The D needs to take a huge leap. It’s not all awful on that side of things but it still needs a lot of work.
It’s exciting to get that absurd shot he has closer to the Habs.
There would’ve been a time not too long ago where we’d be hoping this kid would be a saviour of sorts. But the fact we got Guhle, Hutson, Reinbacher and Engstrom along with a couple others; there’s going to be a lot less pressure on him. We’ll have the luxury of playing him with a stud D who can cover for him. That’s even more exciting.

With Weber gone, it's the best way to get Gallagher to join him on Robidas Island.

Absolutely. There will be a few options, actually, depending on where Mailloux can actually get his D-game before even considering someone else covering for him.
If Mailloux can sort things out to where it, at least, isn't a handicap, he should be playing top-4, probably alongside a stalwart shutdown D, like Guhle, who can also join in on the attack.
Otherwise, Mailloux can always be a 3rd pairing D alongside Xhekaj as a bruising pair and be unleashed on the PP,or when we need goal as an O-zone start.
Plenty of options where, whichever way Mailloux's D-game trends, we can still use him to his strengths at the NHL level.
