Quick has always been the reason as to why the Kings ever made the playoffs in years past. He will, again, be the reason if we made it this year. Anyone who says "the system makes him look good" this year is a complete fool. Yes, the likes of Maatta and Matt f***ing Roy made him look fantastic.

I honestly wonder what this team would look like without Kopitar and Doughty. If other guys were forced to step up (like we've now seen a couple times without Drew), what would the team's identity be? Who would become "the guy" on the team?
Tonight was a strange game but overall they look better without Doughty than with him this season. Probably nobody agrees. I dont know what it is because hes their best player.

Coming off a disappointing OT loss, it's nice to see them rally to take advantage of the Panthers and their roster issues. I think Doughty being out isn't as big of a deal as it normally would have been because these guys got a lot of time together this year when he was out on injury, so less of a system shock this time around.

Never thought I'd say this...

but Lizzote and Lemeiux together really form a great 4th line to grind and maintain puck possession in the offensive zone. It's like the other lines feed off it.

And never thought I'd also say this...

but Kaliyev on that 4th line (for the time being) isn't half bad either because he adds that scoring touch ability when the other 2 grind it out.

Kings are currently tied with Winnipeg at 31 points in 28 games, one game out of a Wild Card, one point behind Edmonton (who are currently beating Columbus 3-0). We're tied for fifth in the division with San Jose, but they've played an extra game (and they play Vancouver tonight).

I was joking when I said we'd go 7-1 over our next eight games, but I'm pretty happy beating Edmonton, Dallas, Minnesota, and Florida, and taking Tampa to OT. If we can avoid another lengthy losing streak, we have a real shot to make the playoffs.

It's easy to defer to someone with more ability and more experience, but when those players aren't present, guys have to step up and play their best. At least, that's my working theory on the matter. I'm not sure if it's sustainable over an entire season, but it seems like in short spurts, the guys that have to step up are.

I mean how much o

How much of Quicks return to form is not having to play 60+ games? Keeping Cal might give you optimal Quick for 50-55 games a year?

I think we all love Quick and the guy is our Rogie Vachon of our time. The guy is a Kings icon although he hasn’t retired yet and nor do I want him to.

I want him to play as long as he can but we needed Cal to be the guy and it’s another hole now to fill.

It's weird because last year when Cal seemed to be taking over it was still split 50/50 between him and Quick. Glad McLellan is willing to ride the got hand lately.

I certainly don't agree that they 'looked' better tonight at all, Jim said it pretty well after the game--they've brought their A game and lost a bunch of games they shouldn't, tonight they had a B (maybe B+ due to the counterpunching at least) game and won. They had some great moments but overall that was one of the sloppier games they've played recently (2nd only to Vancouver imo). Just need to start being on the right side of the ledger more often than not and...

Really nice win tonight. I was concerned during the 1st period, but that Maatta goal might have saved the game and kept us in it.

...this kind of pushback is exactly what they need. Not something we've seen often during those 'A' games--a timely pushback goal.

Edit: but 3 of 4 points in Florida is stellar no matter how we got there. Wont' see me complaining much about style points at this point--for all the 'moral victory' pretty games they lost, nice to see them gut out a win with last minute roster changes and pretty much f***ed pre-scouting. Good improv and great Quick.

I agree definitely not tonight. It was a very weird game especially in the neutral zone. Never quite opened up and but definitely not played tight by either team. Sloppy stuff…

Not a great game by any means, but they got the job done against a depleted opponent. A win is a win. Thankfully Quick was magnificent, and bailed the team out over and over

Playoffs?! Playoffs?! You're talking about the playoffs?

Kings sucked in this game.

It was basically the opposite of most Kings games: pepper the opposing goalie with shots, struggle to score, then the other teams capitalizes on their few chances.

It was nice to have the shoe on the other foot for a change.

Kaliyev has been extra bad the past couple games, but he's quietly scoring at a near 20 goal pace.

Iafallo hasn't had much jump lately.

Arvidsson has been getting on my nerves the last few games. Low effort away from the puck.
