I was pissed when they let him walk to join Tampa for basically the same title knowing the Habs would need a new GM shortly after his departure.
Gainey brought Brisebois in. Gauthier was a control freak and I'm willing to bet Brisebois wanted nothing to do with the Ghost. Also the Habs passed him over for the GM job and gave it to Gauthier after Gainey resigned.

Thanks for the kind comments.

For the past ten years I have served as the Executive Director for a large provincial amateur sport organization whose mandate includes supporting grassroots sport and recreational programs and helping in the development of elite level athletes. Our organization is responsible for organizing and fielding midget aged female and male teams in a number of sports, including hockey, at national championships. Though I practiced law for over 30 years, I have been involved with hockey most of my long life starting as a player and serving in various volunteer roles including assistant coach, head coach and team manager.

Prior to my current position I served as a consultant for a number of hockey teams across Canada and ran several summer hockey leagues for under privileged kids. In my current role I have the luxury of having a number of skillful hockey scouts who help me assemble teams (male and female) that will be competing at national hockey championships and major tournaments. I try not to unduly interfere with their and the team manager / coaches' personnel decisions by limiting my involvement to one simple question: Will we be caught slow? I always remind my selection/management team of the old Russian saying: In hockey, if you can skate, anything is possible. If you can't, nothing is.

I have been a fan of the Montreal Canadiens for almost 70 years, having attended my first game at the old, old Montreal Forum in 1957. It was against Chicago, and Montreal won 5-2. I have had the privilege of watching all the greatest players of their respective eras: Richard, Howe, Lindsay; Beliveau, Cournoyer, Ratelle; Hull, Mikita, Keon, Horton, Orr , Esposito, Perreault, Martin, Lafleur, Robinson, Dionne, Salming, Bossy, Potvin, Lemieux, Gretzky, Coffey, Messier, Crosby, Bure, Ovechkin, McDavid, etc. I think I can say with some modesty that I have a small knowledge of the game of hockey. I come from a hockey family. My father played for the RCAF service team during the war. I inherited his passion for what I believe is the greatest sport in the world. As my life winds down, I will continue to follow my passion.

One final note. Some have asked me who was the greatest hockey player that I ever saw. For years, I used to have no hesitation in saying: Mario Lemieux. That I had never seen a player with his combination of size and skill. Now, I have no hesitation in saying : Conner McDavid. Its not even close. I can only say that if a better player comes along, let's all of us on this forum/board hope that he plays for the Montreal Canadiens.

Regards to all.
I am in awe.

It's great having you aboard.

Both have similar education, ended in the 5th year of high school as with most of quebecs working class.
When Savard went to school, high school in Quebec was only 4 years. Elementary school was from 1 to 7. High school from 8 to 11.

So you're telling me he did one year of post secondary education.:sarcasm:

Didn't it get reported here that Bergevin did not graduate Sec. 5?
Probably failed french, lmao. Anyway, theres very little difference between someone that finishes their sec 5 and someone that doesnt.

When Savard and Bergevin went to school, high school was only 4 years.
Hmm you guys are old old

I don't know about that but I guess it depends on when Bergevin let his studies slide. I know plenty of people with very very high IQ's who have zero what you term Formal Education only High School and or CEGEP which was like a social event for them. Grey Matter counts. :D

Well, that's my bad and why didn't you point this out earlier?

I overlooked that Sergachev played NHL at age 19. I thought his last CHL season was age 19.

lol, I did. The very first thing I said in my first reply to you.
What is Mailloux potentiel in the NHL? PP quaterback? 30 points per season? 40? 50?

Too early to say, he's missed so much development time that it's impossible to know where his game will be at in another year or two, if he can progress or not. He has Brent Burns upside, can he reach it only time will tell.

Think Sheldon Souray without the fighting and a better skater.

I don't see Souray at all, he was too stiff, Mailloux can move the puck well and rush it up ice better. I see more Brent Burns.

Burns is the right comparable here. No questions asked imo.

Mailloux seems to be much more of a threat to score from the blue line than Hamilton at the same stage of their career.

But if he can develop into a Hamilton I'm not going to be upset!
That's if he's not going to Winnipeg for Dubois, hope the Habs won't trade any of their good prospects.

That's not what the general consensus was with Brook in his age 19 season. Easy to say that today though
Being a natural contrarian, I really pay little heed to the prevailing general consensus. All I can say is that the first time I saw Brook play at the 2019 WJC, I came away unimpressed with the level of his dynamic skating and concluded that he constituted just another in a long line of tarnished defensive Montreal prospects (see: Juulsen, Lernout, Didier, Thrower, Dietz, Ellis, etc.).

I thought it would be a useful exercise to review exactly what I posted/wrote about this now former Montreal prospect over the years. Here is the evidence: the truth, and nothing but the truth:

October 23, 2020
In the few games that I've watched him, I think Fairbrother is a better prospect than Brook, who I always thought was way, way over hyped. Brook's poor performance at the WJC and the AHL did nothing to waylay my assessment.

Fairbrother is a much better prospect than Brook.

May 28, 2021
At this stage, Fairbrother is a better prospect than Brook, who in my opinion has always been one of our most overrated prospects.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________
July 26, 2021
I think you're over rating Brook's potential which I would compare being equal to that of Juulsen's. I doubt that any team is calling Montreal and asking for Brook. Now Guhle (and soon Mailloux) is another story.

August 19, 2021
I believe Brook has now replaced Juulsen as our most over rated prospect. I'm afraid he has journeyman written all over him.

August 19, 2021
I think that Mailloux, warts and all, is probably our defensive prospect with the highest upside. As for Fairbrother, I have not seen much of his play, but of what little I did see, he passes the eye test. Something Brook never did for me, at any level.

August 20, 2021
I hope you're right about Brook. I would love him to succeed and become a solid NHLer. I just have my doubts.
...... a complete lack of lateral skating ability.
The tapes speak for themselves. His lack of lateral skating ability made him vulnerable off the rush. Injuries did not render him a fringe NHLer.
…… there is a flair to Mailloux's game that intrigue's me. He has a presence on the ice that can't be taught. I strongly believe that if he can overcome his lack of maturity, Mailloux will prove to be one of the best selections of this past draft, with many teams saying to themselves: why didn't we take the chance? Drafting at 31, you swing for the fences. 'Safer,' less impactive style players can always be secured through free agency.
But the bottom line is that Brook is no longer in any rational discussion as being one of the team's prime prospects. That is because he is what he is: a journeyman who at best, will be a fringe NHLer.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________
August 28, 2021
He (Brook) was born a journeyman. A flaw for which there is known no cure or vaccine.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________

There is no question that injuries hampered Brook's development. But it was a development curve that never held much promise, at least to this observer.

He is raw however with having played what amounts to one OHL season over the past 3 seasons. He is somewhat of a project so I expect a season or two in Laval.
I've got no arguments there. Let him marinate a bit. We can wait, it's no rush IMO.

Mailloux has put up good numbers this year. With 25 goals in 60 games. Must play physical game over 80 penalty minutes. If he has good camp he may make team. Xhekaj made team this year. Mailloux has better numbers at 20.

Not the same role at all. I don t think it makes sense to bring Mailloux in the NHL, his main strength is the offense, Xhekaj is a more complete player to be fair. I would have Mailloux earn his minutes in the AHL before he steps in with the big club. Defense will be young already : Guhle Harris Barron Matheson Savard, hoping Edmunson gets traded, you need a few vets around those guys.
In the AHL he should very quickly be among the top offensive Dmen and develop there.
