Two goals tonight. He's #2 in the SHL now with 11 goals. Could have been more. Another excellent game by Grundström.

No, but 1+1.

He had a pretty weak wjc 20 last year, but I think he will be pretty dominating this year. he has take a huge step forward this year.

Hunter is incredible, can't believe he finds talent like this year after year. It's crazy.

Grundstrom will be a SOLID 3rd liner for the Leafs. Potentially a very good 2nd liner.

Pretty sure Thommie Bergman had something to do with it ;)

Would be quite the coup if both him and Korshkov turn out to be productive wingers for us at the NHL level. Good sign for us that both of them have been among their team leaders in the SHL/KHL

Reminds me of fellow Leafs draftee Andreas Johnsson. Not the biggest guy but very strong in his skates, good shot, and a willingness to take the puck to the net.

Grundstrom is likely around 6'0, 195 lbs at age 18.

Andreas Johnsson was around 5'10, 170 lbs at age 18.

There is a significant advantage in size for Grundstrom.

I don't see the Johnsson comp - Johnsson's big weapons are his shot and speed, scores off the rush a lot and his cycle goals usually come on either backdoor feeds or high slot shots through traffic...maybe like a poor man's miniaturized Alex Semin is a good projection

Grundstrom seems to almost exclusively score from below the faceoff dots. Some of his D+1 goals have shown more talent than the pre-draft ones, but still mostly ugly goals from what I've seen. I think Tomas Holmstrom looks like a good comparison for his upside. He's not as sexy of a prospect, but I think that could be very useful in our ultra-skilled wing prospect corps

I believe Johnson put up 15goals in 44 SHL games after being drafted and Grundstrom has 11goals in 24 games so a slightly higher pace.

Seems to be an adjustment period coming over to NA hockey, as Johnson struggled out of the gate with the marlies but looks to be getting more comfortable as the season goes on. Hope to see Grundstrom with the marlies in 3 years time

3 years to make the Marlies? Doesn't seem like a very promising prospect if that's the case.

1. Development isn't linear and not all players progress in the same way.
2. If he can tie his skates properly he'll be worth it as a 7th rounder.

Even though I'm talking about Johnsson and you're referring to Grundstrom, point 1 still stands.

If the Leafs' development staff feel Grundstrom is better served staying in Sweden for development purposes for a few years then so be it. That does not reflect on his qualities as a prospect.

Him staying in Sweden is dictated by the transfer agreement unless he is on the NHL team. Pretty sure almost all NHL teams prefer their players to be under their control. Frolunda is a fine place to develop and has been good for him, but all NHL teams would prefer to have their top prospects on their AHL team, unless they have a playing time crunch.

he is very good, but it makes me sad to see how his physical game is almost gone, he almost never dish out a hit.

I was hoping the leafs would take him at 30 or 31 and was so mad when they didn't. When he landed at 57.. oh man that felt great

Excellent young player, been impressed with him every time I get the time to watch a game. He is a tenacious, not afraid to go in any area of the ice and his recent run isn't just a hot streak as he has been a consistent threat whenever he is on the ice. He is in good hands with Frolunda, I expect both him and Jacob Larsson to be good NHLers in the near future.

i saw alot of his games when he played for modo, he always made many hits.
Could be just an effect of the team that he plays for? Modo was obviously not a very good team last year and now he has moved to the #1 team where he is getting better offensive opportunities.

He sure looked good yesterday. I think i was most impressed with his commitment to a complete game plus he looked a bit faster than expected.

Not really. If we talk about detroit players I think Franzen is more similar. I do not see much similarites with Holmström. Holmström was maybe the best in the world infront of the net in PP but worthless on pretty much everything else, he was one of his kind. Grundström is a strong powerforward with a great shoot that do not try to play to fancy, but very distinct, he is strong with the puck with a strong winner attitude.

He can score goals, so that is sexy.

He's done a good job I agree. Year after Year. He's participated in 2 ML Drafts

Hunter oversee's this stuff, but give credit to Thommie Bergman who has been doing good work for us for years. He's been the guy in Sweden for us for years. I'm also sure Ari Vuori had significant say in this as a scout in the Nordic region who is now our director of European scouting. We also added a new Swedish scout recently in Robert Nordmark. Hunter obviously scouts these guys at big events and cross checks them, but the guys doing the significant leg-work are the Euros.

I'm very glad Bergman has a voice again, it seemed Burke had no interest outside of throwing the Euro guys one pick a draft.
