2GP 2G 1A 3P -1 so far.

Pretty solid North American start, the smaller ice may actually play to his strengths more.

so is he the type of guy that will put up good points, have high hit total and good PIM total?.... basically a potential multi category fantasy pool stud??

I hope he pans out and becomes a fan fav... I remember the small sample a couple years ago when Soshnikov came to the Leafs and everyone said(including myself) that he would be a fan favorite and make an impact right away this season cause he puts up points and hits a ton and plays gritty.... but he really didn't do much this season unfortunately.

Would be cool to see Sosh and Grund pan out

Soshnikov is half a decade older than Grundstrom.

Totally different players.

Sosh is still a really decent 4th line winger. He just had injury problems this year.

Ya i know the age difference.. I wasnt talking about that. Just used his name as an example of someone that everyone thought would excel and plays a skilled game that is gritty. Cause i remember people comparing him to Komarov when he came over and ive heard Komarov comparisons with Grundstrom

People who've been comparing Grundstrom to Komarov haven't seen Grundstrom.

Grundstrom has more skill than Komarov or Soshnikov have ever shown.

Oh thats good.. Im just going by articles and what fans have said... Ive never seen the guy play but i am excited to see him on the Leafs

Soshnikov can still easily become a Komarov caliber player. He's currently a 3rd line player in my opinion and a high end 4th liner. He's never really been given any real opportunity offensively so far in North America. With the Marlies he was placed alongside Gauthier and Clune and still produced the goals he did. In the NHL he's spent most of his time with Martin or on the Komarov shutdown line. Don't let his numbers deceive you.

But yeah, Grundstrom is a more complete offensive player who is more built for the physical game. Sosh has struggled with minor injuries because of his small build and reckless game. I really like the Hornqvist comparison for Grundy.

I've only really seen highlights of Grundstrom, haven't seen the talent package that his SHL production would suggest - hope that you're right. To me he's looked more like a high motor aggressive forechecker who puts a lot of shots on net, Sosh has shown some real hands and shooting talent IMO, but a lack of vision

To be fair he didn't really have a chance to show that. Our top 9 was basically set from the get go. The only reason he even got into the lineup was because he PKs. He could have done what Brown did had he been in same spot imo. Just not enough roster spots. I suspect he'll have a couple 20 goal years down the line for a different team.

Looking like a really solid 2nd round pick. I usually have high hopes for guys we take out of Sweden (or the Nordic area due to Bergman). Look built to eventually step into a Komarov type role in a year or two. He should be a solid addition to the team as other players who aren't part of the core start pricing themselves out.

Not surprised at his quick start in the AHL. I was super impressed by him at the World Juniors. Well rounded player with a good skill set.

I thought he was one of the most impressive players at the WJC and alot of players are sleeping on him. I thought he would be going to the AHL but Eliteprospects has him going back to Sweden?

That's what I've heard. There just isn't room on the NHL team for him to make it even if he played really well. And Swede's generally stay in Sweden instead of playing in the AHL, at least til they are over 20.

Marleau signing makes that almost impossible. Winger jobs will be vacant next year when we most likely move on from JVR, Bozak and potentially Komarov.

Isn't the marlies stacked with wingers also? Might be wrong though.

I hope he stays in Sweden since Frölunda would be in a really tough spot if they would lose both Lias Andersson and Carl Grundström.

He said himself earlier this summer that he prefers SHL over AHL.

"- If it stands between AHL and Frölunda, what will it be?"
"- Then I believe it will be Frölunda."

The 19 year old will cross the atlantic to participate in Toronto Maple Leafs' rookie- and main-camp with the goal to grab a roster spot.
- That's how it is, but if he doesn't stick in the NHL he returns to us. (Frölunda GM Fredrik Sjöström)

Since he's drafted outside the first round and had a contract for 17/18 we have the right to have him play in the SHL if he does not end up in the NHL. However we hade the same situation with Tom Nilsson a couple of seasons ago and let him go play in the AHL. If Grundström himself really would want to play in NA I'm sure we'd let him go.

I've heard the comparison of a more productive Hyman.

Been red hot to end the year and that has continued into the playoffs. In game 1, late in the 3rd he hit the crossbar on a partial break that would have tied the game. Followed that up by scoring 3rd period game tying goals in games 2 and 3 which Frolunda ended up winning. Now with 12 goals in his last 14 games.

Damn I had no idea he was playing this well right now.

He is on absolute fire right now. JVR-esque levels of fire.

It is great to here he is tearing it up. I love his style of play. He is like a better skating Komarov who can score.
