Leaving all the personal stuff aside (which frankly, I think the guy has paid for more than enough…), Mailloux has barely played any hockey in the past 2 years so nothing wrong with wanting to see him play a lot more before giving him a contract.
Hughes specifically worded his response not sending him back to juniors without a contract is “for personal development not hockey development”

The org will either use Mailloux as collateral in a deal at the draft or sign him before next year IMO… not concerned in the least

Gorton's motto is to trade up at draft. Done it numerous times, Miller, Schneider. Even with all the development time Mailloux has missed can tell in his games with Knights he is good NHL caliber. If I can see Hughes going to know it. Has real good shot, physical dominate right shot d-man. Floor is #4 defenseman, ceiling is Dougie Hamilton type. Hughes knows this and dragging his heels in signing Mailloux has to be the issue. He is going to move him at draft, possibility getting high in draft. Other GMs going to see Mailloux potential.

So my previous post is still valid.

I think that's only if he refuses to sign when they offer.

This is correct - the player has to have refused the contract offer prior. Which I don't think will happen.

The Habs will either sign him to an ELC at the conclusion of the upcoming season, trade his rights to a team who want him and will sign him to an ELC, or relinquish completely and get nothing.

I think the new administration is right to distance themselves from Mailloux while they get settled in. They can sign him next year with a lot less fan and media attention. At the same time, after signing him in spring of 2023, hopefully the fart sniffers in the hockey media will have gotten it out of their system by the time the 2023-2024 rookie and training camps get underway.

I'm not saying to drop him now. I'm clearly saying though that he does not deserve a contract. Yet.

I don't see any issues with that. He hasn't played enough games and there is that previous mistake he made so we should not rush to honor him with the few games he has played.

However, some are too quick to judge this situation and saying we should take the 2nd rounder if we decide not to sign him. That's very premature. This kid is working hard to get past his mistake and he has great tools. You don't give up on him that quickly

I think Oilers pick will be 61st or 62nd or else is in 2023 draft. And yeah we might be able to move up 4-5 spots imo.

Oilers finished 11th which would be 22 picks into the 2nd round. 32+22= 54. Are you thinking that the Oilers get a late 2nd cause they are in the final 4? That only affects the 1st round from what I know. 2nd round and further is according to standings (not playoffs).

Regardless, I'd try to use that 2nd to move down to early 20's if possible. I'd love to get our hands on Miro to be honest.

Putting aside the indiscretion, Mailloux hasn't played enough to warrant a signing. Hughes is quite right to wait and see where he is at after some more playing time next season before signing.

Its a win-win for Hughes. It demonstrates sensitivity to the severity of Mailloux's indiscretion while affording more time to evaluate the player. If Mailloux plays like he did last season and keeps his nose clean he will be signed. Its a no-brainer.

FWIW, I was listening to Kyper and Bourne this morning and Kypreos said that Montreal did make a minimum offer to Mailloux. Don't know if that's accurate, but Kypreos does have legitimate sources.

They'll give him his ELC at the end of next season, I'd be willing to bet it's already pretty much a done deal. They just need to play it safe and drag it out to the last moment, for obvious PR reasons. Unless the kid f***s it up royally he'll be a hab.

Geoff Molson lost his cool when his sponsors complained.

Logan Mailloux is gonna be showcased then traded. I'd bet a lot of money on that.

Molson doesn't want to deal with this anymore.

Big heavy right shot defenseman with booming shot. All teams drooling for them. Hughes dragging his heels signing Mailloux has to be the character. Habs will be able to trade up in draft quite high in exchange for him. Definitely won't let him go back for late 2nd.

Mailloux was a typical Bergevin guy. Bergs built around a goalie and then put 4 brutes in from him. With Mailloux shot he's going to get at least decent secondary scoring from his Blueline.

Nothing in what you say justify the definitive statement you made. It's all just suppositions based on suppositions.

The Oilers sure aren't taking a lot of flak for having notorious POS human being Evander Kane on their roster scoring goals right now. Literally all the team has to do is put their grown up pants on in june next year, call a presser and tell people that the kid has done his penance and gets to go on with his life now. That's it.

Yep, and all those social media people that were bashing Mailloux have been mostly quiet regarding Team Canada's situation. What Mailloux is nothing compared to what 8 players of that team did:

The plaintiff said she showed evident signs of intoxication including “glassy eyes, slurred speech, stumbling and loss of balance” as she left the bar with one of the players – John Doe 1 – and went with him to the Delta London Armouries Hotel. After she engaged in sexual acts with him, John Doe 1 “invited the remainder of the John Doe defendants into the room without the knowledge or consent of the Plaintiff,” the lawsuit alleged.

According to the lawsuit, the players directed her to fondle her genitals, and perform oral sex on them. The players also allegedly straddled the plaintiff while placing their genitals in her face, slapped the plaintiff on her buttocks, spat on her, ejaculated in and on her, engaged in vaginal intercourse with her, pressured her from leaving the room when she tried to, and engaged in other sexual activities with her.

“Throughout the assaults, the plaintiff experienced an ongoing apprehension of imminent physical harm of a sexual nature,” the lawsuit said. “The actions of the John Doe defendants caused terror and fear in the plaintiff’s mind. The John Doe defendants had complete control over the plaintiff and had isolated her from others. The number of men and the fact that they had brought golf clubs to the room further intimidated the plaintiff. As a result, the plaintiff acquiesced to their repeated sexual acts and direction to engage in same, but this in no way constituted valid consent under law by the plaintiff.”

They are both bad so I don't want to minimize one for the other, but yes what they did is magnitudes worse but this is sports.

If Mailloux is a legit defenseman this stuff won't matter anymore. The reason this team Canada news creates silence is because the players implicated have larger profiles and no one has the balls like Westhead to call it out.

Media only does what's easy. Mailloux was easy. This is the tough shit and we will see who actually gives a damn

Martin Leclerc this morning spoke about this and he did say that despite what they say publicly, internally, the organization is happy with Logan's path so far and how he's handling himself off the ice. They're in constant communication with the London Knights and the specialists that deal with Mailloux and they've been praising him and the work he's put in.

@Scorey Perry as I was saying.

Jeff Gorton with a 63rd overall selection > the never ending drama of Logan Mailloux.

Mailloux will not be ever-ending drama. It's steadily decreasing from the initial boom.

Talking of imaginary. You don't know who I am. Also always the same moral judgement on everybody. The new priests.

Creating imaginary, bucketed, binary-thinking opposition (the “woke crowd” in your case) is the best way to avoid actual conversation. It is also rather gutless. If you are interested in conversation, talk about the issues. You sound like someone who retweets racist shit justifying it by blaming “the radical left wing”. Be better.

i disagree with this im sure Mailloux will get signed next year, people are overreacting with this situation kid will be fine

I'm sure the kid will be fine. Not sure Molson is fine with what happened. He looked pretty panicky when the sponsors starting to come out in the press.
