Damn I had no idea he was playing this well right now.
He currently has the highest goals per game average of any U21 player in the SHL this century (followed by Lindblom and Johnsson). This season he is 6th in GPG among all SHL players right behind Pettersson (.45 vs .50 GPG). He's also the second highest forward on the team for individual shot rate in all situations.

It is great to here he is tearing it up. I love his style of play. He is like a better skating Komarov who can score.
He's more reminiscent of Hornqvist than Komarov, but I agree that he is a special player. Very unique game with borderline elite goal scoring ability.

Maybe get a cup of coffee in the AHL next year? But he's close to being ready, right?

I think he is going to make the big club. He looked great in pre-season with the Leafs, and it seemed like he was only sent back, because there was no spot up front for him. With all the UFAs there should be a spot for him up front next season.

seems like a tailor-made solution to bump Hyman down to a more appropriate spot. He does the same things well that Hyman does, and those should translate to the NHL fairly predictably, but he looks like a much better finisher which would force defenses to pay attention to all 3 players on that line in the offensive zone

He's a huge piece for this team. He really needs to pan out because the Marlies forward depth looks pretty bad for prospects now that Kap and Andreas are with the big club.

After playing so well in the SHL, you have to figure he comes over pretty polished for a rookie. Three years of his production on a ELC will be so valuable given the contracts that are about to start soon.

Not to derail this thread but this isnt entirely true. Marlies will have options on the wing again next year, if anything, going into next year i think the wingers are more promising than they were this year (outside Kapanen). Johnsson isnt necessarily a surprise but he has probably exceeded expectations.

Comparatively speaking, Grundstom seems poised to join the team along with Engvall and Korshkov. Marchment has been a pleasant surprise. I think they'll do pretty fine next year.

Having said that, Grundstrom is important and has the most upside i think at the moment.

Haven't seen that much progression in Grundström the last two seasons. He's been on hot streaks before, this time it's largely due to replacing Joel Lundqvist on a red hot PP-unit. Liked him more as a prospect before he was drafted, don't see more than 3rd line tools in his game now.

Echoing what the previous poster said, the depth is still there even if Grundstrom makes the team out of camp, and despite Johnsson, Kapanen, Soshnikov, etc. all graduating.

Korshkov has verbally stated he will be coming to North America for the 2018-19 season, which is probably the biggest addition (over 155 career KHL games) as he'll immediately be the top forward. Engvall, who has considerable pro experience already, was just given a PTO (.65 PPG in the SHL this season), and Marchment just earned himself an ELC last week.

Expect bigger roles for Bracco, Timashov, Brooks, etc. and you're looking at a top team still.

Agreed.

This guy screams Babcock guy. I can see him getting Hyman treatment.

Imo he’s going to be an important player. He might not be a huge point producer, but will have an important role in hornqvist mold

Yeah, i think he can find a role on the Leafs. Not too many Leafs forward prospects bring a physical element and the big club isn't overly physical either. So that along with decent hands and skating should help him.
I'm not sure how his defensive game is, does anyone that watches him fairly often care to offer an assessment?

I am very excited about this guy, I have a good feeling we maybe getting a borderline special player.

Love the way this kid plays!

It would be, but the Leafs will only get 2 years at most (this year was the 1st of his contract).

Bumping this. At the very worst he'll get a game in the NHL by fall 2019.

Likely to be competing for a job next year and the first call up if he doesn't get the job

I think he makes the team out of camp because there’s some openings at LW with JVR and Komarov likely moving on and he looks NHL ready. Doubt hel be in the Calder discussion but he could prove me wrong.

I'm hoping him and Korshkov both pan out and with Matthews, they can form a huge, two-way top line.

I know it's foolish to project lines this far out, but in terms of playstyle and physical attribututes, I'd like to see the line-up look something like the following;

Korshkov - Matthews - Grundstrom
Johnson - Kadri - Marner
Brown - Nylander - Kapanen
Hymen - X - X

Rielly - X
Dermott - X
X - Zaitsev

How do you not put Liljegren beside Dermott in a hopeful future roster lol ^

I prefer this as future:

Grundstrom-Matthews-Marner
Johnsson-Nylander-Kapanen
Korshkov-Kadri-Hyman
Leivo-Aaltonen-Brown
