LW Matthew Boldy - Boston College, NCAA (2019, 12th, MIN)

Why? If he's ready for the AHL let him play in the AHL or NHL if he proves worthy.

cause he's still young, and he might get bounced around in the AHL since he's literally still 18. AHL is no walk in the park, very physical and can be quite a wake up call.

Johnathan Dhalen, super star in sweden but the physical game got to him, and couldn't handle it.

I've got very little doubt he can handle the AHL, and the wild will give him every opportunity in the world

I’d keep him in college too. Better to have them over-ripe than under-ready. For what it’s worth, my guess is that Brad Bombadir and the rest of the player development staff will want him to stay in College for another year. Russo has an interview with him coming out shortly where he probably addresses the subject as well.

Yep, he belongs in Boston for another year. Spend it learning the nuance of playing C and being a dominant two-way player. Then come center Fiala & Kaprizov in 2021-22

He’s not going to be a center at BC. If you want him playing center he should be in the AHL.

If he goes back to BC next season he’ll be back on Newhook’s wing.

You want to pencil him in as #1c in 21-2? Whoa, cowboy!

He is not dominating physically in college in the games I've watched...remember, he will be playing, as a teen, against guys as old as 24-5 in the NCAA. Let him build up his strength and mature for another year in college rather than spend a ton of time on the road in the AHL getting hammered by 28 year olds.

Going the Mittelstadt route for Boldy isn't the way to go.

Going the Mittelstadt route prob wasn't the way to go for Mittelstadt either. Until there are no questions left at a lower level there is no need to throw them to the wolves. Then when you think he's on the edge of making NHL, let him try and AHL is the fall-back

Looking back at this season...why are Wild fans again supporting the notion of Boldy learning to play centre?

Because we need a center and he’s as capable as any prospect we have.

Sounds like a good way to ruin or at least disrupt the progression of a good prospect. You have two firsts this year, right? Get your centres there.

Zary or Lundell at ~10. Bourque or Lapierre at ~25. One who simplifies the game and another who complicates it. Aces.

Couldn't agree more. I'd rather have a dynamite winger than a project that may not work out.
Also think he should definitely go back to BC. Pretty sure Newhook will be back.

I’m sure management will consider all options

Agreed. Ever since the switch from Center to Winger (vice versa for Newhook), both Boldy and Newhook have been wrecking NCAA. Keep them where they're at and develop them to their natural positions instead of trying to make them be something they're not. That said, if the Wild need a center that bad, the Avs have a slightly used Jost they can offer for Boldy :naughty:.

Because people that have watched him all year haven't really noticed a large difference in his play at the different positions, just production. I think there is probably a case to be made that what we're seeing now is just a statistical correction from what should've been earlier.

It's very dumb to develop teenagers in the ahl for a full year. A couple games at the end of a year is fine but Boldy needs another year not in pro hockey
I wouldn't say its dumb, but you need to be cautious with it. I'd personally send him to BC, but guys such as Rantanen and Nylander spent full seasons in the AHL as teenagers. Now, the CHL kids who have been able to be bumped quickly like Honka and A. Nylander haven't worked very well, and we will see what Sandin and Liljegren become.
