it could be though, as at least for now it means they can't rush him to the NHL. Not that I expected that to happen but they did rush Slaf imo so at this point with the PTSD I still have from MB rushing so many prospects to the NHL, I'd rather the Habs be forced not to be able to rush a player.

A year in Laval would be good for him.

If he's eligible for the AHL, he'll likely be eligible for the NHL. The two leagues have always honoured each other's suspensions given their relationship.

Who says he's not eligible for the AHL? He's not suspended by the NHL.
If I understood your previous post correctly, I believe you were suggesting that not being permitted to play in the NHL would force the Habs to keep him in Laval. An NHL suspension would likely have to be honoured by the AHL.

He can not be permitted to play in the NHL without being suspended, or so I assume since he's not been suspended by the NHL or anyone for that matter. I haven't heard anything that says he can't play in the AHL, just that the NHL has not cleared him to play in the NHL.

So I assume at this point that yes he can play in Laval but not the NHL until they say he can. So my point is if the NHL drags their feet cause they don't want the PR with all the Team Canada WJC stuff that will likely hit soon. So if they force the Habs to leave Mailloux in Laval all year that would be a good thing imo as I can't see them keeping him out of the NHL forever.

You should have no worries in this regard. The proverbial green light is only a formality now.
I don't like to worry either but one has to wonder how short of a leash Mailloux will have if/when he is cleared to play. Especially with his rough style.

that'll be very annoying to deal with if Bettman holds a grudge

This is kind of getting ridiculous he did something bad but paid for it to the full extent of the law than still got suspended in the OHL (still don’t know how they came up with that) and NHL trying to make a exemple out of him meanwhile you have a bunch of guys that are currently playing because hockey Canada or jr team covered up much worse crime…

Though some people think/ assume because of his size, Mailloux plays a rough game, that is not an accurate depiction of what Mailloux’s game is all about. As I have previously posted, Mailloux’s game is far more about finesse than brawn. He still loses his composure at times but as the last season progressed Mailloux became a far more disciplined player. Those who are expecting Mailloux to be a dominating physical presence in our defensive zone will be disappointed.

It's just a performative thing for the league here.. Mailloux will be cleared. The NHL is just going to drag it out as long as they can and make it look like they did due diligence but really didn't do anything.

Don't expect anything more than a performative suspension for the Team Canada rapists, either. Enough to say they suspended them and they paid but not enough to harm their product.

The NHL like any corporate enterprise only cares about their image, once there's no real impact to their bottom line, they'll move on as uncaring as before.

The opinions of Mailloux seem to be quite polarized. Do you think he's an nhl player? Does he end up with a Beaulieu type of career or is there a very good chance he ends up an offensive top 4 dman?

I'm finding it hard to parse through all the opinions about him.

Mailloux caught some Mitchell Miller shrapnel because this so called required meeting never came up until the Bruins signed the other problematic guy.

He's not for me until he shows he can defend adequately at the pro level. His offensive game and tools are obviously going to play in the NHL but the rest of it still is a massive work in progress.

If only there was a way to send him back to the OHL to play defense and play in the AHL to continue to develop his offense because that's the level both are at right now.

Thanks so much for this. I'm guessing is nhl level offensive tools will be enough to have hang around on a club in a significant role, or will it be an Erik Gustafsson situation where despite being very good offensively, he can't stick with a club?

At the time, it was mentioned that Mailloux is also ineligible for the NHL at the time.

There was a meeting that was supposed to take place shortly after the cup was awarded.

I looked it up and the wording was Miller wasn't allowed to join the team, seemingly in any capacity while Mailloux has been at the camps.

I think the NHL approves it, they're just the worst at getting anything done in a timely manner.

The 2018 team canada sexual assault case was finished about a month ago and still nothing from anyone.

If you were smart you'd release the findings in the summer and give it time to die down before training camp starts, but the NHL is run by a bunch of hurr durr people.

Is it possible that he has already been cleared and they have decided to keep it on the downlow?

That would be smart. Instead of having a press conference, or something just have him there and at training camp just have Hughes say he was cleared to play and go on.

If they do that I'd have to slightly retract my statement as they're still slow to respond to things.

It doesn't mean anything at all as there is no reason for Bettman to do anything until he has to. Ultimately it is just a formality at this point anyways and should be of little interest to most.

There is a possibility that Mailloux never plays an NHL game albeit a slight one and Bettman is not going to put himself or the league back in the news until he absolutely has to. Until the time comes that Mailloux is about to be given the opportunity to play in the NHL there is no reason for Bettman to do anything.

Guhle is a beast defensively, he's going to mask some of Mailloux's issues. Kinda like how anyone that played with Weber looked decent defensively.
