I don't remember hearing brisebois' name, but that would have been a pretty big stretch for them to go that route. He was like three years removed from retiring as a player himself at the time. I wonder if he was 2nd on the list due to a lack of candidates or whether he was seriously considered over Bergevin at the time.

Julien Brisebois, he was in house with the Habs for awhile before he moved to Tampa.

I did…..we were finishing the season with 100+ points and did this on multiple occasions.

And you stated we had The best goalie and perennial 40 goal scorer, and emerging Norris trophy winner and the General…..i mean you just pumped the teams tires and now challenging me because I was optimistic about our chances???

I criticized Bergevin on multiple occasions, just not on a hourly bases like many did.

When the time arises, and it will, I will criticize Hughes, but so far, no need, it’s been good.

I own everything I say…..and ain't a chicken shit to go against the narrative on this board, I say what I want to say and honestly have no fear of hurting feelings.
You have never said anything that ever hurt my feelings. But at my age, there’s very little you or anyone else can say that will.

Really? I find him to be the most overrated of our prospects by far. What Engstrom is doing in the SHL is far more impressive. Roy and Kidney have dominated the Q for two straight years. Hutson is setting records. Farrell is one of the best players in his league. Heineman is scoring at a goal per game in the AHL.

Mailloux scores some goals but still can't play defence against junior competition. The size and the shot are nice, but from what I've seen, he's seriously lacking in other facets of the game. I like him, glad we have him, but I'm not feeling the excitement yet.

The difference will be that the Habs will likely have won at least one Cup before then. MB won nothing.
He didn’t….neither did the 4 GM’s prior to him. Lucky for me that kind of stuff beads off my back like water on a duck….I appreciated him and thanked him for his services…..next man up, maybe they can lead us to the promise land.

Hey!!!!!…..Perron won a cup as a coach….guess that makes him great since he’s won something lol

Mailloux still remains a somewhat polarizing prospect. Some have him stepping into the NHL next year while others still have him as a project.

Wheeler was on The Athletic Support on Monday and he had some interesting comments. He said that Mailloux could step into the Habs weight room today and he would be one of the strongest performer.

I think the concern is with processing information quickly and choosing the right play, specifically in his end.

The physical tools are high end NHL caliber. The hockey IQ remains to be proven at the next level.

Thing is, Bergevin liquidated the previous regimes garbage also, and when Hughes one day gets fired, they will have to liquidate his garbage……i sense a pattern here

I f***in laugh whenever posters bring up garbage players he acquired….newsflash….EVERY GM ACQUIRES GARBAGE!!!!!!

Like let it go already

Bergevin drafted shit players but Mailloux isn’t one of them, if anything, 98% of the posters here went nuclear on Bergy….FFWD a few years and it was a brilliant move…like drafting Romanov.

Well, if he didn't get it, then Pierre McGuire might had become the guy since I remember reports saying he was close to getting the job. I think Pierre himself has mentioned that he got a long look.

I just remember thinking back then that the pool of candidates was pretty dry, even by Montreal standards who cut down a ton of options even before the search begins due to their special requirements.

I mean, even on the coaching side, it sounded like Marc Crawford was going to get the job if it wasn't for MT, and there was probably trepidation for that move too because I'm not even sure how good Crawford's French actually was, but he did coach in QC.
Pierre wouldn’t have done any worse.

With only 60 games in the OHL and questionable stamina levels after almost two years of inactivity, Mailloux will play in the AHL next year and even that step up in competition will require a period of adjustment. Those thinking that Mailloux will play in the NHL next year haven’t been watching him closely this year. He’s an intriguing prospect and will ultimately play in the NHL, and play well, but not next year.

It’s all a question of progression. If Mailloux reaches his full potential, he will outperform any of the other prospects that you refer to. I fall within the camp that believes Mailloux will reach that potential and thus believe any talk of trading him in an effort to secure a quick fix is pure folly.

This is one player who can't be rushed. With barely one complete season of OHL development over the past 3 years keep him in Laval next season.

Good to have both. Combine With rookies on our Blueline this season our defense is in good hands for next decade
Lots of talk about Hutson but I think Mailloux has better potential in the NHL. Big, rightie, nasty, lot to like. He just need to learn how to play in his zone better.

Then Struble would bench press Mailloux while Mailloux is benching his maximum. :naughty:

He was on a few pictures talking with Lecavalier at one of our pre season camps and he looked pretty much as big as Vinny ( who kept himself in really good shape) . He won't need to do a lot of physical maturing, that aspect is well taken care of IMO.

Both picks were the proverbial ‘swings for the fences’ at the time. If either player develops as projected (or hoped for) it will be a big boost for the fortunes of this team. If both do, it will be transformational.
