What exactly did the owners win in this lockout?

Sure, the players drop to 50/50, but the owners spend more into revenue sharing.

Are the owners any better off? Isn't that the common sense compromise that should have happened day one of the lockout?

If the players agreed to the owners offer at the end of October (the one that still had a 82 game season), wouldn't they have made MORE money in the long run? (because they wouldn't have missed half their paycheck this year)

I don't understand this from either side.

Did you not pay attention to the last 4 months?

I can just imagine a bunch of astronauts sitting around thinking "I hope I don't get selected for this mission! The next mission looks so much better!"

Poor guy is stuck up there with some Russians and Americans; not a good time after that brutal WJHC. ha

Seriously?

The poor teams who are struggling financially receive more $$ from the HRR, AND they receive more $$ from revenue sharing, AND they have to pay their players less. They may even be able to ice competitive teams during this CBA and grow their tentative fanbase.

@FriedgeHNIC is reporting, the NHL has sent a memo to clubs indicating there will be no training camps before Saturday, and a 48-game season will begin Jan. 19.

I'm confused why people wouldn't go back. If you aren't, that's fine. My thought process though is that what occurred between the NHL and PA was business. The fans, albeit upset that we didn't get to watch and enjoy hockey, had little to do with it. I, as a fan of hockey, enjoy watching NHL games and some of the most talented players in the world on a regular basis. Now that hockey's back, why would I restrict myself from enjoying something I like?

Exactly!

The NHL doesn't owe us anything. Yeah, I'm mad, but it's not like my education, where if teachers strike, I'm losing valuable time.

The NHL is something I enjoy on my own time. I don't expect anything, and I don't understand how some people are taking it so personally. No one begged you to be an NHL fan. I don't get it.

Would there have been the changes to the pension plan then? I think in the long run, Fehr did well by the PA. I doubt all the modifications and concessions that he negotiated could have been achieved back when the league still thought it could pressure the union into a deal.

I just don't understand why 4 months of hockey was lost. I mean... it seems the "big issues" were 50/50 and increased revenue sharing.
Why did it take 4 months to come to that agreement?
Isn't it just common sense? Like... the 1st offer from both sides common sense?
Why lose 4 months to come to something so obvious?

The contracting issues are small potatoes compare to the big issues.

Losing an entire season over a battle for a salary cap... that I understand. I see why players would be against it. I see why owners would demand it.

But this lockout?

The only thing that made sense to me was that maybe Fehr was going to fight long term against the cap. I would disagree with him... but I can at least understand the concept of that battle.

But there was no big issue here.
They lost 4 months of hockey to come to the common sense agreement that everyone knew they would eventually come to.

wow... that turned into a really long and repetitive rant.
Apologies. I've been drinking.
