It's ridiculous !! The whole thing was blown way out of proportion!!
The fact that he admitted he made a mistake, plead guilty, paid the fine and apologized is good enough for me. He could have easily hid under the young offenders umbrella. I respect him for openly admitting he needed to work on himself as a better person. I have met his father and mother ( Jeff his dad is a retired police officer ) and they are super people. He has paid his dues plain and simple. Time to move forward. Talked to some London Knights teammates and they gave him very high compliments as both player, teammate and person. They know him better than anyone outside his family. Both Mark and Dale Hunter have praised his development both as a player and citizen.

He had an awesome year in London. I know he is heading to AHL but I think he would be better off in OHL another year to work on his defense and play a ton of minutes and games. He has only played a 100 games in Junior because of Covid , shoulder injury and his suspension .
Can the argument be made he should move to the AHL in order to not be over-reliant on his physical attributes?

I've read he tens to defend by simply physically imposing himself on other forwards in the O. In the AHL he'd face bigger (and of course, better) players which may force him to improve how he defends those types of players.

ECHL might also be an option to get good reps. I think he is Laval bound though.

Too bad we couldn't get Bonk too..

I don't think it's a big deal, wasn't too high on him but I would really be interested in Sam Dickinson for next summers draft. That's why I didn't want us to pick a blueliner this year since we could be in the mix for a high end one next year.

yes he can do that, physically overpower players in junior, To me the problem is more just not really knowing what to do to put himself in better position to defend but I would say he's made big time strides in his defensive game.

That video tells us why Chester has been so high on LM. Wow..........scored some real nice goals.
Yes, I’m high on Mailloux as he is an intriguing player who possesses size, great shot, offensive vision and excellent straight forward speed. He easily has the best first pass that I have seen in a young player since Subban. But, in my opinion, this kid is not ready for the NHL and will probably struggle the first couple of months in Laval. He's only had one year of play in the OHL and his lack of playing time due to suspension was reflected in his lack of both conditioning and in-game awareness. Mailloux also has to get stronger on the ice so he can contain forwards in the defensive zone. If Mailloux takes the next step in his development, he will be a force on our blueline for the next decade.

While I was watching Mailloux, I had the opportunity to watch the young Dickinson play on many occasions. This kid has all the tools to be an elite NHL defenceman. He has size, great mobility, shoots the puck as well as Mailloux and plays with a physical edge that Mailloux doesn’t have. The only thing he lacks what Mailloux possesses, is offensive vision. But Mailloux is two years older than Dickinson.

I would suspect that Montreal’s scouts had a chance to assess Dickinson while they were monitoring Mailloux’s progress. If they failed to see what this writer has seen about Dickinson, we need new scouts. I don’t care who we drafted in 2023, if we get a chance to draft this kid next year, and we don't, it would be an error. Some sites predict Dickinson will go 20th or later in the first round. There is no way that he goes past 10th. I suspect Dickinson will go much higher.

If you're a fan of Mailloux I'm rather certain you shall also be a fan of Reinbacher.

A Reinbacher Mailloux pair would be fun to watch

Too bad they're both righthanded.
It shouldn't really matter but that's how they do things it seems. I haven't seen enough from either but Reinbacher seems to play a safer game.

From what I have seen, I will be. But if I was drafting, I would have taken Leonard or Moore. You pass on that type of speed at your team’s peril.
I really don't follow drafting to the degree that many do and it goes without saying that many have differing thoughts on that subject. Following the team intermittently I can see many questionable decisions made but the building is not yet complete,

Yeah, we just have to unleash his talent later
No rush,they are both young.
I'd give you a thumbs up or something but those options seem unavailable still. lol

Same. Dickinson is amazing. So much poise and played like a veteran despite his age.

Having seen all his LK games at home n on the road ( TV or live as a season tic holder) I'd say yes, time move up a level. JMO but in 24 yrs a tic holder we have seen some excellent players move thru here in London. And he should. I'm not a selfish tic holder wanting kids held back for my entertainment. He needs that challenge in spite of the low reps due to covid n suspension. Move up, move on let's see what he's got when challenged.

I think this is a good point.. I'm still not entirely sure what to think of him, there's a lot to be excited about and I think he's progressing enough that he will make the league on his offense alone, but he missed a lot of development time and he still essentially needs to learn how to play defense. Being able to bully kids isn't going to work in the pros so it might be a good reality check for him.

I don't think it's fair to say that Mailloux was over-reliant on his physical strengths at all, especially this year.

Someone (LK coaching staff, habs development people) clearly seem to have advised him to tone down the physical play and concentrate on positioning. This year he played a much more cerebral game than previously. I'm sure the feeling was that he was getting out of position too much trying to make big hits earlier on. He deserves credit for working hard on his defence all season long. His defensive IQ is still fairly low and we're just going to have to live with that. But his shot is one of the few that have gotten me to jump out of my seat in live viewings in the OHL over the years, Really something special.

Bonk, I think, has much more offensive upside than people give him credit for. He was stuck on the depth chart all year long behind Mailloux. The pairing of Dickinson & Bonk on PP1 should be a treat to watch, and I think Bonk is primed to move up on a lot of people's prospect lists. Personally, I won't be surprised if the gap between Reinbacher and Bonk in the pros ends up being very small.

I think Mailloux was plenty physical this year at times. He's so big and strong compared to many in the OHL that he did have a big physical advantage over many, to which he used as he should.

I didn't notice Bonk all that much but I really like Dickinson. If Bonk ends up closer to Reinbacher I think it will be more to do with Reinbacher disappointing as I can't say I have been overly impressed with him.
