The fighting is always something that has made me think Mantha has more competitiveness than some people let on. Hes not some heavyweight but he can handle himself and hes huge, for a guy scoring that much he really shouldnt even be fighting. Over the course of last year he had 5 fights and this year he has 2. He could be one of those Getzlaf types that dont really fight a lot but you can count on at the end of a playoff game to handle themselves well if someone starts jumping people. If he fills out more than he is right now he could be a solid scrapper.

Not that I would want him fighting much if hes scoring like he should be but its always nice to have that dimension

I know that guys have put up points like this in the past, but has anyone picked outside of the top 10 put up these kind of numbers in recent memory?

Connor Brown this year drafted in the 6th round two years ago by the Leafs. He has 107 pts in 53 games.

Don't have to look further than the guy 2nd in pts in the Q.

edit: now that i look at it, ppg wise he's not actually that close

Mantha would have 117 points if he had played that many games, so not really close at all. Anyone else?

Funny that you that, hes the only guy that kinda crossed my mind when I said that. But Mantha is over a goal per game while Brown isnt close to that and like someone said Mantha would have 10 more points or so. Worth pointing out that Manthas team was supposed to be brutal this year but hes turned them into a great team while Erie is a powerhouse and Brown's whole line is ripping pretty good.

Detriot continues to get incredible players late in the draft in comparison to most. They have by far the best scouting staff in the NHL. I'm jealous.

50 goals and 102 points (so far tonight) in 48 games. Not too shabby for the 20th overall pick.

He also scored his 50th with about 80 fewer shots taken than last year. I think statistically if he hits the same number of shots he had last year he'll be putting up over 65 goals.
