Is there an elite retired defenceman with an interest in coaching who might hone his defensive acumen? Our coaching staff seems to be forward-heavy. Maybe coax Nick Lidstrom out of retirement?
Yeah i'm also wondering who is going to be mentoring these kids in practice , they all seem quite gifted offensively , its on the other side of the puck that they need some tips and tricks.

Mailloux should get his 9 games if he's good in camp and its off to the AHL to learn how to defend

The D needs to take a huge leap. It’s not all awful on that side of things but it still needs a lot of work.

It’s exciting to get that absurd shot he has closer to the Habs.

There would’ve been a time not too long ago where we’d be hoping this kid would be a saviour of sorts. But the fact we got Guhle, Hutson, Reinbacher and Engstrom along with a couple others; there’s going to be a lot less pressure on him. We’ll have the luxury of playing him with a stud D who can cover for him. That’s even more exciting.

With Weber gone, it's the best way to get Gallagher to join him on Robidas Island. ;)

Absolutely. There will be a few options, actually, depending on where Mailloux can actually get his D-game before even considering someone else covering for him.

If Mailloux can sort things out to where it, at least, isn't a handicap, he should be playing top-4, probably alongside a stalwart shutdown D, like Guhle, who can also join in on the attack.

Otherwise, Mailloux can always be a 3rd pairing D alongside Xhekaj as a bruising pair and be unleashed on the PP,or when we need goal as an O-zone start.

Plenty of options where, whichever way Mailloux's D-game trends, we can still use him to his strengths at the NHL level.

I believe he is with Vancouver now, but Gonchar was a hell of an offensive D and seemed to be good with young D. Even Nathan Beaulieu managed to look good playing with him.

I'm not sure that is a given, but why not? Reinbacher won't be around. Petry is gone. Savard is past being a 2nd pairing D, never mind a 1st pairing D that he never was.

Matheson - Guhle
Xhekaj - Mailloux
Harris-Savard
Lindstrom

Wideman waived - Laval bound. Barron starts the year in the AHL until Mailloux is sent back down.

Xhekaj has top-4 upside remaining, IMO.

Well I keep hearing rumours that they are really high on him and he will play sooner than later....so I'm basing it off of that , I really don't think he's ready defensively to play big minutes personally , but he has the size and weight to suprise and handle the physicality possibly

With his lack of OHL games due to injury, it's a no-brainer to keep him in Laval for a long while.
Yeah but, kid has been raised in the spotlight, shouldn’t be long before he starts barking at the door!

Not that I don’t believe he needs seasoning, I just hope he stays hungry, and reveals his star powers!

Lol
We couldn't even convince Larry freaking Robinson to come back so good luck with Lidstrom :D (is he even involved with coaching at all anywhere? Also i know youre kidding lol)

Funny most "internet" scouts are not that high on him. Ramage and Boullion think he's our best prospect...
I don't remeber that. I do remember Frankie Bouillion claiming that of all our Dmen he was the closest NHL roster ready prospect.

His body is surely NHL ready and I hear he has a bit of an edge, physically. I also don't think he is ready for big minutes, defensively, but, on a 9-game tryout, to be safer, he could also see ice time alongside Xhekaj on a 3rd pairing for those games and have a chance to show what he can do on the PP as well?

Matheson - Guhle
Harris - Savard
Xhekaj - Mailloux

Kovacevic, Lindstrom

Barron starts in Laval...

A couple of things with this lineup. I don't like seeing Guhle playing the right side. Harris has done this in the past and seemed somewhat comfortable. We need Guhle to really settle in for the long haul and that's on the left side. Mailloux absolutely should not be in the NHL this season and maybe not even next year. He's so raw the extra seasoning will be extremely beneficial to his future. Barron had a nice end to the season last year and he should definitely be in the starting lineup when this season gets going. All IMO of course

He could beat out lindstrom that they just got
As most know here, I’m a huge supporter of Mailloux’s potential. Nevertheless, I still believe he’s at least a year away from being a contributing NHLer. If he can beat out Lindstrom this year, then the return we received for Petry is even more paltry than I suspected.

I didn't have high hopes for Lindstrom at all

Maybe I’m missing something but didn’t he only show the photos/video with his teammates?

If so did they snitch on him?
