That's the problem with Mailloux. He lost way too many games to develop properly. The kid gonna need another full OHL season + at least two more years at AHL to reach his potential.
That's fine by me. That would be standard for most prospect.

Will the kid be invited to the Habs training camp? just want to get a fresher perspective on him and hopefully the maligning can be put to an end.

Agreed. However it's a year to year approach. We will know more after he plays a full OHL season next year. Then after that, it might be 1 AHL year, 2, or 3.

Did they? Do you have a source?

I read somewhere the other day he is going to be at camp. Why wouldn't he? Why would the team continue to block his development and opportunity like any other prospect? He has been punished enough. A 2nd mistake could change that but he hasn't made any.

Do we really think that new management is going to diminish him cause they didn't draft him? I doubt that.

Hughes mentioned last week in the Weber trade call that Mailloux will be going to Habs development camp to get integrated with other Habs prospects.

Oh ok, I thought he was talking about rookie camp in september.

I think he should be at rookie camp in September. I was just asking if the team has said he will.

They didn't invite him to camp last year. And they didn't offer him a contract this summer. S OP no guarantees he gets an invite until the team says he will.

I honestly can't remember which one he said (development vs rookie camp) but I assumed now that the cat's out of the bag, Mailloux will be going to both camps as they want him to get to know other players in the organization.

Could be wrong, but wouldn't he need a contract to be at main camp?
No. Draft picks from the CHL can go to NHL camps without a contract. Joshua Roy was at our camp last year and didn't sign an ELC contract until a couple of months ago.

NCAA draft picks lose their eligibility if they attend a rookie camp or main camp. They can attend prospect development camp.

It's way to early to know one way or another. All we know is his skill set for those few OHL games.
Not that early to suggest he's not the prospect Subban was at draft -1 or +1 and will have to have an unbelievable season to reach Subban draft+2 or +3. I'm not even sure if he is at Beaulieu draft+1 level right now.

The media is going to harass him! Habs and his agent need to manage this and get a interview done so they can get all their dumb questions out now. Don't delay it cause they will follow him around like a black cloud.
I would wait until the Hockey Canada settlement is investigated, he has already paid for his crime, those guilty of a worse crime haven't.

Yeah idk, a LOT can happen in a few years. If Mailloux looks like an A-grade prospect, of course they'll keep him (or trade him for better assets than 2nd rounder).

But the reality is that he's played 31 hockey games in 2 seasons - 19 of them in the 3rd division league in Sweden. Not sure how it will affect his development.

And it's gonna be tough to evaluate, since he should be dominant next season in the OHL just based on his age - irrespective of talent or potential.
Players don't just "dominate" the OHL because of age. Sure it helps but it's not a given. There are lots of players in their pre OA year who don't dominate the league.
If he is dominant it is a great sign.

Definitely a unique situation having a 1st round pick start his D+2 season with only 12 CHL games under his belt. Those who are putting typical expectations on him for this season and his overall development curve are not being reasonable. Like with any prospect you look for strides towards professionalism and continuing progress on the ice. As long as he is demonstrating growth in these areas there is nothing else to do but wait for the results. All of the outside noise about expectations and past mistakes are irrelevant at this point.

His situation is unique, therefore his development curve is likely to be unique.

Playing games is necessary yes… but I don’t agree it’s all about games.

What has made the US development program so great over the last 20-years and second only to OHL, which they’re about to overtake if they haven’t already, is the focus on skill & practices.

USNTDP (including prep schools), and NCAA don’t play anywhere near the games they do in juniors, midget, or even Pee Wee in Canada, but they practice a helluva lot more with tremendous focus on skills.

I watch my kids practice 4, 5 times per week, it’s mind blowing the focus on skill.
I do hope that a NATIONAL hockey program would produce more top-end talent than a regional league.

Suffice to say that if Canada had such a national program, it would be monstrously good.

All we know is he is a great skater and has a very good shot. Way too little sample size to say anything definitive
