No one is arguing with you on the subject... Someone only stated that losing weight throughout a lengthy season is common and he probably bulked up in the offseason. That is why there is a tweet saying it feels 'right' to be at that weight.

I tihnk its pretty irrelevant either way when he put on the weight. At 6'5 and his age hes going to put on weight pretty quick if hes trying to bulk up. For a guy his size 217 is still probably 10 lbs under his best playing weight really.

I dont care when he gained it, just the fact that he did shows he has worked hard. If he loses a step now its worth it. In the long run he will get it back and be better off for it

cool video. The wings have been doing these all summer but they saved Mantha for last. Sounds like hes gonna get a shot this year to me

I would be floored (and thrilled) but I dont see it happening. With recent comments on Helm getting a top line / top 6 role and the Cleary signing, plus a already crowded forward ranks, I just dont see him getting a real chance to secure a spot in the lineup. Hope I'm wrong.

The next Heatley IMO.. and I mean that as a compliment.

Not very physical but can be mean at times. Not fast, but far from slow. Not noticeable with fancy plays, but finds the back of the net.

There are going to be so many people doubting him by saying he looks "invisible" most games, and then be shocked when they look on the score sheet and see that he has 2 points.

The guy just knows how to score and gets it done. Still floored that he dropped as far as he did in his draft. He was easily a top 5 talent in that draft. This is my biggest issue with most scouts is that they put to much emphasis on the wrong things. You can learn how to work hard and be consistent.. you can't learn to be 6'5 and put up 50 goals.

Mantha is actually fast. Long stride might not make it seem that way to those that don't watch him much

I wouldn't say he's fast. He's not poirer but as the guy said before he's definitively not slow, he's above average which for his size and skill is dangerous when he chooses to turn it on

I guess I agree with you but I would describe his above average speed as fast. I wouldnt describe Poirer as fast, I would say elite skater, hes an absolute burner which not too many are.

Hes a player that can use his speed to burn a dman wide outside which like you said with his size is impressive

Out 6-8 weeks with a broken tibia.

Probably means he spends most of the year in Grand Rapids now.

I think it will be better for his development. He'll be with GR until Christmas, get a few call-ups and could be full-time when injuries inevitably hit.

How did the injury happen? Seems like a difficult bone to break training or in practice...

He said he hit a rut on the ice as he was turning and his foot got bent awkwardly. One of those freak injuries...seems to just be a small hairline fracture tho, should heal relatively quick.

Apparently he hit a rut in the ice.

"He got his skate caught in a rut and he got hit and he couldn't really protect himself," Holland said.

"The puck was in the corner and I turned to my right at center ice," Mantha said. "I hit a crack at center ice and my foot came back and to the left. At the same, me and a guy from the other team bumped into each other so my knee probably went sideways. It happened so fast you can't know exactly what happened.

Thought Mantha had an excellent opportunity to crack the line-up out of camp. Especially with Alfredsson's persistent injury problems leading into the season.

Grand Rapids will provide an excellent place for Mantha to recover upon his return, and look forward to a call-up before Christmas.

Silver lining is that Mantha will do well starting off in GR, and it opens a spot for Jurco who deserves to get a shot in the top nine.

I've seen Mantha more than 30 times. He is fast at the CHL level, but in the NHL he will just be average, maybe slightly above.

This shouldn't be any kind of concern though because that's not his game.

Really unfortunate to hear about the injury though.

Interesting note from Rotowire:

According to HNIC's Elliotte Friedman, the Sabres requested Anthony Mantha back from the Red Wings in a trade for Tyler Myers.

"The Red Wings stopped there," Friedman said. Perhaps the Red Wings would’ve considered if they were acquiring the Myers from a few years ago. As is, Mantha, the 20th pick in the 2013 draft, is loaded with potential, scoring 57 times and notching 120 points in the QMJHL last season. While Myers, 24, has been a shadow of the player he was his rookie season when he recorded 48 points. Oct. 11 - 9:22 pm et

I dont think Myers would even provide much to Detroit in the first place. A right handed shot would be nice but if the wings ever gave up Mantha for him now I would be livid.

The wings havent had a prospect this hyped up since Zetterberg and before hurting his Tibia he looked like hewas walking onto the wings roster straight from junior

Tyler Myers doesn't know how to play defense anymore. Not sure why the Red Wings would be interested in him, especially at the cost of their young talent they've been patient with.

damn Detroit's future looks in good in 2-3 years a first line of Zetty-Dats-Mantha would be crazy also the way guys like Nyquist, Tatar and Jurco have progressed it seems that we wont have to go into a rebuild and the playoff streak can go on longer

That note is so very, very old and irrelevant.

He's 24. Zdeno Chara didn't look like a future Norris winner at 24 either. It often takes a long time for defenseman to learn the defensive side of the game. Also, playing on the Buffalo Sabres your whole career doesn't help at all. Myers still has a ton of potential. Of course Detroit should be interested, but at the right price. Myers for Mantha is not the right price.

The thing about Myers is he did look like a future Norris winner at 21. That's the difference between him and chara. Not saying it's doom for myers, but he has to trend upward again soon

Chara barely knew how to skate backward when he got to Ottawa. Exaggeration
