Will he be a 1st liner at the World Juniors this year or is he a 2nd liner on that team?

I can't say I'm too familiar with the current depth.

Probably no difference between 1th or 2th line, be he will probably get a lot of ice time totally. Latly he has turn on beast mode.

I can't wait until Hunter's next low ceiling pick this year. Korshkov,Woll,Grundstrom, all criticized on draft day and all 3 performing extremely well.
I can only recall Korshkov getting significant backlash. I liked the Grundstrom pick, and loved the Woll pick. The picks t hat got the most backlash from what I can remember are Korshkov (I wanted Benson or Katchouk but was fine with the gamble, I knew I hadn't seen enough of Korshkov to bash Ladygin who brought us Soshnikov and Zaitsev) and Keaton Middleton.

Korshkov definitely got the most backlash but there were a lot of people upset we didn't select a few of the other more well known keepers with our pick before where they all went off the board right before we picked Woll. With Grundstrom there was a lot of people still upset with the Korshkov pick and just thought we picked another no skill grinder and you are right about Middleton who if unspectacular doesn't look half bad on an awful team. Was also a ton of Leaf fans upset in 2015 when we picked Nielson who looks to be turning out wonderfully. Basically people need to put there list down for a minute and trust Hunters because that man has been knocking it out of the park consistently.

True, I was always strongly opposed to going with a keeper at 31, especially after the Andersen trade (not because we got Andersen but because we got rid of 30). I felt most people were fine with Grundstrom, but there were some people being vocal about the approach because they expected another Bracco, Timashov, etc style draft and we passed on Samuel Girard and Debrincat earlier in the day, and passed on Abramov and Will Bitten with the Grundstrom pick.

Long term I liked the approach, while I don't think we should ignore skill, long term we are going to need relatively skilled grit and size to be the third wheel on our top 9 units. Korshkov and Grundstrom project to fill these roles.

I gotta admit I wasn't expecting this kind of offense from him this Season. Hopefully he can develop into a good second/third liner for us down the road. We need a player like him desperately.

Well it do not come completly out of the blue, he scored 16p in shl last season which is very good and the season before that he was a high point producer in superelit.

That first goal was a real power forward move, whether he tripped Liljegren or not.

Reminds me of fellow Leafs draftee Andreas Johnsson. Not the biggest guy but very strong in his skates, good shot, and a willingness to take the puck to the net.

Grundstrom is likely around 6'0, 195 lbs at age 18.

Andreas Johnsson was around 5'10, 170 lbs at age 18.

There is a significant advantage in size for Grundstrom.

I don't see the Johnsson comp - Johnsson's big weapons are his shot and speed, scores off the rush a lot and his cycle goals usually come on either backdoor feeds or high slot shots through traffic...maybe like a poor man's miniaturized Alex Semin is a good projection

Grundstrom seems to almost exclusively score from below the faceoff dots. Some of his D+1 goals have shown more talent than the pre-draft ones, but still mostly ugly goals from what I've seen. I think Tomas Holmstrom looks like a good comparison for his upside. He's not as sexy of a prospect, but I think that could be very useful in our ultra-skilled wing prospect corps

I actually had no idea he was a Leafs pick. Nicely done, who ever deserves credit.

Two goals tonight. He's #2 in the SHL now with 11 goals. Could have been more. Another excellent game by Grundström.
