Only way they are getting Gardiner or Rielly is if the deal is way bigger then just Luongo. Simple as that.

And even with that, we would have to be blown out of the water to deal them. Go and look at the recent draft picks of the Canucks and tell me who they have to offer for Rielly or Gardiner? They have the guts to criticize our farm system?? HAHA other than Hodgson who they traded and Jensen they've either traded their first, or they've become a bust. There are a few Gaunce and Jensen I'm interested in but other than that...wow. Bleak.

I like the idea.

Franson+Bozak+2nd is the most i'd offer.

alternatively i'd give them a solid prospect instead of franson or the 2nd.(i.e Ashton, Ross, percy etc.)

We don't have room for either of those guys.. We have enough bodies as it is right now.

We don't have room for Gaunce or Jensen?? First off Gaunce is in junior so..yeah no explanation needed for that..hopefully, and Jensen was in Euorpe. Not sure how you come to the conclusion we have no room. We have enough bodies...wtf. Please tell me you've been drinking tonight. Both are first round picks, I would think with some time either in junior or in the minors they would earn their time in the big leagues. Both of them are 18 and 19 years old. If we have any issues we deal with it. Again if we're going for Luongo and they want Gardiner, any type of deal would have to involve at least one of them. I highly doubt though Gardiner gets traded, I just cannot fathom it

Time is our friend. Yesterday ALL of the reporters were harassing ALL the Vancouver players asking about Luongo. The media are creating such a distraction, there is no way Vancouver can just keep both, it will never work and blow up in their faces.

This.

Toronto's media influence will light a fire under Gillis' ass.

Does anybody think that Van is just bluffing when they say that they are comfortable going into this season with Lou on roster as insurance in G position for deep playoffs run?

Because come the summer Van will need to pay US to take Lou from them as there is no way they can get under the cap with that albatross contract and I don't see owners paying 40M to buy him out. Owners would rather part with assets to get rid of him.

What about Lou+1st+1st++ for Lebda type player?

Do you seriously think that no team would take Luongo for free? News flash for ya....Luongo is and will be hands down better than any goalie we have. If we have a chance to trade for him without giving up pieces like Gardiner, Reilley or our 1st...we should do it.

The situation is a ticking time bomb. Wait for Gillis to crack, plain and simple.

If Bozak is traded hopefully we can try Kadri up the middle.

I mean, we were willing to hand our #1 centre spot to an undrafted college FA, why not to our 7th overall pick who has put in a ton of work??

Ya, Kadri has paid his dues. Now its time to play his ass, and see if he sinks or swims. Let him play all 48 games in an offensive role and see what happens.

Whats the worst that could happen? we get another top 5 pick?

The idea of aquiring a goalie that carries a cap hit of 5.3 till the age of 43, and could potentially retire earlies, leaving the Leafs with dead cap, is a horrible idea. Unless Nonis and others can get Vancouver to take on cap throughout the contract, to help mitigate the risk for the Leafs, aquiring Lou could put the Leafs in cap hell, and cause problems down the road. Let Vancouver keep him; they strongly believe he is on a great contract, why not keep him and enjoy it.

To me it doesn't seem like the right time to trade the little depth we have for a goalie who doesn't have many years of high end play in him. By the time the Leafs prospects and team is all set, Luongo could be on the drastic decline.

Seems too risky of a trade to try and capture lightning in a bottle with this team.

If Burke and Nonis have been taking the same approach as all of you guys, it really is no surprise they couldn't come to a deal...

Not to mention Komisarek has a similar cap hit and would make ZERO sense for the Canucks.

...and?

Bottom line. Like the Goalie, hate the contract.

He is a goalie for a contending team.
He will retire before the Leafs contend.
No guarantee that he will help the leafs get into the playoffs. (See Panthers)
May improve team to be outside top 8 draft pick
Will cost cap space well after he is gone. 2 or 3 million a season could go towards a significant player.

No surprise indeed.
