I probably understand better than you think, as I wonder if you've ever actually known people with such issues and understood their circumstances and what kind of people they are on the inside. I'd much rather "risk" this kind of a player than go for a player with far less talent than him.
That's a pretty fair assessment. However, it doesn't mean they'd only be focused on one area of hockey, they could be super focused on hockey itself. But there might be more care and direction required. Of course, you can't say for sure what exactly it might be, but I don't think that that's so important. What's important is that you have a very talented player who might require a bit more care and direction and obvious things explained.

Like I said. I'm rooting for him. I dont know you and maybe you do understand. I've dealt with this all my in my life and understand the challenges it can cause, so when I heard they mention it on the TV, I was intrigued because I can relate. I hope he becomes a huge success story!

Yeah it could be hockey is his sole focus. I think he'll be fine, he'll be motivated to make it into the NHL

Lol wasnt talking about the fans....more so at the culture of Hollywood and LA.

Wild thing to say. LA is a big place. Manhattan beach is very nice. Most hockey players don't even get recognized in hockey stores in Los Angeles. I don't think any hockey player would be recognized, and if anyone did, they wouldn't care.

still with team USA after the cuts - I would be shocked if he doesn't make this team in December, but anything can and does happen with CHL kids time to time..
I'd be shocked if he made it. Not that he isn't good enough but the politics is ridiculous with team USA unless you are a legit superstar in the CHL(normally, not always).

Not even normally. Plenty of non-"legit superstars" in the CHL make Team USA, especially if Kaliyev doesn't qualify as a legit superstar.

I don’t know what more people want out of a guy than what he’s already done. How many bigger USA options are there in the CHL?

I get to watch him in Hamilton. He’s just a smart player who scores ALL the time. He’s not blazing fast, but he’s always open, he has good size and amazing touch. Reminds me of Brett Hull - sneaky and finds room. Look forward to seeing him this year.

I'm not saying Kaliyev is a lock to make the team (he's not) but if he doesn't make it, it's not because USAH only "normally" takes "legit superstars" from the CHL for its team. That's just patently false. They take plenty of CHL non-superstars.

In the past 5 tournaments, they've taken the following CHLers: Kyle Keyser, Sasha Chmelevski, Jason Robertson, Kieffer Bellows, Logan Brown, Max Jones, Kailer Yamamoto, Tyler Parsons, Caleb Jones, Jeremy Bracco, Brandon Carlo, Alex DeBrincat, Christian Dvorak, Scott Eansor, Brandon Halverson, Ryan MacInnis, Alex Ndeljkovic, Matthew Tkachuk, Chase De Leo, Anthony DeAngelo, Sonny Milano.

Surely some "legit superstars" in there but not the case for the majority of those guys (especially if Kaliyev isn't also considered one at the CHL level), and certainly not even close enough to make the claim that USAH "normally" only takes "legit superstars" from the CHL.

Does USAH make baffling, ill-advised, and indefensible decisions for its rosters all the time? Absolutely. But there's not some grand conspiracy against the CHL-based players.

Sober Brett or Drunk Brett

They have changed their mindset i believe. It uses to be pretty rediculous. I think Kaliyev is a pretty safe bet to make the team

There’s not an effort to not take CHL players, but I think when it’s close, the player who plays in the NCAA or USHL will usually be picked over the CHL player.

It’s not out of unusually sinister motives. Canada doesn’t like to take players who play outside the CHL, Russia doesn’t like to take players who play outside of Russia. It’s less pronounced with other countries, but I think a lot of countries will favor the leagues they sponsor over leagues in other countries.

Yeah this is pretty much what I meant as well. My original comment wasn't meant as USA Hockey has some conspiracy against CHLers, in fact I think it goes deeper than that as they play favoritism for any USNDP member vs anyone who did not go that route including other USHL/NCAA kids.

If Kaliyev is on the bubble, those guys from the CHL typically are the ones who get cut ..as Bonney said plenty of CHL kids make these teams so it is not like they hate the CHL...more in line to what you said with familiarity and going with guys from the system. It just stands out more because 7-8/10 times it is the CHL kid that just missed making the team..that 2010 Gold medal team had guys like Jenks, Lashoff and Mcrae all from the CHL and none were star players..so there sometimes is no rhyme or reason either just they like a player better.

What exactly is the culture of Hollywood and L.A.? How exactly does it relate to the Manhattan Beach lifestyle that members of the Kings actually live in?
Far more laid back than most people realize. The only pompous people are either self contained groups of uber wealthy people/celebs, or nobodies who havent realized they’re not going to make it yet.

Most people in California are chill and friendly, especially beach people. When everyone has money, nobody really cares. Plus, there’s so much stuff to do, and so many famous people, no one is going to badger him as a hockey player. He is 100% more anonymous as a rich Russian guy in LA (as there are already a ton of them) than any NHL player in a Canadian city.

Bet he’s not on the bubble after that game.

Was he ever on the bubble? I think he’s a near lock. Players like Brink and Robertson are players on the bubble. Kaliyev will almost certainly be on the team, but I don’t think it’ll be in the top six and the point being made was that CHL players sometimes have to be clearly better than USHL or NCAA players to make it. It didn’t necessarily apply to Kaliyev.

It seemed to be ignored by a good deal of draft pundits(though you'd think they'd notice over 50 assists last year), but the kid can pass the puck. He is not a one note player. LAK got a hell of a lottery ticket.
On an absolutely garbage team no less.
