Would you rather have the 63rd overall pick in ‘23 or Logan Mailloux? Right now I’d rather have Mailloux but let’s see how he plays next year.
in 24*, you'd have to let his rights expire which wouldn't happen until then and he'd have to turn down the contract

No, it would be in 2023. His rights expire on June 1st, 2023. You can see for yourself on CapFriendly.

This is the case for all drafted CHL players. Their rights expire on June 1st two years after being drafted.

His rights expire before the 2023 draft. They expire June 1st 2023.

He would actually reenter the 2023 draft IIRC.

It smells more and more like they will trade him. At this point I guess Mailloux, his family and his agent are likely disgusted to be treated that way for so long. If I would be Mailloux's father I would let Hughes know that I don't intend to let my son sign with the Habs. Woke mob is too crazy in Montréal. The Arpon Basu of this world will be on his back no matter what. It's worst than a religion, at least a catholic who confessed a sin can get the absolution, not in the woke sect.

Calisse quoi? Mailloux is a great prospect, probably a steal at #31. They just need to turn the page and sign him, bring him to rookies camp, main camp, and make a stand in front of the medias. Instead of that Hughes talk about the kid as if he was some king of monster. Totally crazy behavior from a GM. You need to protect your assets. Don't talk about the kid as if he was some damaged good.

Zellweger....Morrow.....Stankhoven.....Knies....

Calisse.

Disgusted by what exactly? What I find even more pathetic than the “woke mob” are the people defending him 100% and claiming he’s an elite prospect after only 12 OHL games.

The popular judgment about Mailloux is totally overblown. Who was more mature last year ? Mailloux asking not to be drafted or Habs management which drafted him anyway ?

Hughes should judge the player potential first and above all. The kid needs as full OHL season. He has to prove that he has NHL skills and is a good team mate.

People never got over Drouin refusing to play for the AHL team. I expect the same type of treatment for Mailloux. There will be countless Mailloux bashing on social media (including here)if the Habs keep him.

You've got to be one giant piece of shit to shrug off photographing someone performing a sexual act without their consent and show that to other people without their consent.

Learn to f***ing respect women you trash can.

Logical decision. He hardly played this year. Only 16 OHL games in 3 years at 19. It's better to wait until the end of next season.

Some things will help. Like Watson's presence on an NFL field.

No, something like 8 former Team Canada Junior gold medalists playing professionnal hockey in the NHL or AHL. Hockey Canada thought it was serious enough to settled the case out of court. I hope the woke mob will yell until the names are made public. Why Hockey Canada is paying this woman? Why no criminal charge? They supposedly did that six months after the tournament as private adult citizens. Collective rape is 100 times worst than what Mailloux did and these guys are protected by Hockey Canada.

There is no misunderstanding. One year after his draft he said the team is not convinced he is a good human being. I am sure Mailloux and his family really like these comments. At some point you need to move on. I know he did not play many games this year, but part of it is due to this exagerated suspension by the OHL. Hockey Canada is protecting potentially very serious crimes by 8 players, the OHL is shaming a teenager for a relatively minor offense at 17. Laws in Canada are supposed to protect the anonymity of minors. Instead, Hockey Canada is protecting the anonymity of adults. Go figure.

People are making way too much of a deal of him not being signed this summer. Even Brian Wilde is milking with his usual misunderstanding of what Hughes said.

That's not what Hughes said. He said Mailloux is still under evaluation as a person. Hughes is covering all his bases here and showing that they're taking the situation more serious than the previous Habs brass did. There's no rush whatsoever to make a decision on signing Mailloux who is basically under probation.

Yep Logan needs to keep maturing and showing he is a legit prospect.
Hughes has sons and he knows kids that age do stupid stuff. Hughes will give him a fair shot
