its not giving up on the rebuild
it's trying to enchance it by improving the balance and chemistry
no #1 center
no #1 goalie

we have a bucketload of good D's and lots of wingers
surely a trade could be made here with some creativity

To get a #1 Center you're looking at trading Gardiner. Depending on who that #1 center is, how old they are it would be interesting. They have to be young though. This whole Luongo thing is nonsense. He would great for us but we have so many other holes. I'm not comfortable giving up a boatload for him.

Luongo would be fine as long as no youth was traded off the 'reserve' list

Nonis made it clear that he would trade a young player, the deal just has to make sense long-term. He doesn't want people thinking he'll never trade a young player.

offering bozak reimer and 2nd pick wont ruin a rebuild

Where do you see Luongo fit in the long term plans? 3-5+ years down the road.

John Shannon said today or tomorrow, he loses all credibility with me if it doesn't happen.

he doesnt
but any rebuilding team still needs veteran leadership
and where better than to start in goal
they might even play with added confidence with a quality proven goalie and that's not a bad thing is it

for example:
edmonton - khabibulin r.smyth
ottawa - craig anderson (age 31), alfredsson

so would it bad for us to have:
toronto - luongo, arnott ??

The only hand Vancouver has is IF a starting goalie goes down on a contending franchise. He will be able to get value.

These are the only teams that IMO would/could trade for him besides T.O.

Boston - Rask is overrated, has had injury trouble and can blow up.

Jersey - If Marty goes down, Lu could step in and they wouldnt miss a beat.

Chicago - Crawford is either hot or cold and that act might get old.

San Jose - Vet team that needs to win now, with a GM that likes to make deals.

Tampa - Still close to home for Lu and if Lindback fails that owner has deep pockets. Lu also is a Stevy Y guy from the olympics.

Washington - They have felt for a long time they are a goalie away from the cup...

Edmonton - Not sure they can/would spend the cash but a goalie on that team would be a HUGE difference.

You may want to give this a read.No Trade Clause

So unless he is willing to waive for those teams, Van has nothing.

I gave up talking to Nuck fans on the main thread. Their logic is bizarre. I keep trying to explain that mortgaging the future won't help this team as we've done it before and it's worked out poorly everytime, but they insist that Luongo is the answer. Feel like I'm talking to a brick.

Like a Nucks fan would like to help us out. Sure they're always nice to us.

When did Shannon say this?

he said it the night the CBA was finalized he was asked multiple times, and he always answered, next Sunday or Monday after camps open..well it's almost midnight Monday morning and still nothing. I'll give him Monday if nothing is done I'm not believing a word he says.

I have a feeling this Luongo situation is going to go on all season long. It seems Gillis has a high asking price which is odd given his negotiating position. He is perfectly within his right to do so though, he has nothing to lose by waiting for something better he might as well hope someone's starting goalie tears a groin or something.

He'll just play the "I'll just keep two starting goalies in my lineup card" this year. Luongo is a solid pro so I doubt there'll be much of an issue with team chemistry or anything like that.

Nonis is being rather clear in that he's not going to give up any of his youth that him and burke spent the last 4 years building up. He's just not going to do it in my opinion.

I laugh every time I see Kadri in these proposals. They have been meticulously developing this kid for 3 and a half years. For what? To trade him right when he's about to make the jump? It's nonsensical regardless if you like Kadri or not as a fan. This team is simply nowhere close to being ready to ditch their prospects and make a run.

I see this Luongo situation happening soon, I just don't see it lasting all season. Luo
wants out and Van knows they have to trade him, yea Luongo has said "I'm fine being here until a deal gets done" IMO make no mistake he wants out he's just being professional about it.

Will he come to Toronto? I think so because it works for both teams and Luongo. We need a goalie, they need to unload one and Luo is willing to come here. Only thing is we need to come up in asking price AND Vancouver needs to lower there asking price on a return for LUO if this deal is ever going to happen.
