we have something like 6 forwards coming off the books, plus Komisarek will be bought out, maybe Phaneuf too

We are going to have a ridiculous amount of cap room this offseason, and because of those compliance buyouts, there will be a lot of UFAs out there this year - and because supply will be high, and cap coming down, prices will never be better.

While I don't mind Luongo's price tag, his term is too much. I don't think we *need* him to maybe sorta try to squeek in this year if we have no chance of winning anything, and beyond this year he may become a burden down the road. Keep our heads on straight, do the right moves this offseason, and stay the course.

I don't think we should tank, though, we should try, but honestly....expect to finish dead last with our current roster

There are also other teams that are already or will be in a situation like Vancouver, with multiple starting-quality goalies. LA already has to figure out what to do with Bernier. If Anderson keeps it up in Ottawa they have Lehner looking like an NHL goalie.

1. Tank.
2. Trade Joffrey Lupul, Cody Franson and Clarke MacArthur.
3. Draft Nathan MacKinnon, Elias Lindholm or Alexander Barkov.
4. Trade for Roberto Luongo at the draft (Kadri, Bozak)
5. Sign Corey Perry, Paul Ranger and David Clarkson.

Going into 2013/14...

Perry - MacKinnon - Kessel
JVR - Grabovski - Kulemin
Komarov - Colborne - Clarkson
Brown - McClement - Ashton

Gunnarsson - Phaneuf
Gardiner - Ranger
Liles - Holzer
Kostka

Luongo
Reimer

Every time I see these overhaul proposals I need to remind myself that teams' chances for playoffs are in backward relationship with number of new players in that team that year.

No thanks.

If Nonis is true to his word, that is, "will only trade a young player for another young player" then this trade doesn't happen.

Besides, as has been discussed, at least one of Komisarek, Connolly or Lombardi has to go West in any deal.

Seems quite a few just ignore that:laugh: Not to mention he said he was more patient than Burke. I guess it really means he's trading everybody in order to make it his team by next weekend.

Please leave Kadri out of this, as well. :help:

Honestly, if the luongo deal does happen, I see no way kadri is not involved in some way.

Notice that nonis never outlined a guy like kadri, always said guys like gardiner and rielly.

If you read between the lines, I believe kadri has to be involved.

Nonis has also said that he would only trade a young prospect for another young prospect (of a different role).

What do the canucks lack in their team. Like for us its a number one centre and goaltender, what would it be for vancouver. I don't know much of their team.

Would they want macarthur/komisarek/bozak/connolly?

Lets hope Reimer recovers back to form and Carlyles system improves us. Then we can forget about this Luongo non sense, our fan base is being driven apart.

At least it's a different division now. The whole "realists" vs Burke supporters was getting a bit tiring.

They need cap space, that's for sure.

I don't see Vancouver holding onto Luongo for this reason... if they keep him, they will have to get rid of someone high profile next season in a buyout. If he doesn't play, his value drops (as a backup to Schneider), his value is highest right now, but even then it isn't extremely high.

As he should, unless it is a player of Corey Perry or Ryan Getzlaf ilk. Still I would be reluctant to part with hard earned prospects in deals we have made. Gardiner, Colborne, Biggs, Percy, Finn, Rielly, Nilsson. This is the future Toronto Maple Leafs, Nonis's history is draft, develop, and promote. It's reassuring he will think extra hard before moving assets that are prospects.

He's much more apt to move players off the current roster if there is a fit.

Another guy I'd add is Leivo, But for the most part I agree at this point.

It's sounds crazy, But I'd rather let Kadri become a bust with us, Then ship him out(especially in a deal for a 33 year old goalie) and he becomes star with another team.

IMO we should let this play out and see what he has. As posted on the pervious page his stat line in comparison to other players is encouraging to me at least.

What Nonis really should learn from Burke and the Kessel trade, you trade a Kadri and or a Gardiner, and you will be reminded of it a long time as Hamilton and Seguin will of franchise altering deals. Not something you want as a GM or fanbase, I think we can all agree it stings everytime you see a Seguin goal.

So if you trade Kadri, you better be 100% sure of the return. It can bite you later because he could be on the verge of big things.

It bumps the clock, Again.

But even if you are sure, Why risk Kadri? Even if they both work, What make more sense? 3 good seasons of Luongo or potentially 5+ with Kadri?

If I were Nonis it would be "this is my offer right now if you want to get rid of him now and get him off the books"

Frattin, Bozak and a 3rd

And if that doesn't work we hold, Or go after someone else.
