It bumps the clock, Again.
But even if you are sure, Why risk Kadri? Even if they both work, What make more sense? 3 good seasons of Luongo or potentially 5+ with Kadri?
If I were Nonis it would be "this is my offer right now if you want to get rid of him now and get him off the books"
Frattin, Bozak and a 3rd
And if that doesn't work we hold, Or go after someone else.
Can't the thread title just be the Luongo discussion thread? No one really knows who is going to be involved, and Gardiner's not going anywhere and i'm sure Gillis knows that by now.
No thanks.
If Nonis is true to his word, that is, "will only trade a young player for another young player" then this trade doesn't happen.
Besides, as has been discussed, at least one of Komisarek, Connolly or Lombardi has to go West in any deal.
What do the canucks lack in their team. Like for us its a number one centre and goaltender, what would it be for vancouver. I don't know much of their team.
Would they want macarthur/komisarek/bozak/connolly?
It's about Luongo's long term deal that sours me. He's 33, it's certainly possible he'll play past 38 but how many goalies played well beyond that? That's alot of coin that could hamper us 5 years from now.Said it last night, Nonis is not trading Gardiner or Rielly or any of our other young prospects of the Kadri ilk. If he does and he only gets Luongo back, he should be summarily dismissed after what he stated in yesterday's presser.
Now again as I tried to say last night before a poster tried to hijack the thread, it makes no sense or adds any value for Gillis to take Connolly, Bozak(though I think he's quite good, just not enough to seal a deal for Lu), Lombardi, 3rd rd picks, and other fillers to bring Luongo to Toronto, or to move Gillis to make the deal.
So who else in Toronto can we part with that would not destroy our promising prospects cupboard we painfully watched grow the past 4 years.
What would make this deal happen, that wouldn't kill this franchise, there's an obvious fit I posted last night and it may work.
Clue: A #2C on this roster.
For most GM's in the NHL, if not all, a #2C for a #1 allstar Goalie is a good trade off.
i guess we'll just buy him out when he starts to suck
we can still do that right?

Nope
At least I dont think we could
Yeah... except a third of his cap hit is on our cap for twice as longi guess we'll just buy him out when he starts to suck

Yeah... except a third of his cap hit is on our cap for twice as long
we have something like 6 forwards coming off the books, plus Komisarek will be bought out, maybe Phaneuf too
We are going to have a ridiculous amount of cap room this offseason, and because of those compliance buyouts, there will be a lot of UFAs out there this year - and because supply will be high, and cap coming down, prices will never be better.
While I don't mind Luongo's price tag, his term is too much. I don't think we *need* him to maybe sorta try to squeek in this year if we have no chance of winning anything, and beyond this year he may become a burden down the road. Keep our heads on straight, do the right moves this offseason, and stay the course.
I don't think we should tank, though, we should try, but honestly....expect to finish dead last with our current roster
1. Tank.
2. Trade Joffrey Lupul, Cody Franson and Clarke MacArthur.
3. Draft Nathan MacKinnon, Elias Lindholm or Alexander Barkov.
4. Trade for Roberto Luongo at the draft (Kadri, Bozak)
5. Sign Corey Perry, Paul Ranger and David Clarkson.
Going into 2013/14...
Perry - MacKinnon - Kessel
JVR - Grabovski - Kulemin
Komarov - Colborne - Clarkson
Brown - McClement - Ashton
Gunnarsson - Phaneuf
Gardiner - Ranger
Liles - Holzer
Kostka
Luongo
Reimer

No one knows for sure, but the speculation is its the same as before.
hmmm, maybe u cant. Could have swore I heard someone saying how its likely same as before. Regardless, we'll know by Sunday.
Yeah... except a third of his cap hit is on our cap for twice as long
I'm honestly not sure. I always thought that you could only buyout players that you signed.
Well see in a day or two if Gomez gets bought out![]()
Teams won't be available for amnesty buyouts until the offseason. I don't see any circumstance under which the Habs buy Gomez out until then.
How is a kid who looked terrible in the WJC supposed to be a 1st line center in the NHL next year?
I'm not unaware of anything. I'm just not someone who simply buys into the hype machine that is the draft year in and year out. I'm not saying Mackinnon won't be a great player despite a poor WJC, or that Drouin will be better or worse, or anything other than the fact that how can you expect a kid who played poorly in a tournament with his best peers to jump into that large of a role immediately in the NHL?lmao, so unaware........wow hf
