably the best duo in college hockey.

Good pick by the Wild.

Boldy was my pick heading to #10 in 2019, he was a top 8 talent that year with a high ceiling, not that I'm complaining about Podkolzin, but if he can overcome his defensive shortcomings, Rossi Kaprizov Boldy is the future. Good to see him being on fire to start the year.

His 2ppg play to start the year has continued as he shifts over to team USA. I thought he played well. One of those new-aged power forwards that you can't knock off the puck but also has the hands to turn you around. Reminds me of Mikko Rantanen. I don't think he has the shot threat to be as good a player, but stylistically I see it.

2nd assist

1st assist

3 goals today. Should have 5 points but they never have him the secondary assist on Zegras’ goal against Russia.

This kids development is coming along quite nicely. Quite glad I drafted him in my 30 man keeper

I like the rantanen lite said above. Seems to be a great complementary top6
Player, the kind that would play extremely well with an elite player driver (not everyone can) and buil upon eachother . uses very soft hands to finish, can try sneaky passes, tries to screen the goalie alot, fights for rebound, uses well his size to protect pucks.I feel his feeth although not a hindrance are not bursting and creating many chances, he relies more

His compete level is fantastic. He'll be an elite "grinder" in the top 6 who can be deployed in every situation even if his skills don't continue to develop. Very high floor IMO.

Like his hands on the half wall and below goal line - quick one touch passes and seems quite accurate with backhand passes as well. First step is average and stops moving feet when has puck but see that quite a bit at that age. Puck protection seems pretty good and will likely get better as fills out/gets stronger.

He should be playing with Zegras. He is such a good all around player. I wanted the Ducks to draft him if Zegras was taken at 8.
