If Bahl is actually able to adequately perform in a top 4 role then I think we could be set up nicely for the playoffs next year. Maybe you have to go Siegs-Marino as a shutdown pair with extreme usage and then Bahl-Dougie to shelter Bahl a bit in a top 4 role. Then Luke on the bottom pair. I’m not a fan of Nemec in to start next year unless he blows you away in camp. By the end of the year though with another AHL year under his belt I definitely think he could be ready. Now the idea of a 2 rookie pair with Luke-Nemec is definitely risky but if that top 4 actually does work and you can run Luke-Nemec as a really sheltered 3rd pair you’re in great shape.
Bahl is sheltering hamilton. Hamilton is not a good defender.

He wasn’t good last night, possibly playing sick, and that amplified some of his warts.

His defensive shortcomings are really overblown though
I have not seen him play a ton. But from my quick view it would be a mistake to insert him into the lineup for playoffs

Same few posters already got some "see I told you so" posts saved for when he inevitably makes a mistake.

I really don't understand this obsession (by a few) to have him play in Utica. He is arguably the best prospect in the world right now not in the NHL. He does not need to play in the AHL.
A lot of this reminds me of the Jack talk and how if he wasn’t a #1 overall he’d have started in Utica like he should

Umm how does this remotely remind you of that?

Also whether that would’ve been better for him is completely debatable and unknown.

Meh...not remotely close. Jack purely wasn't ready to be in the NHL as early as he was. Jack's only experience was playing against children coming into the league and he was woefully out of place for more than a year.

Luke has been busting up men for two years while honing his game. It's really not a similar situation at all.

Didn't people want Jack to start in Utica because of his size (or lack thereof)? Don't think anyone is complaining about Luke's size in here.

This guy still hasn't signed yet huh? Looks like he's holding out for the bright lights of Broadway. I'd do the same thing. I'm sure Jack will demand a trade soon after, looks like the Devils are headed to another 10 year rebuild.

Precisely my fear. What if he holds out to become a UFA out of college? The Rags would roll out the red carpet for him. They would also hunt big for Quinn and throw the farm and VAN. Fitz needs to get on it ASAP.

Maybe not the appropriate place but a little fun fact.. Jack had more points in 13 games in January this year than he did in 61 games his rookie season.

rookie season - 7 goals 14 assist 21 points in 61 games

January 2023 - 13 goals 10 assist 23 points in 13 games

Not one shift in Utica.

I don’t care that Jack was ruined by not playing in the AHL and will never amount to anything in the big leagues.

Throw Luke right into the fire. In fact, I’ll predict a GWG on PP2 in game 3 of the first round for him. -BOOM-

Is he out there for tht pregame skate? Jack is going to have a hard time playing it cool. You know he is so excited Luke is joining him. I have never seen Jack as honest as when they drafted Luke. In that one moment his stardom all melted away and his pure joy as an older brother overwhelmed him. As a proud dad it was genuinely touching. I am excited for thr first game he might play. Maybe against Buffalo?
