I don't think he will shy away from it completely, but I do think he will chirp a lot less at the NHL level. Keep in mind there is basically nobody that can shut him up in terms of either shutting down his offense or taking it to him physically in his current league. That could account for some of the talking he is doing.

Very true

The homer in me wants to say higher, but that draft has the potential to be super high-end. It will be very interesting to see where these players are in 3 years.

Long term he might jump ahead of a few of the guys picked higher than 7, but at this point, with all of them aside from Drouin playing regularly in the NHL in their first year, it's hard to put him higher than 7

However, to be both fair and honest, all of the teams of those players both had space for and needed those players. Both Mantha with his size/skill and Drouin with his skill/skill likely would have gotten looks on all of the top 6 teams except TB as well.

At this point, I don't have too much of a problem taking him over Monahan or Lindholm. Offensive talent that relies primarily on shot and positioning usually translate to the NHL easier than two-way ability without elite offense (Monahan) or big ice offense (Lindholm). Not saying they won't, because they likely will--I just think Mantha's goal scoring will end up being more game breaking.

Monahan just put up 22 goals, I think he translated just fine.

Was gonna say this. I'm a wings fan but Monahan just scored 22 in the NHL with the potential to be an elite defensive forward as well. Mantha should probably be rated around 7 in a redraft right now but I could see him being better than some of the guys ahead of him. However theres a chance that some other guys raise their stock still and overtake Mantha as well.

Welcome to the Mantha show

He is pretty underwhelming for a goal per game player. Seems like out of nowhere he just shows up and scores a goal. Quite amazing actually.

Everyone seems to expect him to be a Drouin out there. He's not flashy. He sneaks into a quiet area and burns you.

If you're referring to tonight.. he had 2(?) breakaways, a goal, and hit a post. It's not like he isn't a consistent threat.

That's pretty much his style, when he's got the puck in the offensive zone he's very dangerous, other than that you don't notice him much.

He needs more work off the puck, a season with the GR will be huge for him.

Exactly. Plus, his linemates are good junior players but not stars in their own right. I think Mantha will look better with pros on his line.

I mean, it's one thing for a center to carry weaker linemates and it's completely another for a winger. Put him with better teammates and you get his WJC performance, for example.

That's the other thing I noticed too, this Vald'or team is not that good, hard working yes, but not very skillful.

Okay guys, I'm officially perplexed by Anthony Mantha. I keep waiting for him to flop thus proving me right, but game in and out he shuts me up.

Does this guy translate to the NHL? and if so, who is a comparable.

I've heard these comparisons: Carter/Neal/Perry/Vanek

Perry/Vanek hybrid for me. Not really hard to see him as a 40 goal guy.

I mean, being a goal a game player is amazing and very rare. You see that and expect him to be a dominating force, but he shows up here and there just to score.

It'll be interesting to see how it all translates to the NHL. He is so damn intriguing. I wonder if he can be as good as Jeff Carter.

Yup. I'm really beginning to believe it. He's scoring goals in the easy games... But what's really impressed me is that he's scoring goals in the big games too. I think he's the most intriguing prospect in the CHL. Friggin' Detroit. Good for them. This guy is ready for professional hockey.

You're entitled to your opinion but I saw a guy who played the last 2 minutes of the game. Guy who displayed great skills, great vision, great shot, skating and even good defensive plays. Only element absent is the physical part, which is well overrated in hockey IMO.

That said, he's not Sidney Crosby nor Nathan MacKinnon. He's not THAT good but he's still very good.

I'm not denying he's a great talent. I was pretty impressed with his defensive play honestly.

Just think it's unique how he can go from not being noticeable, to putting the puck in the back of the net 3 times a game.

He is a find a seam and make them pay type of player. Will be interesting to see how he does with ahl and nhl talent over the next 1-2 years.

I am personally salivating at potentially getting to play with datsyuk setting him up for a year or two (maybe longer if dats resigns for a year or two after his current 3 year deal) if his finishing ability translates to the pros.

Granted unless he has a monstrous offseason of growth it is a fairly safe bet to assume he sees around 1/2 a year at least in the ahl given his parent organization.

I agree to some extent. That said, he wouldn't be the first player to play this way and have success in the NHL. Although I don't buy 100% the Vanek comparison because of play around the net. Vanek plays that way a lot of the time. You don't see him for 2 games, and then he scores 2.

One thing you have to keep in mind also is that teams prepare for Mantha. You know full well coming into a game against Val d'Or that he's the guy to stop. Despite that, he still finds ways to get open looks in most games.

It can be considered overrated, but it's not something that you can just ignore and slide under the rug. Physicality is the name of the game, he's not going to be playing boys in the NHL.
